Look at all those yawns 🥱
Yawning in horses can be a sign of relaxation as well as a release of muscle tension, it is one of the signs I look for that ensure what I am doing is working! Other signs can include lowering the head, licking and chewing, and closing the eyes 😴
Lovely Lana benefitting from a pre-fun ride massage session to relax epaxial spinal musculature and release trigger points 😴
Now that the equestrian summer is officially underway we are about to be asking a lot more from our horses and ponies. Getting them a physiotherapy workup and treatment or massage session can help to iron out any niggles before we ask them to perform for us! Physiotherapist can enhance performance by:
🔹️increasing muscle strength
🔹️lengthening their stride
🔹️increasing suppleness and flexibility
🔹️developing stamina
Don't hesitate to get in contact and treat your equine athletes to a session today!
Hand grazing is most commonly utilised when a horse is in box rest, but can also be an invaluable tool in the winter when your horses are being kept in due to the weather. What benefits does it have?
🔹️Allowing the horse to move freely encourages flow of synovial fluid in the joints, which provides the bones and soft tissue with nutrients and protection against concussive forces
🔹️Encourages blood flow which allows the delivery of oxygen, lymphatic fluid and nutrients to the body
🔹️Mental simulation which can reduce the likelihood of stereotypical behaviours such as weaving or cribbing
🔹️Bonding time! Spending time on the ground with your horse can develop your trust and relationship
2022 you've been a blast 🙌🏻 in my first full year of business I've met some incredible clients and animals and cannot wait to continue the journey in 2023, thank you all so much 💙
Wishing all my wonderful clients a very merry Christmas and a happy new year, for both you and your lovely animals 🐕🐎🎄
This was a chilly one! Thank goodness for the rain coming and melting the ice 🌧
Rock your body! The lateral hindlimb sway is an excellent stable exercise to utilise, especially when the weather limits your ability to ride! 🌧💨
A gentle rocking motion activates the abductor and adductor muscle groups in the hindlimb, and can also mobilise the spinal extensor chain along the back. How can doing this exercise benefit your horse?
🔹️muscle strengthening
🔹️stretching of the soft tissues and muscles in the hindlimb and back
🔹️core development
🔹️spinal flexibility
🔹️develop balance and co-ordination
🔹️joint mobilisation
This is an excellent exercise to add to your routine, exercises should only be performed under the discretion of your veterinary physiotherapist. Alongside this, there are so many stable exercises that can enhance your horses health, to arrange an appointment and create your own exercise plan, please contact me!

🧨Dyno🧨
After a tumble in the school I came to see Dyno to give him a quick once over to check for any obvious injury, lameness or muscle damage. He showed no sign of injury so just recieved a massage to the epaxial muscles of the back along with his regular stretches and exercises. He'll be back doing what he loves after a couple of well earned days off!
If your horse takes a fall it is always a good idea to get them looked at by a professional to ensure there are no injuries that the untrained eye may have missed.
