**Latest Weather & Satellite Update**

Good morning, everyone

Today is the last day across all parts of our region for high temperatures.

Last weekend and Monday western parts were affected by a lot of cloud and mist ad well as a little drizzle so here, we've only had yesterday and again today, to enjoy some really heat and sunshine.

Today's temperatures could reach between 22 degrees and 26 degrees with parts of Somerset seeing the highest temperatures overall.

Now, as you can see clearly by the latest Satellite Radar image attached, there is a curl of cloud out in the Atlantic, which is an area of low pressure.

This will make advances overnight tonight, moving into northern parts of the UK.

The tail of this low will push across us, introducing fresher air and slightly lower temperatures, but it's not all doom and gloom.

We will still see high teens, low twenties for the rest of this week, into next week, and a lot of dry weather.

There will be some showers possible tomorrow, especially over parts of east Devon and up into Somerset, which could affect Glastonbury.

These will be isolated, so the risk is low for all.

We will also see more in the way of cloud association with this low pressure system, so not wall to wall sunshine like we will see today.

Humidity is very high currently and will climb further throughout this afternoon making it feel sticky but this too will be pushed away overnight into tomorrow morning, making for a better night's sleep tomorrow onwards, for those suffering.

Enjoy today's last day of warm, if not hot, sunshine as we are back to average temperatures from tomorrow for the last few days of June.

Anybody recognise this card. There are three. Found in Peverell on the floor. I would suggest someone is making and seeking them and will want them back.

So this just happened 😂 (again!) humans traps on their merry old way.

DAILY FORECAST FOR CORNWALL AND DEVON

Monday 13th May 2024

MET OFFICE YELLOW WEATHER WARNING FOR RAIN VALID FROM 08:00 until 23:59

Good morning, everyone,

Well, it’s my week to do the forecasting, and to make quite the entrance, I come with a Met Office Yellow Weather Warning for rain.

Once the rain gets going this morning, it will be persistent and heavy. This is likely to cause some tricky driving conditions, and potentially some disruption, so please allow plenty of time if you are making a journey. If driving, if you need your windscreen wipers, you also need your lights. Proper lights, please. Not driving lights. People need to see you from behind.

A fresh breeze accompanies the rain. This is likely to be strong for parts of Cornwall in the morning.

Come the evening, we get a slight break from the rain, and maybe a little glimpse of the sunshine before nightfall.

Overnight sees showers returning for parts of Cornwall and South Devon, with the odd drizzly patch elsewhere.

Winds: S-SSE, 11mph to 27mph, with higher speeds of around 41mph in parts of Cornwall

Temperature: Daytime highs of 14 to 16 degrees with overnight lows of around 10 to 11 degrees

Humidity: 91%

Pressure: 1000mb

Visibility: Moderate

Pollen: Low

UV: Low

Sunrise: 05:31

Sunset: 20:55

Have a lovely day!

Kind regards,
Jane

EARLY SWSC WEATHER WATCH FOR POTENTIAL RISK OF THUNDERSTORMS

Valid from 11:00 Sunday 12th May
Valid until 19:00 Sunday 12th May

Areas at risk:
•Cornwall
•Devon
•Isle of Scilly

Good morning,

The rest of this week, it heats up further, so by Saturday, we could be seeing a few inland areas within the southwest, hitting between 21 to 24 degrees.

At the same time, humidity starts to build across the Southwest, all thanks to an area of low pressure developing out in the Bay of Biscay and north-western parts of France.

This will help to push temperatures up and the humidity, which will make it feel more uncomfortable.

The heat and humidity being pushed into our region during Saturday is key to what could be a spectacular and abrupt end to the settled, warm sunshine we would have enjoyed the last few days.

As this low pressure pushes up during Sunday morning into Sunday afternoon, things are set to get interesting indeed.

Thunderstorms are likely to break out widely across north western parts of France, then push up into parts of Cornwall and Devon.

Cornwall and Devon currently stand at being the highest risk zone for some torrential downpours and localised thunderstorms, which could be really nasty for a time.

Due to light winds, these storms and heavy downpours will be slow moving, heading north, northeast, bringing flash flooding like conditions with 20mm up to 50mm of rainfall in a short space of time.

There will be a lot of standing water on our roads, power cuts to homes and businesses alike, as well as further disruption to travel networks like flights and train services.

The timing is subject to change as well as the areas likely to be affected but for now, based on the latest weather data models, parts of Cornwall and Devon are at the highest risk of what could be spectacular thunderstorm event.

Sadly, this will end the warm spring sunshine and drier weather as we then return back to a more unsettled theme from next week.

Make the most of the warm sunshine whilst we have it..!
