WE’RE A POSITIVE AND HAPPY RESCUE TEAM……BUT WE ARE DROWNING AND NEED YOUR HELP, PLEASE!
Like all small rescue charities, we are utterly physically and mentally exhausted.
We are receiving requests every day from people who want to give up their cats. The past few days has been particularly dreadful.
From people who have found stray or abandoned cats or sick cats, or injured cats or old cats; but mainly from people who no longer want the cat companion they once adored.
A huge part of the problem is people refusing to neuter their cats. Another, is the novelty of the cute kitten wearing off, and the reality of being a responsible cat parent setting in.
We are now really facing the reality of being unable to cope. We’re seriously struggling to find space for these poor cats and kittens in need.
We have a small number of cattery pens and a very, very small team of fosterers…who can only care for a limited number of cats in their own homes, whilst working full time in their day jobs to make ends meet.
We are not one of the large national cat charities. We don’t have a healthy bank account, big sponsors, nor any paid employees.
We’re all volunteers, we do it because we care about the cats and kittens in need.
We cannot help every cat, however much we desperately want to. Priority MUST be given to the most vulnerable.
With very limited resources, we have to make heartbreaking decisions about who we can help and who we can’t.
Every one of us is damaged because of this.
Constantly walking around with a broken heart, whilst trying to remain positive about this horrendous situation and continue to help.
We struggle to sleep, wondering about who to help first, and being sick to our stomachs with worry about those we had to say no to.
And doing this every day takes its toll on us as volunteers. It hurts. We have sleepless nights and agonising days. We have to make a decision about which cats we help and who we have to turn away.
We are ranted at and abused because we can’t offer to help, or can’t offer immediate help and the person on the other end of the phone demands to know why this underfunded charity can’t step in to help them because they can’t afford the cat……..
Despite calling us from an iPhone, smoking a cigarette whilst chatting to us and, often, calling us from a public house to abuse us, whilst having a few drinks…..and then rocking up to the rescue in a new car.
We couldn’t keep going without the support of you guys. Your financial support, your kind words, adopting cats from us, liking and sharing our posts….All of it keeps us positive and keeps us doing the good and important work of cat and kitten rescue.
We are seriously short of space. We need foster parents for our cats and kittens.
So, please, if you have a spare room that a cat/ cats/ kitten/ kittens can be kept safe and secure until we re-home them, please, please, please get in touch.
PLEASE OFFER TO BECOME A CAT/ KITTEN FOSTERER.
But we can no longer do this alone, no matter how hard we try
We need your help. Please. We need our Moggies community.
So, could you be a fosterer for Moggies Cat Rescue?
Do you live in Aberdare or in the CF44 or CF45 postcode area? Do you a have a spare room for cats and kittens in need?
Fosterers look after the cats and kittens in their own home, until our dedicated rehoming team finds them a forever home.
Fosterers are the most important and much needed part of the rescue.
It’s the best job. And it’s the hardest job. Fills you with love and heartbreak. Emotional rollercoaster every day. But so very worthwhile.
Cat fostering involves providing love, care and all the necessities to ensure they are healthy and happy.
If you go out to work, or have other pets, you can still become a fosterer.
We provide the food, litter, veterinary treatment, re-homing etc and are here for any support you might need.
If you could accommodate a litter of kittens, or an older mature cat or any cat inbetween, we need you!!!!! You advise us what you could cope with.
Any cat you help is a cat rescued and on his/ her way to their best life.
And that’s what makes it worthwhile. We hate seeing them go to the their wonderful new homes…..But we love it at the same time! And when we get updates from the awesome new homes…..Tears of joy!
And if you’re thinking, “I couldn’t do it, I’d keep them all…” We’ve all thought exactly the same thing. And still do. And we cry every single day. But best interests of the cats and kittens first. Always.
