puppies before their vaccinations, dogs with exercises restrictions or ability, indoor cats and other who require human companionship. As an owner of overexcited dog, at times my opportunities for walks were limited. Having a high drive dog with tones of energy was leaving me and my home at risk of unwanted behaviour and damage. I needed something to keep his mind bu
sy and the teeth out of mischief and this is how I came across enrichment. I read and learnt about this subject extensively and found it fascinating. I also discovered my love for creative ways of keeping the dog interested and sharing my knowledge and experience with others. In 2021 I run “enrichment for dogs” challenge in one of a local dog group. The reception was awesome! People stated that enrichment made a difference in their and their pets’ lives but found it difficult to fit regular sessions in due to other commitments. Then my sister got 2 kittens and the learning began again! They were little and mischievous, in-door cats with bundles of energy and little room for outlet so I shared my love for enrichment, and it was a big hit again! I started to speak to other cat and dog owners and sharing the joy of having busy yet relaxed pets at home with the use of enrichment. But lets go back a bit and think why enrichment? It improves and enhances a participant’s mental state which is perfect for our anxious as well as overexcited dogs. It uses a range of activities designed to challenge and exercise their brains as opposed to their body. This leads to animals that are able to relax more and rest in between activities. It encourages a participant to problem solve, learn new skills, and become more confident. It also provides an outlet to the scavenging and hunting instincts in our pets. Let me meet your pet and find ways to make their life more fulfilled.
