Tyson is looking for his retirement home, his mum have had a change in circumstances.

He is an elderly man who comes with a set-up if needed.
He is 3 in April (we think) can find out for sure.

Morning cherubs! 🦔 Bit of a warning for you today. ⚠️⚠️⚠️

It’s come to my attention that a woman called Jules Nelle (now referring to herself as Elle Erin on Facebook and Hedgehog Masterclass on Instagram), is messaging unsolicited advice to owners.

Usually would have no problem with this and leave it to people to decide if they take the advice, however, this person was removed from the APH Club UK group for giving out dangerous and incorrect advice. She’s only owned her hog for a few months and so is in no position to be advising anyone, particularly not with the rubbish she’s coming out with.

Usually I’m quite easy going with these things, but as you can tell, this has hit a nerve for me as my owners know I’m there 24/7 for even the most simple question, and I’ll always offer the best advice for them and their hedgehog (which, as I helped bring them into this world, I know quite well). The thought that someone is trying to undermine and undo the good care that I know my owners provide, frankly, makes me angry. 😂 So if you’re approached by this page, please ignore anything she says and block the account. The advice she gives is incorrect, and the fact she’s such little experience but is falsely portraying herself as the Hedgehog Masterclass is worrying and dangerous, so the less airtime she gets, the better.

Please only source your care advice and information from a reputable source such as the Club group or a reputable, ethical breeder. I’m ALWAYS here, for not just my owners but also anyone that needs help or has a question, so please just message me. ☺️

Good morning everyone.

I would like to make an announcement to all my followers and fellow friends.

I have officially decided to retire from breeding hedgehogs.
I have been breeding for 10 years but slowed right down the last year.

I want to thank everyone for their support and some of you have been through the thick with me 💪🏼

I will always been here for help and advice, i still have my old hogs that will live their days with me.

I won’t say this retirement will be forever, but life is just too busy at the moment.

Like his Russian vodka namesake, Toff is a stubborn but spirited (get it? 😉) character looking for the perfect home to make his mark. Toff has had a difficult home life before coming into the rehoming service, having missed out on some valuable socialising and bonding time with humans, and although he’s not everyone’s tipple, we’ve big hopes that his perfect mixer is out there. 🍹🙏

He’s quite slight in stature and requires an extra shot of heat compared to some to feel comfortable. 🔥 He enjoys wheeling and bar snacks of the insect variety but isn’t massively adventurous with food.

A bit like most of us the morning after the night before, Toff isn’t massively keen on human interaction and being handled. He can be quite hit and miss as to when he wants attention, so his new owner will need to be just as headstrong and determined to make him feel safe and loved. ❤️

Toff is best suited to an experienced, confident owner so if you’re up for a challenge and ready to dive in neat and on the rocks then you may be the perfect person to bring out his inner party animal. 💃🕺

I hope I haven’t confused you guys of my posts 🙈🤣

We have had 4 hedgehogs couriered by the fantastic Reptimove, he has been fantastic a huge thank you to Darren.
There was 9 hogs in total but only 4 came to us 😘

2 were bred by club breeders.
Dali and Olive - both would have gone back to their breeders, but I have offered to find homes here in the South…less breeders, more demand for homes. Both with paperwork.
Arcticfrost Hedgehogs & Pricklepigs Hedgehogs.

1 was bred from a European breeder but we have no idea who or have NO paperwork for, so has been signed over to the rescue/rehome...his new home will be communicated by them at Hedgehog Club UK Rescue & Rehoming Service.

The 4th lad is Buzz but now renamed to P**N STAR MARTINI. In-line with my alcohol names 🤣🙈 he has been bred by an overseas breeder Kitti with paperwork.
I have had consent from both breeder Kitti and previous owner, to keep him for my breeding herd. He has some amazing blood lines that will help further our generations without inbreeding or line breeding.

So a huge Thank you to everyone involved with the small operation…and the 3 will be looking for homes In the near future.

This is our third and final rehome.

He has gone through the Hedgehog Club UK Rescue & Rehoming Service as we don’t know who his breeder is.

His name is Apache.
He is a beautiful heavy grey flake..
Male.

He I’ve awfully shy…to the point of never really seen his face, as I explained in the video.
I do worry he will be with me for a very long time, or if anyone has firm leather hands and persistent personality, this little guy is a perfect project for you.

I’ll update all 3 in the weeks to come.

We need to talk, I’ve had sleepless nights lately thinking about what the future holds.

African Pygmy Hedgehogs are a specialist species and when I first got my first hedgehog in 2007 there was a handful of breeders.

As the years have gone by cute hog adverts and sonic the hedgehog has made them a popular choice of pet…..sort of….you see most people get them home and they either realise they take more time and care than they thought or their child loses interest.

Because the price of hedgehogs has risen from £100-£150 to £200-£500 more and more people have decided to take up breeding.

As it stands we are overwhelmed by the amount of hogs needing our help and we are going to have to close our doors soon whilst we find homes for the ones in our care.

It’s a short term solution to a massive problem that’s keeping me awake at night. As soon as we find homes for the ones we’ve got our books fill back up. We don’t have the resources to support hundreds of hedgehogs at any one time.

We have very few good solid safe homes lined up and at some point something will have to give.

I’d say roughly 90% of the hedgehogs that come through our doors are bred by back yard breeders or pet shop supply chains.

As it’s coming up to Christmas it’s frightening that the “after Christmas dump” will be worse than it’s ever been.

So what can you do to help?

📌 share our rescue around, help us reach people who can offer homes to a Pygmy hedgehog.

📌 research before buying, they aren’t cheap or easy. They can’t live outside or in cages.

📌 don’t buy them as Christmas gifts for children or teens. They can live upto 7 years….if your kid goes off to university who’s caring for it?

📌 if going to a breeder please only go to good breeders. Good breeders take back their hogs if you have to rehome in the future so they don’t contribute to the rescue crisis.

We don’t want to see Pygmy hedgehogs become the next rescue crisis….but it’s getting close.

We are all exhausted and scared for the future, please help us protect them.

This is our second hedgehog who has come into us to be rehomed due to unforeseen circumstances.

She will be up soon for a new postcode but not yet.

Her name is Olive.
She is one of the BIGGEST hedgehogs I have ever seen in my 10 years of owning 🤣🙈
She is in a strict diet.

She suffers sore skin on her belly.
She can’t role up her entire body.
She struggles to walk far.

We have free roamed her and scatter her food for exercise .
She is lazy and would rather not eat than move. 🤦🏼‍♀️
we use a shallow bath, which is enough to lift her off the floor to make her swim a few lengths with my assistance and supervision.
We also role her onto her back and make her work to role back.

As you can see she sometimes pees where she sleeps…so regular baths.
Which causes a new problem of dry skin.
This is treated with anicura.

We have already seen a huge difference in her body shape and energy levels since being with us.
