For all those who cannot do weekends or need Group exposure and a different ground I have put on midweek sessions and will tailor these over the coming weeks, I value your feedback and encourage you to let me know what you like or dont like or what you would like to see in the future!

Format two dogs running together, a shot and a seen retrieve, a blind at a stake. The retrieves will be on par with the ability of the dog, and if an open standard dog is used, the retrieve will be more testing. Retrievers walking in line. Will include water retrieves.
Pistol, blanks, and dummy launcher will be used.
Please message if you would like to have a place, first come first served. I will limit the mornings to 10 handlers.
2nd dogs welcome. Stop for a coffee and a chat.

Sunday 13th July
AV Spaniel Working Test Workshop.
0900-1300hrs Maximum 6 handlers (2nd dog welcome) £50.00
Suitable for young & Novice dogs, Open dogs welcome, wanting to practise in a group setting. Ideally heard & steady to shot, but not essential. We will cover the running of a Working Test for newcomers, what to expect and answer any questions.
We will then run a Working Test format, two handlers running together, with a seen and blind retrieve over gunshot, plus more difficult retrieves for Open standard dogs (starter pistol will be used)
Grass, bramble, legume cover mix, cover crop, ditches, jumps, and banks.
Full payment required at time of booking.
Tea, coffee, water, biscuits, and cake included, stop for a break and swap dogs.
N.B Happy to accommodate a group of friends, club, society etc & tailor to your needs.

12 weeks to 6 months, includes socialisation and basics, eye contact, sit, stay, introduction to whistle commands, recall to name & whistle, lead work – the heel position, introduction to retrieving – tennis balls & dummies for fun, hunting – getting their nose on the ground. Using place boards.

AV Spaniel Novice Group.
1000-1200hrs Maximum 6 handlers. £30.00
Moving on from Beginner – Sit, stay, heel work on lead, recall, delivery, marked retrieve, direction handling, stop whistle, wind direction, scent. Introduction to gunshot.

Grass, bramble, legume cover mix, cover crop, ditches, jumps, and banks.
£50.00 per handler. Full payment required at time of booking.

🔥NEWSFLASH🔥

As of tomorrow, Tuesday 1st July 2025, I will take on the lease of our new training ground.

Initially over the first month I will be setting up the ground, secure fencing, gates, then jumps, jumping pens, seeding areas & finally the rabbit and bird pen, pigeons to follow.

I will be starting group lessons from Sunday 13th July. I'll try and put a summer group on a Wednesday evening starting 9th July.

Starting week commencing 7th July I'm also looking at doing a spaniel group on a Tuesday morning for 3 hours, a mixed group on a Wednesday walking in line scenarios, 3 hours, & a retriever group on a Thursday morning for 3 hours.

For those that may have missed it, we now have access to water and there is a dog friendly coffee shop in the car park!

Roger went home at the weekend after a months stay with us.
Heel work on a lead, line running, water work and getting him hunting.

You will be delighted to know that we have secured a new, permanent training ground that is larger than the previous one. It has so much more to offer and includes some new items.
We are hoping to be live some time in July.

Fully gravelled off road parking, secure, peaceful & private ground, a large lake with a puppy easy entry point, for the retrievers a river which can be used for far side retrieves etc, numerous jumps, jumping pens, field to field obstacles, such as ditches, banks and jumps, game cover crop, legume seed mix for hunting, retrieving lanes, grassed puppy/obedience field. Remote launchers, toilet, the best bit.............a coffee shop within the grounds, that also offers a breakfast and lunchtime menu, is open seven days a week and is dog friendly with seating in or out!!!

FOR HIRE: The ground once fully operational will be available 7 days a week. In two blocks or all day booking for individuals, private groups, other trainers, Clubs & Societies.

PM 1200-1500hrs

Prices £30.00 = 1 handler. Plus £15.00 any extra handler, private groups of no more than 6 handlers, number of dogs unlimited) Pistols and launchers permitted.

Interesting morning taking the KC J Regs exam (for spaniels, obviously!). Highest mark I've ever had in a test, 38/40! 😂
Would of been 39 if I hadn't changed my answer after checking through the paper. TBH it would have been 40 if I hadn't got one wrong! 😉🤦‍♂️

Gary Smith did a great job in delivering the seminar, thank you to East Midlands Gundog Club, inparticular Bill Parkinson for putting on the day.

After a 2 month stay a residential dog returned home with another satisfied client!

The beauty of such occasions is that it is usually followed by a gift of some description, after the last 24 hours I needed to sample it, & the lovely glasses it came with, thank you!!

Thank you all for your heartfelt messages, comments, DM's, WhatsApp's and phone calls today. Myself, Jo, Xavier and Summer really appreciate it.

I was going to like or heart every message, but due to the amount I'll be here a while!

❤️RIP Racomitrium Violet 15/03/24 - 04/06/25 ❤️

Tonight we lost our beautiful Violet. She came home from a run and deteriorated very quickly to the point she was having trouble breathing. Emergency vets and tests showed collapsed lungs and displaced heart because fluid had filled the cavity. She was too poorly to transfer to a specialist vet and possibly wouldn't have made the night. We had to make the decision to let her pass away in the my arms, I was there when you were born, only right I was there at the end. No idea what caused it, no puncture wound, no broken bones.

She had been the easiest dog I've had to train, at such a young age she was fearless, bramble, bracken, swimming, always had her nose down and into everything, hubt a car park she would, without a tennis ball to be seen, but as important to me had the sweetest of temperament and an off switch.
I tell people I hadn't really started with her and was still just playing, not training her, she was that good. Only three weeks ago she was on the rabbits and shot over for the first time, my dog of a lifetime that was never meant to be.

She reminds me so much of my first springer Moss, from who the name Racomitrium came from, he too was a cracking dog, taken far too soon.

I owe my dogs so much, as well as my family. They have saved me over the past five years, struggling with CPTSD. Many days they have been my reason for getting up and taking them out. Without which, who knows. Their loyalty is infinite, of which I'm truly grateful. They are the reason I have turned my hobby and passion into a thriving business, which is growing, with bigger & better things planned for later this year and over the next 18 months.

Thank you Vi Vi, you will certainly leave a large void in our hearts as well as our kennels ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Lovely day today at The Spaniel Club AV Spaniel Working Test. Ran both Posy & River, unfortunately not in the awards. It's really nice doing something with my own dogs for a change.

Posy ran in on her second run, but how she was only 4 months ago I'll take that, River looked at me on the gunshot & didn't mark the seen, I didn't push her back far enough so the wrong side of the wind. But she can do no wrong for me, love her! Onto the next one, after some more practise! 🤪😂

Well done to Jackie for a well run day, the judges for giving up their time & all the helpers, without which these events can not run. Also, a big thank you to the landowner & sponsors for the generous prizes. Congratulations to the winners & all in the awards 🏆👏👍

I had the pleasure of meeting Tom Cantwell today, two very different trainers, one has a face for radio, the other not so much!.........I'll let you decide which is which!
