Stephen Woollard is passionate about engaging people with the natural world and has 35 years experience in conservation and environmental education. He was inspired by Gerald Durrell and began working as a zoo educator in 1987. Stephen has worked at Twycross Zoo (1987-1988 & 2015-16), Bristol Zoo (1989-2003), Dudley Zoo (2003-2005) and RZSS Edinburgh Zoo & Highland Wildlife Park (2005-2015).

The 3 module online Environmental Educator course that I wrote last year for Learndirect is on sale (25% off) at the moment (I don't get commission, but it would be good to see it used). It was written with the aim that those involved in wildlife, nature, zoos, countryside, environmental education engagement could develop understanding and skills in this area and a L3 qualification in this field. It has been great to "attend" the 2023 EAZA Education conference hosted at Wroclaw Zoo, Poland via online link, real shame i couldnt be there with everyone. (Picture from my desk with the delegates in their group photo on screen 🤣😊)
Some really interesting talks and topics of discussion. I continue to learn more even after 36 years in zoo education.
Earlier this month I was also delighted to be a speaker at the ABWAK Symposium hosted at Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

This week I've been a guest lecturer at
Durrell Conservation Academy (November 2022) - Diploma in Endangered Species Management (DESMAN) - Conservation Education module - lots of FUN with discussion, games, acting, activities and lecture.

Participants from Seychelles, Costa Rica, Brazil, St Lucia, Montserrat, Colombia, Indonesia, Tanzania, South Africa, Philippines, & Papua New Guinea.

Its the longest day... so World Giraffe Day 🦒
2 of the giraffe at the fantastic huge Sharjah Safari, UAE, where I had the privilege of supporting the development of education & staff training.
The park is now closed for the hot summer 🌞, reopens in a couple of months time.
