EXCITING NEWS!! ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ

We have invested in a class 4 veterinary grade laser (companion animal health) to aid the therapy of the dogs we see.

The laser is one of the best on the market and scientifically proven to reduce pain and inflammation.

Can treat, post op, inflammations, degenerative joint diseases, skin conditions, osteoarthritis, ear infections, dental and wounds.

Itโ€™s fully insurance claimable (check you cover) but on using on my own dogs have already seen amazing results.

Itโ€™s pain free and short sessions make sure the dog is comfortable.

At the moment this will be in the hydro centre but can also extend to mobile clients if required.

Hydro clients will also be able to take advantage of a combined special price when taken with a swim.

Get in touch for more details.

We are so excited to announce that the diary is now open every Saturday for appointments with Hannah our Veterinary Physiotherapist! Sessions are ยฃ45 and Veterinary Consent is required (unless you already have a signed form)

Possible reasons why you might want your dog checking over:
โ€ขSporting or working dog
โ€ขBreed standard showing
โ€ขOlder/senior
โ€ขRecovery from injury/operation
โ€ขConcerns over a funny walking pattern you may have spotted

Here's a little about Hannah:
Growing up in a home with a lot of animals - from cats and dogs to exotics, poultry and horses - Hannah decided she wanted to be a Veterinary Physiotherapist at the young age of 8 after seeing one in action on her own horse.

She qualified as a human Sports Massage Therapist and went on to obtain a BSc Degree in Veterinary Physiotherapy via the National Association of Veterinary Physiotherapists. She was then approved to be a member of the International Association of Animal Therapists.

Now, sheโ€™s joined the team at Finesse Hydrotherapy to enable us to offer all - encompassing care and rehabilitation for your beloved pets!

Hannah has a keen interest in dressage riding, hiking in the lake district and working on her marine fish tank.

If you would like to book a check over for your dog with Hannah, please contact us over message, email [email protected] or call us on 07538 842437 ๐Ÿ˜Š

Part 2 of the very exciting news...

Today we have had installed an underwater treadmill, courtesy of Hydro Physio ๐Ÿ˜

Another step in this crazy journey, and another thing I would have never believed to happen this time last year.

This enables us to take larger breeds and offer different treatment methods to suit each dog for a huge variety of rehab/treatment and sports/fitness needs!

We still have some work to do to get the room ready but we hope this wonโ€™t be too long. Donโ€™t forget consent forms are needed so if you want to get ahead of the game ask and we can make sure you are ready to go as soon as we are ๐Ÿ™‚

(Please excuse the state of the room, hopefully building work can finally commence and get this centre finally finished!)

Sassy was referred to us after suffering from sudden onset immune meditated polyarthritis. This caused a lot of muscle wastage, especially around her hind legs.

After 6 sessions of weekly hydrotherapy we are pleased to report she has gained 1cm of muscle growth on each shoulder, 1cm on the left thigh and 3cm on the right thigh (this has now made both hind legs even)

We are so pleased with Sassy's progress and hope she continues to get stronger each week ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

Meet Bramble - The Labrador that couldn't swim!

When she first came she wasn't a fan of the water and didn't like not being able to touch the floor, this is really common!

The problem with this is that when dogs panic they splash, causing their back end to sink, and unfortunately this is how they can drown when left unsupervised.

This is why hydrotherapy can help, as now Bramble absolutely loves swimming and has a really nice, safe technique. Her mum is hoping that in the summer she will now go and safely swim when they go to the lakes!

Bramble now just comes for fun and to keep her joints loose and has built some nice muscle that will keep her running around for as long as possible ๐Ÿถ

This is the lovely Callie who has been coming to us for hydrotherapy for elbow dysplasia

She is an absolute natural and swims like a pro, she was a little unsure at the start but I managed to get some kisses at the end!

We always take sessions at your dogs pace to make sure they're as happy as possible, there's always plenty of time so there's no rush if your dog needs time to adjust ๐Ÿถ

08/01/2022

This is Saffi, one of our dogs. She is a 12 year old rescue staffy x jack x collie, but she has a really long back and little legs, and due to her structure has gotten stiffer through her hips and stifles in the last few months.

I have previously been unable to swim her as she is not suitable for pool only, but now the adjustable internal platform is finished, she got to test it out!

She does not normally like water but as you can see the benefit of the platform is it gives water phobic dogs some confidence, and she looks super happy and comfortable here.

She certainly was a spring chicken when she woke up the next day and has been running around on her walks much more than usual - and that's why I love my job ๐Ÿ˜

Sorry we have been so quiet on here, we've been so busy ๐Ÿ˜

We now have a new and improved entry ramp into the pool which is much better and the dogs have approved!

The underwater platform is now height adjustable finally so can be used for all dogs shapes and sizes ๐Ÿถ

We get lots of enquiries about swimming which is fab, but please remember your dog needs one of our forms signed by the vet before they can swim. This is a super simple process and if you're having any trouble please contact us

Hopefully stage 2 of the building will be completed by the end of January... This will include a land based treadmill, shower and fitness area!

A very busy day! 1 rehab swim, 3 fitness/fun swims and still managed to squeeze 4 of my own dogs in!

Tactic, Fury & Carbon all play flyball and run in our top team, they train hard and it is essential they get time spent making sure they're in tip top condition and to keep an eye on any muscle niggles.

I treat everyone's dog like my own, and there is a lot more to hydrotherapy than just 'a swim'. If the dog is is not moving in a natural balanced motion your dog won't be getting the most out of the session.

Random movements/swimming techniques will provide some benefits because of the properties of water. But if you want to make a positive change to your dogs gait & muscle tone and provide a proprioceptively enriched session, they need to be moving with an aligned spine with front and rear legs in synchronisation and striding evenly.

Normal movement can vary in each dog especially breed will vary as different breeds have different conformational differences which link to their function and their natural behaviour, which directly affects their natural movement.

The efficiency of balance can be affected due to many factors including injury, body condition, breed or age which creates an inefficient loading pattern.

We do exercises whilst on rests which provide extra proprioceptive feedback, exercises to engage the core, passive stretches and massage!

Rio was the last of my dogs to swim, he is now retired from flyball but it is still just as important he gets the same attention! He has recently struggled with arthritis in his wrists and causes himself lick granuloma's. He's on a combination of anti-inflammatories, laser treatment, pulsed electro-magnetic field therapy and hydrotherapy and is responding really well. His lick granuloma is softening after 3 treatment sessions which is very positive as the anti-inflammatories themselves didn't help.

The most important thing is every dog will have different factors encorporated into their session to suit their individual needs. Please let me know if you have any questions about anything mentioned above ๐Ÿ˜Š

On this day 5 years ago we took our first supplier order of raw food in our little tiny shop. 3 upgraded shops later, 2 walk in freezers, 15 display freezers and 3 full time staff we are busier than ever!

I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everybody who has supported us over the last 5 years, and your continued support through the chaos! God knows where we'll be in 5 years ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Lots of questions about what your dog will wear in the pool!

We use the Ruffwear webmaster harnesses supplied to us by Mountain Dog Ltd ๐Ÿถ

We made the decision to not use flotation jackets as we feel it restricts movement for the dog in the water, I'd rather manually aid the dog if it needs any help with staying afloat.

They also allow for safe and controlled handling of the dog, without putting any pressure on the neck.

Any questions or concerns please feel free to drop me a message!

Bramble a lovely Labrador who Is coming for fun and fitness but also learning how to swim! She was very unsure at first, especially as she doesnโ€™t like harnesses, but we took our time and a lot of sweeties later the harness was on and she was in the pool!

This is Midget, Grace took her on 4.5 years ago as a palliative care rescue.. As you can see she's still doing good!

Grace quickly noticed something wasn't right, after investigations it was found she has chiari malformation (meaning skull her scull is too small so part of the brain herniates out) which affects balance. She also has dwarfism and joint dysplasia so she can't walk very far on land.

She can't walk very far due to her various issues, so swimming is a great way of giving her some non-weight baring exercise and give her some mobility around her joints and stimulates the neural pathways to her brain.

She still has the best life, Grace takes her all over the country (carried of course), has made it up several peaks, paddleboarded, so she never misses out on any adventure.. Oh and she rules to the roost!

This is the lovely Louie who came in for a fun/fitness session ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿพ

He's the biggest mummy's boy so it took some time for him to get comfortable, but we had a cuddle, got him in and he was soon settled!

Even though it's just for fun and fitness we CANNOT swim your dog without signed veterinary consent forms. We've had a lot of people expecting to turn up with their dogs. I have worked hard to gain my qualifications which means I can register with certain governing bodies. This gives you the reassurance that I am qualified in managing dogs safely in the water, I am first aid qualified, the water is correctly sanitised and safe, I am qualified to rehab orthopaedic conditions, I've been examined administering hydrotherapy to dogs for over 20 hours, and that every year I complete 20 hours of CPD to stay up to date with modern practices.

If you need any help with signing your forms, please do not hesitate to get in touch!

Thank you
