SANTAS COMING!!!
As I finish up for the holidays, I’d like wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

Whatever you’re doing this year, I hope you get to make some amazing memories with those you love most 🥰🐾

I’m back to work Jan 6th, and already looking forward to seeing you and your amazing pooches ❤️

Reviews and word of mouth are invaluable for small businesses like mine to help attract new customers.

I wanted a way to thank everyone that took the time to write a review on either fb or Google this year. I’ve done a little draw - with a chance to win a follow on session in January.
If you wrote a review on both you’ve been entered twice 🥰

Congratulations to the winner - give me a message when you’re ready and we’ll get your session arranged

Thank you for everyone’s patience on training plans and replies. I am starting to feel more human after spending the last few days either snoozing on the sofa or in bed. Everyone that was waiting on a reply should’ve received one.

Although I’ve been feeling like the grim reaper will be paying me a visit (not that I’m dramatic at all 😂) I feel like for my pooches it’s been the best few days ever.
I’m not one for just sitting at peace, so it’s a novelty for the pooches. The fact they’ve spent the last few days flanking me wherever I’ve dozed isn’t lost on me - I might have to factor in proper lazy days more frequently 🥰

With only 7 sleeps to go until Santa arrives it’s a good time to remember;

Some dogs will thrive at Christmas and love the hustle and bustle.

Others will find this period stressful - particularly if they’re exposed to additional stimuli they’re not used too. Try not to force them into any interactions.

Dogs are opportunists!

🐾 Even if you don’t deliberately give them scraps from your plates - they will clock the messy eaters and will stick near them!

🐾 Not everyone will follow your rules of no feeding the dog - this could lead to them getting an abundance of food.

🐾 A dog will move as quick as lightning to get something they’re not allowed.

🐾 Even if you have a solid leave it or drop it cue, Christmastime is the mother of all distractions so it may not be as effective as you are use too.

If you feel your dog has ingested something they shouldn’t, please get in touch with your vet ASAP.

One of the questions I ask my clients is do you enjoy spending time with your dog?

Lets pop the training element to one side for a moment. Simply playing games and having fun with our dogs is beneficial for both ends of the lead;

🐾 It helps to build, or sometimes repair a bond

🐾 With an improved bond comes an improved focus on you from your dog

🐾 You learn to ‘read’ your dog better

🐾 Both ends of the lead get a dopamine hit, meaning everyone is feeling more relaxed

🐾 If we’re having fun we want to do more with each other.

What’s your dogs favourite game to play?

👇🏻 What’s went well this week with you and your dog - no matter how big or small??

Mine is that Gamora has actually been pretty cuddly this week (she is not an affectionate dog)
She generally likes to be next to me but doesn’t want to be touched, this week she’s been resting her head on my legs - so I’ve been controlling my urge to pet her 🙈 and have just been glad for the extra heat

For today’s I’m celebrating these 2 beauts graduating from their 1:1 program 🥰

In true Chi style they’re little dogs with BIG personalities. Just to make things that little more complicated, they needed slightly different training plans.

During their program some of what we covered;

🐾 Dog reactivity

🐾 People reactivity

🐾 Calmness in the house

🐾 Building confidence

🐾 Making walks enjoyable for everyone

🐾 Focus on their human

I was back with this sweet girl recently for her penultimate session.

Throughout her 1:1 training program we’ve;

🐾 Raised her confidence levels considerably

🐾 Improved her focus on her humans

🐾 Allowed her the opportunity to make the ‘right’ choices

🐾 Given her the freedom to decide what she feels comfortable with

My next is that No is full sentence.

🐾 You don’t have to attend events if you don’t want too.

🐾 You don’t have to let a stranger interact with your dog if they won’t enjoy it.

🐾 You don’t have to feel guilty if you don’t have the mental capacity for something.

As humans we often have a people pleasing desire or a desire to not appear rude - often to our own detriment.
Saying no at times or setting boundaries doesn’t make you a bad friend, family member or person.

Who says you can’t teach old dogs new tricks?

The little cutie at the front has joined me for a puppy program and the older gentleman has decided it looks fun and is joining in learning new behaviours as we go.

So far we’ve worked on;

🐾 Calmness when the doorbell goes

🐾 Calmness when guests are in the home

🐾 Focus on their human during walks

👇🏻 What’s went well this week with you and your dog - no matter how big or small??

Mine is that my darling Len is adjusting to slight tweaks to his daily routine while we try and get on top of his allergies.
It seems as though he has multiple allergies (which is potentially why we don’t get longer than a month before flare ups) and we’ve been treating each time individually. With our vet we’ll now be aiming to combat them all, with a trip to a dermatologist in Lenny boys future 😢
Think I’m more stressed than him 🙈

For today’s I’m celebrating this amazing boy graduating from his training walks.

He’s a young lad that wants to experience everything, often all at once 😂 and being the strong boy he is means you were going wherever he wanted to go 🙈

We’ve spent the last couple of months;

🐾 Improving his focus on his humans

🐾 Improving his impulse control

🐾 Improving his lead walking skills

🐾 Reducing his desire to scream hello

He’s going to be joining me for regular dog walks s between his humans and I we’ll be able to keep his training consistent 🥰

There will be a little before & after video of his progress later on today ❤️

This magnificent guy was with me recently for an assessment session.

During the session we worked on;

🐾 Calmness when people enter the home

🐾 Reducing frustration levels

🐾 Brain games to give him outlets

My next is to consider what would help manage stress levels, and make a plan.

This can be for absolutely anything.

🐾 If you find a trip to the vet stressful because your dog finds it stressful - ask your vet practise for either a first or final appointment of the day. Perhaps they could assess your dog in the car. Maybe they have a side entrance you could use so you don’t have to enter and exit through the main lobby

🐾 If like me, you hate food shopping. Go with a friend or your partner. Grab a coffee and both do your weekly shop.
Avoid peak times, eg weekends. Order online if you’d rather not go at all.

🐾 A journey in the car that you haven’t done before. If you know far enough in advance, plan a day where you can do a dummy run. Take a picnic with you and stop somewhere pretty for a walk and to eat your lunch.
The day of the journey, leave an hour or 2 early. (Depending on the length of the journey) It will then take the stress of traffic and roadworks away because you know you’ve plenty of time

🐾 A social event that you know will wipe out your energy. Plan for some time before and after to be whatever you need so that you can relax and enjoy it.

There will be things that crop up that will need dealt with immediately that you’re unable to plan in advance for.
Life has a habit of throwing a spanner in the works eh?
With these - manage them however best you can, then plan for something you find relaxing as soon as you’re able to recoup.

It’s unrealistic to expect no stress in life, just like with our wonderful reactive dogs, it’s about how we manage those stressful moments and how we recover.
