Peterborough Cat Rescue

Peterborough Cat Rescue As a registered charity, we are dedicated to rescuing cats and promoting neutering. Charity Registration Number: 1153044.

We regret we do not have the capacity to respond individiidually to all applications. This is a 100% volunteer run charity, with passionate volunteers with commitments. Peterborough Cat Rescue helps to re-home stray and unwanted cats. We are a self financing group of people who love cats and are concerned about cat welfare. We believe that all cats should be neutered to prevent the widespread numb

er of unwanted animals that find themselves in rescue centres. You can now donate to Peterborough Cat Rescue via our donate button at the top of our page next to the message button, or click on the link below which will take you straight to our PayPal account. Thank you in advance for your kind generosity x

Just a polite reminder, just because you have a stray in your garden, owner going into hospital and you ring in to ask us to take the cat please understand there is always a waiting list and we can only take in when we have a space possibly created by a cat being homed or other not so nice reason, we cant magic up the space as much as we would love to as we are here to help cats but the volumes are not manageable at the moment and it does not help as pregnant stray cats are surfacing and they will take priority so unless people get their cats neutered to stop the amounts we are forever going to be in a no win situation our drop in the ocean 935 cats homed last year makes no difference but has a huge impact on the amount of cats we can take in so please understand there is no answer to our predicament as much as we would like there to be.

Flea'd & Wormed: Yes
Children: older 12 plus
Cats: with careful introduction
Dogs: not known

Nature : Pebbles needs a very special type of home. A quieter home where she will be allowed to settle in her own time. As you can see from the photos she is a very sweet girl. She was however very shy when she came to us and I’m sure until settled she will temporarily return to that . On her vet exam she was shown to have a heart murmur. This is a grade 1 [the lowest type ,only detected with a stethoscope and does not show in any other way]. She could well grow out of this as she gets very stressed in the vets and I am sure this would not have helped during her examination.

PLEASE NOTE:
Unfortunately we are unable to reserve cats to allow for any upcoming holidays etc.

Please only apply if you are in a position to adopt and take the cat home ASAP after viewing. We are unable to hold a cat once viewed/reserved.

Please ensure EVERYONE in the household is in agreement with adopting a cat prior to submitting an application form.

A moan..... we are always under pressure and put ourselves out daily , trying to get cats through the vets for ops is a nightmare at times so if you ring and ask us to take your cats because you don't want them anymore and yes it may be short notice but trying to align everything up sometimes it happens so please don't refuse the space and have the audacity to tell us to come back later tomorrow followed by putting the phone down.
Why is it everyone has to have a moan about something, a poster looks like a scam, someone has done that out of the goodness of their heart, we cant turn out just when you think we should, I can tell you the cat population in Peterborough would be in a sorry state if we were not turning out or should I say volunteering, there would be many more cats on the streets so if you are an avid cat lover think on it if Peterborough cat rescue was not here, you can have your views but please think of the people who who are out day and night who get upset with all your negative comments and if you feel so strongly that people can't get a chip put in because of cost or vets are expensive for neutering, you don't have to tell us we have to find thousands every month because of not neutering, what happened to saving up a bit a month and we will still bang on about it all believe me !

Just a reminder that on the 14th, all homing posts will be moving to our new homing page. This page remains for news, updates and fundraising, but for all cats and kittens up for adoption, please make sure you are following the new page- Peterborough Cat Rescue - Homing Page

11/02/2025

Please note as very few people seem to know that it is now law since June 24 that all cat have to be chipped, chipping cats certainly isn't working, but with no one policing this we don't stand a chance of it happening.

11/02/2025

Just a few words if you need our help, please give your name and address if asked for it, not a post code pe1 is a large area, remember that all rescues are full so.if offered to go on the waiting list jump at it as most large rescues will just say they can't help, at least being on a waiting list you are in the picture for the rescue to work on. If you ring in wanting a space and we say we can help please snap our hands off don't then say can we do it in 2 weeks, you are risking us having no space in 2 weeks and then what happens to the cats.
After the stress of last year due to the amount of cats we had phoned in we are trying to prepare ourselves for the onslaught of 2025 and would appreciate your help and get your cats neutered, thanks

Sweet girl Calli is looking for her own forever home, somewhere that is experienced with cats that have character. Calli loves life and it shows (lots of zoomies) She is very playful and loves to run around climb on top of doors and wait for you to walk past, She is very fussy but can give a love nip if over excited. Which can be quite often 🥰. Calli has been known to sit quietly on your lap for a while (recharging her Batteries) before she’s off again.

I thought long and hard before I shared this but this is exactly what I said at a meeting on Saturday, people are so offended when asked the question !

BEFORE YOU GET OFFENDED when someone suggests you neuter your cat please read this.

1. When a cat becomes pregnant, it is not through choice. There is no romantic liason.... it literally is the equivalent of sexual assault.
The male cats p***s is barbed and causes excruciating pain for the female.

2. Every rescue is dependant on volunteers. Volunteers who lose family time, money, sleep, weekends and evenings caring for and fundraising to ensure unwanted cats get the correct care.

3.Animals have no voice.. So when somebody speaks on their behalf stop getting upset.

4.Uneutered Male cats will wander in search of females. They will fight ferociously and cause terrible injury to other males in the process causing sepsis. And dreadful life threatening diseases.

5. Every litter of kittens born in your home and sold adds to the problem by stopping a rescue cat being adopted.

6. Rescues are full to capacity with cats which have been bought on a whim of Facebook and surrendered or abandoned due to boredom or Inability to afford vet bills, Neuter, Vaccs, Food, Flea and worm treatment

7. Each rescue has a waiting list. They spend literally thousands of pounds a year on vet treatment. Food, litter. Flea and worm treatment, Electricity, Petrol. These are just the basics.

8. Behind the scenes volunteers nurse, clean out several times a day. Fundraise constantly. Worry about cats who have been surrendered and are traumatised by being torn from its surroundings and carry the guilt of the decisions they have to make.

9. Rescues have volunteers who drive for miles . Trapping stray cats, picking up unwanted cats and spend hours on the phone trying to find spaces and homes for unwanted pets.

10. Volunteers spend their free time and energy picking up the pieces from people who allow cats to have kittens and refuse to neuter.

Please don’t be offended when someone asks are you getting your cat neutered - rescues see the consequences of these actions every day 365 days a year and are simply giving a voice to the vulnerable creatures so casually given away or sold for gain.

**Experienced owner needed to help lovely Grace to settle in.. She's well worth the patience**

Name: Grace
S*x: Female
Age: 17 mths
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Fully
Microchipped: Yes
Flea and wormed: Yes
Children: No
Other cats: One friendly cat, with careful introduction
Dogs: A quiet, calm cat-savvy, friendly dog with careful introduction
Safe Outdoor access: once settled after minimum of 4 weeks

Adoption fee: £90

Grace is a bit of a rarity being a ginger girl and is an affectionate loving lady who is not very confident at first, being easily startled. It will take time and patience from an experienced owner but in my opinion they will be rewarded hugely by a chatty, loyal and very beautiful friend. Grace loves to play and interact and wants a home to call her own so she can finally relax and show all her best qualities. She is interested in her fosterers dog and other cats but tends to run and hide when (the rather loud) dog barks!!
Grace is a little boss-eyed which we feel only adds to her charm.
