Trying to find a quiet moment to sit down and work on paperwork is never easy in this house π
Piper just wants to be involved in everything I do ππ¦π¦
Happy Valentine's day to two of our resident love birds - Piper and Pablo! We hope you guys all got flowers too!
It's been such a terrific start to our year so far. Our big relaunch was just over one month ago and we are already booked up almost to capacity till the summer! We only do a few visits each week to give the animals lots of rest and playtime, so if you would like us to come along to your birthday party, school, youth group nursing home or event please get in touch early to check for availability :) π¦πΌπ¦π¦¨π¦π¦π
Nice ending for this little sparrow hawk who was released yesterday - found earlier in the week extremely lethargic and close to death, but after an almost miraculous recovery he's back to the wild :)
What an exciting year we have had so far π!
So much work and planning has been going on behind the scenes, and very soon I will finally be able to share some incredible announcements with you all!
We have also been getting a lot of messages recently asking if we are still doing visits etc - unfortunately the answer is still no for the foreseeable future as the current regulations still do not allow it and it is just not safe to do so :(.
We have all been keeping busy looking after the animals and making sure their lives are amazing. We had a massive order of new ropes arrive for all the enclosures, Mango the binturong is the first to have them installed - I thought it would take her some time to get used to them but nope, with that tail she was able to balance straight away with no issues!
Our facility also had a huge inspection last week for the renewal of our DWA license, I always get so nervous but it went amazing and everything passed with flying colours π
Hey, St Patrick? I think you missed one π¬
Happy celebrating everyone π
Happy new year folks πππ
I promised you all an update so here you go! As you all know, Casey's Creatures came to an end due to the challenges faced by 2020. But thanks to your unbelievable support we have survived, and the plan to move the animals to their new home where they can have a safe future is well under way!
This is it guys. 7 acres of land, nestled in a valley, surrounded by woodland, completely hidden and yet easily accessible from everywhere on the North Coast. Surveys have began on the site and we have started the process of obtaining planning permission. But this really is it - the new home of Casey's Creatures, or as we will now be called: Tales of the Wild.
Today marks the launch of our new branding and our new mission. I have made an official request to Facebook to change the name of this page to Tales of the Wild, and that should apparently happen within the next couple of days! You will all get a notification of this, hopefully the transition goes smoothly and without any confusion.
Still a long way to go. Planning permission will have its own hurdles, as will raising the funds and then building the place! But if things go to plan, we will break ground before the end of this year and open Phase One in early 2022 π
Brand new website coming very soon, including new announcements, new content, new videos, and many more ways for you to become involved with our new project.
And for anyone not completely familiar with what we are aiming to achieve, here you go! Tales of the Wild will be a brand new state of the art conservation centre based on the North Coast. We will continue to operate as a sanctuary for both injured/orphaned wildlife and exotic animals in need of a home, but also joining specialist breeding programmes for endangered or threatened species to protect their numbers in the wild. We will be open to the public as an educational resource, mainly to teach the future generation how incredible and vulnerable the natural wo
Today is my birthday! Gutted not to able to celebrate properly with my friends and family, but at least I get to spend the day with this little trouble maker π
When Mango first arrived she was so timid and shy, it took forever to win her over. Now all she ever wants to do is play, cuddle and explore.
If you missed our last video introducing her, Mango is a baby binturong - an incredibly unique species of animal from the Asian rainforests, also called a bearcat or popcorn bear because she smells exactly like popcorn!
In the wild, the binturong's habitat is being destroyed due to deforestation and consequently they are a threatened species. Conservation starts with falling in love with nature and realising there are little changes you can make to your daily life that can end up having a positive impact on the natural world instead of a negative one.
And that's exactly what our future non-profit conservation and education centre, Tales of the Wild, will all be about - while raising vital funds for conservation efforts globally we will also be equipping the future generation with the passion, knowledge and desire to help save our natural world.
We are so excited by your support and to have you come with us on this journey. Casey's Creatures started as one young person with a dream but it's about to turn into something much bigger - and this page will be going through some changes this month to reflect that - a new website and new platforms for you to interact with us, and a new name! Before the end of this month 'Casey's Creatures' will change over to 'Tales of the Wild' so look out for that :) and the entire page will be dedicated to keeping you posted about our efforts to establish a state of the art non-profit facility dedicated to conservation and education here on the north coast.
From Casey, the creatures, and all the team behind the scenes - thank you so much for helping us get this far!
Okay guys, I need your feedback and you're not allowed to make fun of my teacher/animal presenter voice π
This is my first attempt at what will eventually become my first YouTube video. Before I do some more takes and some editing and officially launch it I'd love to hear what you think. How is the quality? How does the whole thing flow? Did my message come across well about the purpose for our new conservation centre? I know the sound quality needs to be better and I should record in landscape in the future - but is this the kind of content you would like to see?
You also get to meet Mango the binturong, one the most special creatures I've ever had the privilege of caring for π
Plant wildflowers in your garden. It's good for nature and better for your soul than a manicured lawn.
Our animal care team spent the day coming up with some new enrichment prototypes for the raccoons. Next stage is to make a more natural looking version of this but we wanted to check they would use it first, Falkor the albino is the only one smart enough for it so far!
Even the otters joined in πππ
