✅Beautiful morning of lessons started with teaching Tallie to stop on a bolting rabbit 🐇 (fake at this point).
🏆A few attempts and she soon nailed it!
✅All Gundogs have the drive. Drive is needed to do encourage or drive dog to find game. However no gundog is expected to chase game once it has flushed. So we have to teach the stop and put the brakes on.
This should be taught whether you work your dog or not!! You have to be in control of your dogs drive if you buy a gundog. Otherwise you will have stressful time watching your driven dog chasing animals which of course is not desirable and in many cases a crime.

Dogs under control

✅One question I get asked a lot is how do you control your 11 dogs when out?…Here are 7 of them out and having freedom..🤔
How am I controlling them?
🤔How am I getting their focus?
🤔How am I confident I have control?
🤔What… no commands….?
🤔Why are they not running wild and free?
🤔Why are they so close?
✅Previous training individually!
✅I am their world and centre of all things great and not other people or other dogs. ✅Close is having control and actually breed specific!
✅Close by and having fun by you and not away from you is the key!
✅I am their Pack leader because we are a pack and I make the decisions and they follow and trust my judgement. Dogs understand this. I also have a top ranking bitch and a top ranking male within the dog pack of which I supersed and they follow my lead.
😖what if a strange dog ran over?
✅ They would warn me by maybe barking. I would tell them thanks and that will do. They would relax because I’m in charge and I don’t consider the dog a threat!
✅They may not alert me and they may wait for the dog to approach and make a decision then…usually they ignore other dogs because we are our own pack and we mind our own business which is “normal” dog behaviour.
✅what if a dog came over and was persistently annoying/harassing or annoying one of my dogs (when people claim it’s play), I would read my dog and if my dog was not engaging in play and not happy then I would ask owner to recall dog…if they have no recall then I would intervene and no matter what I would stop that dog getting close to my dog…otherwise my dog would have to react to remove that dog! If thi
Understand your spaniel
⚠️You have a spaniel and have no control?
⚠️You have a spaniel and have no connection?
⚠️You have a spaniel and have no recall?
⚠️You have spaniel and it loves to chase animals, leaves, butterflies?
✅If you own a spaniel you have to understand they to want to run around sniffing at a million miles an hour and love tracking scent.
This is because it’s been bred into them to track and find game.
✅Before spaniels were bought as pets that were not going to work, this breed was bought and bred to find game for the table.
If you had a high drive spaniel who was eager and keen to find game then it was great and you were on to a winner.
✅However those who bought these and shot over them for the table would have understood that these spaniels need to be trained to keep close. If they range to far away from you then if they flush any game the game could be out of shot range and the whole process would have been pointless and waste of time.
So those who worked their dogs trained them to hunt close and quarter left and right of themselves making sure the dog didn’t miss any ground.
✅The second thing to consider is that these dogs were bred to have a high drive/desire to find game. However once they found it they would then chase it if not trained. This is also pointless as the game can’t be shot of a dog is bolting off after it and scaring more game away whilst running around out of shot range.
So that is why these dogs were also trained to stop to shot/flush/whistle. To make sure there was a safe shot and the dog could mark the game down.
✅Now the process of training the quartering and stopping on game can take time. You needed a biddable dog who wanted to work with you. The training of these steps enhanced the bond between owner and dog. They ended up working in harmony together and as a team.
✅The reason spaniels are considered great family pets is because they were bred to be keen, eager, wanting to please and full of
✅Really chuffed today to have young Stiora come 4th in Leconfields Open trail at Arundel today. ✅She was also awarded guns choice 💪🏼.
