Dogs must be working on Gun oil

Yesterday, Laura and Emily attended Found It Scent & Trail and Caroline’s Canine Club Halloween Scent and Man-trailing day!

They had lots of fun - getting scent off of “weapons”, finding the murderer and scenting different novel objects! 👻🎃

A huge CONGRATULATIONS to the participants of my 9.30am class at Ruthin Canine Society who passed their Good Citizen Bronze test this morning. They have worked so hard for this, and I am delighted for them all 😊

Bonfire Night may seem like forever away, but it’s just around the corner and us dog owners need to be aware of things we may need to set in place for our dogs to feel safe. Remember fireworks typically start at Halloween and end at New Year!

Plan Ahead: If you already are thinking about how to help your dog through firework season, you’ve already got this step! Make sure you put things in place before the fireworks begin otherwise the changes may overwhelm your dog!

Desensitisation: Gradually expose your dog to recorded firework sounds at a low volume whilst they are distracted maybe playing or having a chew. Gradually increase the volume over time until you are able to play it fairly loud and your dog not react. If your dog reacts, take it back a step as you’ve push them too far too quick! Create a Safe Space: Designate a quiet and dark area in your home. Use their bed or a crate with familiar blankets. Make sure they have the option to be alone or be with you!

Background Noise: Play calming music or the TV to help drown out the sound of fireworks.

Exercise: Take your dog for their exercise early in the day and don’t take them out near the time it goes dark - you could even stop walks for a few days if your dog is really anxious and provide mental stimulation instead! Remember sniffing is more powerful than a walk🐽

Calming Products: If your dog is really anxious - you may want to try some products. Anything medical based should be advised by a veterinary professional! But there are some natural products you can try! Remember to introduce these weeks in advanced - to make it familiar to the dog but also to allow the effects to kick in!

Pet Remedy - This is a calming spray/solution which can be used made of all natural ingredients. It comes in different formats from spray bottle to diffuser. You can use code ‘GCDTC25’ for 25% off their products online!

Calming supplement - One of our trainers has had success with the Verm-X calming powder. This is added to their food (and smells amazing) and again is made of all natural ingredients which help calm the dog. You can use code ‘COMPANION15’ for money off their products online!

We would never recommend products which we don’t have personal good experience with. Remember all dogs are different and will act different to products. So gradual introductions is best!

Remember your behaviour will also translate to your dog - so stay calm and try to keep as much routine as possible to prevent added stress!

🐾Foundation🐾
This class is perfect for those beginning on their dog training journey, whether you have a new dog joining the household or want to teach your older dog new tricks, this class is for you! The class includes all the important LifeSkills like; how to keep your dog's focus and attention, recall, walking nicely on a lead, play, impulse control, settling and more! We will also have lots of fun learning new tricks and skills.

💙Academy💙
This is a new class at Good Companion Dog Training Club, which will be specifically designed to progress on those basic life skills and progress on what you've already learnt. Great for puppies from our foundation going into adolescence, or dogs who join us with slightly more training experience. You will also delve into a variety of dog sports and Good Citizens exercises, to help you choose which training path you'd like to take.

This class is for those who have completed all their Kennel Club Good Citizens and achieved their Grade C. A class full of fun, testing your partnership with your dogs through fun and engaging challenges and games. This is a varied class which works towards in club awards.

🧡Parkour🧡
Embark in a class that combines athleticism, creativity and contentment. In this class, we'll explore the dynamic world of Dog Parkour UK - a dog activity which involves a variety of new tricks and implementing them in creative ways in either Natural, Urban or Built environments. This is a low impact sport suitable for any breed and age, as it can be adapted to suit your dog! Go up the levels in Dog Parkour UK with our certified instructors, and have fun building a bond with your dog!

Are you ready to unleash your dog's incredible sense of smell and tap into their natural instincts? In this class, you and your canine companion will discover the magic of scent work, a thrilling activity which taps into both physical and mental stimulation. Complete your Beginner, Constable, Sergeant and Inspector scent levels as well as fun challenges and games with our very own certified scent instructor!

📱Online Awards📱
We now offer online training awards which are fun and engaging. Delve into many different activities and fun challenges with your dogs that can all be done from your own home! These are offered monthly, or every couple of months!

Extra workshops and classes?
We also offer some one off classes and workshops focusing on different dog activities or behaviours so make sure to look out for these opportunities!
