Did you know that dogs can suffer from seasonal allergies, in a similar way to us?

We wanted to highlight some common signs of allergy to look out for, and share some advice on what you can do to help keep your dog happy and comfortable.

•Itchy skin - spring often means an increase in pollen and grass which may lead to scratching, biting and licking, this could lead to hot patches, skin infections and hair loss.

• Sneezing and coughing - this can be a result of pollen, dust, or other airborne allergens.

• Runny nose and eyes - this can result in discharge from the eyes and nose, making your dog uncomfortable.

• Ear infections - dogs with spring allergies may be prone to ear infections.

There are some things you can do at home to help your dog, such as regular hoovering, mopping and washing their bedding. Keeping your dog indoors during high pollen times, and wiping their face and paws after walks. Regular grooming with a hypoallergenic shampoo can also help soothe irritated skin and remove allergens from their coat.

If you have any concerns or think your dog may be suffering from allergies, speak to us and we can advise how to help keep them comfortable.

Don’t forget for all repeat prescriptions, our turn around is 72 hours, due to high demand. This includes flea and worming.

Please can we ask all orders for repeat prescriptions and food are ordered in time.

We are doing our best every day to meet our turn around time but… PLEASE PLEASE do not leave it until last minute or until you have run out to order your pets repeat medications.

With the next 3 days predicted to be warmer and an amber weather warning issued for us humans, please remember your pets will be affected as well.

🐕 Walk your dogs in the coolest parts of the day or not at all. It really will not hurt them to miss a walk. Be careful in the garden also. They can overheat themselves whilst sunbathing or playing. Limit their time outside in the hottest part of the day.
❌❌ DO NOT LEAVE THEM IN A CAR ❌❌

🐈 Cats can also over heat, provide them with a cool place to relax in the house. Not in the windows until the sun has moved off that window.

🐇 🐹 small furries such as rabbits and guine pigs also need cool places out of the sun. You may need to move their hutch or build shelter to protect them.

Lastly, Make sure everyone has access to fresh water 💦 and enjoy the nice weather safely with your pets 🥰🐕🐇🐹☀️

Saturday Appointments

We have been asked a lot recently about appointment availability on a Saturday.

We do not open at Whittlesey on a Saturday however, our Bretton branch do run a Saturday clinic 8:30-2pm for issues that need to be treated that day and emergencies. Routine appointments still need to be made at Whittlesey, Monday- Friday.

If you need to order repeat medications these can be ordered Monday- Friday with the Whittlesey branch. Please do not call Bretton for these, they will ask you to call your normal surgery on Monday.

Our opening hours are 8:30-7pm Monday to Friday. If you need to be seen outside these hours, you will be directed to our out of hours provider, Vets Now.
