💊 | Cat Vaccine Shortage
There is currently a national shortage of some cat vaccines.
Please call to book your cat vaccination appointment.
We will update further as we are able to and will work to ensure all cats get the protection they need.
- Cats having year 2/3 boosters are unaffected and can proceed as normal (as these do not require the FeLV component).
- Cats that require a full booster vaccine to include FeLV may ned to be postponed. We have been informed that FeLV should be back in stock by the new year.
We are not wanting any cats to not have their boosters but are needing to delay slightly.
- We may have to reschedule appointments based on stock levels.
If you are unsure of which vaccine your cat is due please contact us and we can check for you and advise from there 🐱

⚠️ IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL OUR CLIENTS - PLEASE TAKE TIME TO READ ⚠️
The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) is the governing body for all veterinary practices and practitioners. They are responsible for creating guidelines and rules that all veterinary practices must adhere to.
Taking effect immediately, the RCVS have published new prescribing regulations for prescription medications.
These new regulations state that a physical examination of every pet must take place before any antibiotic, anti-fungal, antiviral or anti parasitic treatment can be prescribed.
❓What does this mean for our clients? ❓
🟥 Any pet suspected to have an eye or ear infection must be seen each time, prior to dispensing medication (even pets that have ongoing issues).
🟧 Pets with chronic skin conditions must be seen if it suspected that antibiotics are required at any time.
🟨 Pets with suspected Urinary Tract infections must be seen prior to treatment. It is no longer possible to prescribe antibiotics based on the results of a urine sample handed into the practice for testing without subsequent examination of the pet.
🟩 Pets with Gastrointestinal upsets that may require antibiotic treatment must now be examined prior to dispensing medications. Results of faecal analysis is no longer sufficient.
🟦 Any patient prescribed anti parasitic treatments must be examined by a veterinary surgeon prior to the treatment being dispensed. Once seen a prescription for treatment, if product and dosage remains the same, will be valid for up to 12 months, or as stated by the veterinary surgeon.
🟪 Our policy for Repeat prescriptions for all other long term medications, not falling into the above categories, will remain the same as before, with pets requiring a six monthly medication check up or more regularly if advised by a veterinary surgeon.

Ever wondered why some cats have a loose pouch of skin under their tummy that moves around when they walk? 🤔
Well, this is known as the 'primordial pouch' and is thought to serve a couple functions:
🐱 To protect their organs during fighting. When cats fight, they really go for it! They will often try to rake their opponents abdomen with their sharp back claws, so the primordial pouch protects this area from serious damage.
🐱Because the primordial pouch is made up from excess skin, it helps cats to stretch out when they are running, jumping or climbing. This is important for both hunting and defence.
🐱The primordial pouch starts to develop when a cat is around six months of age. It has nothing to do with neutering and is a completely normal part of the feline anatomy. Both entire and neutered cats may have a primordial pouch.
🐱Some big cats, such as tigers and cheetahs also have primordial pouches
🐱Sizes in primordial pouches vary - it doesn't mean your cat is overweight if it has a obvious primordial pouch, but it can do. If your cat is overweight you should speak to your veterinary team for advice.

Nationally there has been an increase in cats falling ill with a rare condition called pancytopenia. The issue has been identified by The Royal Veterinary College London and they are currently leading investigations in to the rise in cases.
A product recall has been issued as a precautionary measure by the manufacturer of some dry cat food ranges, whilst further investigations are carried out. Full details of the recalled diets can be found here: https://www.food.gov.uk/news-alerts/alert/fsa-prin-36-2021
If you feed one of these diets it is advised you to stop feeding it immediately, and to contact the shop that you purchased it from.
Pancytopenia is a reduction in the levels of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. Clinical signs include lethargy, a high temperature, pale gums, blood in the urine or faeces (faeces will usually be dark or black). Small areas of bruising to the skin or gums may also be seen. If you notice any of these signs please contact your vet immediately.
