UK Storm Update.β οΈβ οΈ.
Storm DARRAGH has now been declared for Saturday. Significant impacts from wind & rain are likely across much of the UK.
This will be an exceptionally SLOW moving storm. This means that the affects from severe winds will be increased.
The storm is now forecast to take the more northerly track; introducing severe winds of 60-80mph for much of central & western England, Wales and Ireland.
Winds will increase to severe gale force for much of Ireland on Friday evening. Wind speeds of 70-80mph will affect Ireland widely from around 10pm on Friday, this lasting much of the night.
Winds will reach severe gale force for SW England and Wales from around 1am on Saturday, this lasting through much of Saturday morning. Wind gusts of 70-80mph are likely widely here, even inland. Wind gusts of 80-90mph are likely on coasts here.
This will likely result in significant and widespread travel disruption, and significant damage.
Winds will then increase between 7am and 1pm through the West Midlands, the Bristol Channel, the coasts of NW England, and the South Coast, widely reaching gusts of 60-70mph. This will likely result in similar disruption.
A second swathe of strong winds is then likely in the afternoon across the East Coast of England, from North Yorkshire into Lincolnshire, potentially affecting East Anglia and the South East. This may produce wind gusts of 60-75mph. However, there is some uncertainty about the wind speeds forecast here, wind speeds in the range of 55-75mph may occur.
The rest of England, including the Midlands, central Northern England are likely to see wind gusts of 50-60mph widely. This will likely result in moderate travel disruption. There will be significant rainfall from this event. Most areas will see between 20-40mm, however parts of inland Wales and the Pennines may see 60-70mm. This will likely result in flooding in these areas.
