The quiver or shaking of a dog….
Some people mistake this as cold, nerves or fear of which it can be!

However when your dog is in work mode the adrenaline is pumping and when trying to stay steady and not move, it simply results in the quiver or shake.

These two have seen a retrieve thrown and have waited a few minutes without being sent, hence the quivers!

Steadiness and patience is required from working dogs. It isn’t all about the hunting and retrieving non stop!

Make sure you teach your dog to switch off and be steady. If you can’t on dummy then you have no chance at all on game or wildlife!

✅Having 8 Spaniels people assume we walk for miles and for hours!

❌There is no need, we simply train them breed specifically and engage and nurture their breed instincts, but under control!

💪🏻Such as hunting and retrieve work.

👌🏼30mins each a day doing intense training with the odd day off is all they need if you teach this as a routine.

🏆Always calm and relaxed and satisfied at home and chill indoors.

💪🏼Encourage the drive in them, then control it and have the obedience along side it. It’s an art but worth it when you nail it!

✅Teaching a sit/down or stop at distance isn’t just for Gundogs. It’s a handy command to have!

✅Also handy to have it trained on the whistle!

✅Couple of the youngsters learning off the older ones to stop on a seen retrieve!

✅Really useful skill if you want a different retrieve or even stop your dog on what it wants such as a pet dog wanting to chase game or wildlife!

✅Whistle stops are important as they are used for stopping to flush or shot.

✅Whistle stops are important for blind retrieves or when your dog gets a retrieve wrong and we need to stop them and redirect them.

✅Whistle sit means sit/stop and don’t move until instructed.

✅Even if you don’t work your dog a stop is great to save your dog from danger or wildlife if they are prone to chasing.

✅If you cant stop them close then you won’t at distance in on wildlife or game

🏆Lovely recommendation on FB thank you!

I really couldn’t recommend Southdowns Dogs Services enough. We started with a 1 year old Working Cocker Spaniel puppy who we couldn’t let off the lead and who really struggled with anxiety and stress in outside situations. After training with Joe , up to the advanced level, she is the dream family dog and absolutely loves her training sessions. We now have full control of her when out and about, and can enjoy training her in all sorts of settings from the woods to the beach. The service goes further than the training sessions, as Joe is always on hand to offer help and advice on diet, training equipment and general healthcare for our dog.
