Do you have an indoor cat?🐱

🐈 If you have one or two indoor-only cats between 6 months and 13 years of age, you can help researchers at the University of Edinburgh with a study about environmental enrichment! 😺

Feline expert Professor Danielle Gunn-Moore and her team are investigating the impact of environmental enrichment on the wellbeing of indoor cats. The study will compare four enrichment methods:

🐾 Daily playing using a wand toy
🐾 15 minutes of Cat TV per day
🐾 Installation of a Feliway Diffuser
🐾 Encouraging food foraging

Those who participate will be assigned one of these methods to try over 14 days.

This video is of Marty who has been seeing Danni our RVN for Confidence Clinics. This video shows him getting used to a different member of staff (Leanne another RVN) and him allowing her to place a stethoscope on him - something that was very scary a few months ago!

His owner has been incredibly committed to the training and under our guidance, has taught him the "bucket game" which he is demonstrating perfectly here. As long as he's focused on his bucket, Leanne is allowed to examine him, but if he moves then she has to stop. It teaches him his actions have meaning, and we will listen.

Confidence Clinics are effectively a training programme for those dogs who are worried at the Vets. Dogs that are scared at the Vets will get worse over time to the point where sometimes the quality of the Veterinary care they receive can be compromised, e.g. if the animal cannot be examined conscious. If you would like to find out more about these please speak to a member of our team who would be happy to help.
