Dog Days Grooming

Well, we only smashed it!! 💫✨️ Huge thanks to everyone who donated and supported our 99k for @dogstrust challenge this month! We've thoroughly enjoyed getting the 40mph couch potato out of his little cave dwelling as the evenings are already getting lighter & I dare say he's enjoyed it too...! Mattie has also noticed the lighter evenings and he's finally on his way out of hibernation 🐕 Big pat on the back to all three of us. Yippee! ✌️

This first week has seen us complete 24km out of 99 and you have helped to raise £107 for Dog's Trust 🧡💛 Thank you all so much. We still have the rest of the month to cover more ground and hopefully bring in even more donations, but I wanted to use this video to say thank you to everyone who has contributed. Sometimes it can feel like we're all alone on this Earth and nothing & nobody can reach us, but we're all connected to a world that we can take for granted and, in desperate times, I think it's important to plant your feet on the ground. Nature will bring you back into your body 🌿

HANDSTRIPPING 🐾 This is a unique grooming technique that not many groomers offer as it can be lengthy, tiring and sometimes uncomfortable depending on the dog's tolerance. It's important that a groomer can determine when a dog is uncomfortable with handstripping so that the groom can be stopped and/or finished quickly, with recommendations to clip in future. For Eddie, this is no such case 😂 He loves it! I thought he would be the perfect boy to showcase the technique, so here are some important points 🧡 ◇ Handstripping is only available to double-coated breeds. This is because we are "stripping" the undercoat, not the topcoat. For single-coated breeds (e.g. Shih Tzus, Poodles, etc.) handstripping is not suitable and would severely damage their coat & skin, which is why we only clip those coats. Clipping double-coated breeds changes the texture and integrity of the coat almost indefinitely, which is why a groomer should NOT clip your double-coat unless absolutely necessary (e.g. extreme matting). ◇ Just because you CAN handstrip, doesn't always mean you should -- there are many factors that determine how suitable a dog is for handstripping. Some are less patient than others, some have skin issues that can be inflamed by the process, some have a lower pain tolerance than others, some are fine to have their backs stripped but are much more sensitive on their belly, legs and bum. These factors should all be taken into consideration when handstripping and the groomer must pay attention to all signs of discomfort in order to tailor the groom to the dog's best interests. This may mean a full handstrip, handstrip/scissor hybrid, a handstrip/de-shed combination, or even a half-finished handstrip with plans to bath & clip a few days later. ◇ In most cases, a de-shed is the less invasive, easier all-round and cheaper option. For example, we will not handstrip a Husky or German Shepherd due to the amount of work involved when a de-shed will do just as well

Duke loved his first luxury mud bath with ourselves 🧡 he has sensitive paws so we clipped his nails in the bath.
