Little tip for anyone who has to buy medicines, flea or worming treatments for their pets, in these challenging times buying medicines and the treatments you need for your pets can be expensive but what lots of people don't know is that you can often buy these things for a lot less online.
Many pet drugs and flea treatments require a prescription but you vet has to supply you with one of these if you ask for it, they will make a charge of usually £10-12 , you can then use this to purchase exactly the same things online but for much less.
An example, we recently were prescribed something called Zodon for our cat, as we were at the vets we just took the bottle and paid £38 for it, online at Pet Drugs Online one of a number of websites who sell pet drugs, the exact same drug in exactly the same sized bottle will cost you £10.19, that's a saving of around £28.
Its simple to do, once you have the prescription you simply photography it using your phone and upload it to their website, depending on the drugs prescriptions can be for 3,6 or 12 months and you don't have to purchase 12 months of drug at one time, once the prescription is registered, you can call off what you need until the prescription expires.
Things like Frontline can in our experience be 50% cheaper online, a family member has to give her dog a tablet every day, the vets charge 79p, online the same one is 29p, we buy a box of 100 at a time saving £50 each time, even after paying £12 for a prescription that is some saving and that is 3.5 times a year.
This can really help save money and with just about everything going up, can make a big difference, also check if you are being prescribed a drug/cream that is also used on humans as can often be the case with oral or eye treatments as you can often buy these over the counter at say Boots for a fraction of the cost a vet will supply them to you for, of course make sure its exactly the same item and strength but often it will just be the same packet.
Flea treatments, one family member was paying £24 a pack, at Pet Drugs online it is £12 and flea treatments you should be able to get at least a 6 month prescription saving even more.
And yes if you go to the main one like Pet Drugs Online or Animed they are all RCVS and VMD approved so you are buying the same drugs as the vets supply.
