With Halloween over, there will be an immense amount of pumpkins heading for the rubbish. Please do not put it out into your garden for the wildlife. They are particularly a problem to hedgehogs as they cause diarrhoea. This can cause them to go into hibernation with empty stomachs and dehydration. Which drastically reduces their chances of getting through the winter.

It can also cause a problem for animals in the forest. There were reports of ponies suffering choke last year who had been eating pumpkin. Ponies don't have the ability to be sick, and if something gets lodged in their throat, they can't bring it back up and can choke. So please, either compost your pumpkins or donate to a farm or zoo. If you know a pig farmer, they will be delighted to take them off your hands!
