Dogs are natural scavengers. It’s an inbuilt survival instinct that in modern times, and particularly in our homes, can cause serious issues for our pets when they ingest things they shouldn’t.

Foreign bodies are a regular cause for concern for owners here at . A foreign body is any non-food object that can’t pass through the gastrointestinal tract.

A more recent event was that of Ralph whose owner was worried because he hadn’t p**ped for 24 hours, was lethargic and wasn’t eating. All of this was out of character and alerted them to a problem.

Thankfully the team were quick to recognise the symptoms and after confirmation through an x-ray, operated to remove two large stones which he’d ingested.

Within a day he had started to eat and p**p and gradually improve over the next few days.

Catching the signs early is key to a positive outcome so if you are concerned that your pet may have eaten something they shouldn’t contact the team on 01772 639800 OR 01253 766352.

that stress has been identified as the most significant trigger for cat behavioral problems AND some common diseases?

There are two types of stress; acute and chronic. In acute stress the signs may be:

Immobility
Rapid breathing
Tail close to the body
Ears flattened back on the head
Hissing, growling.

Acute stress is usually in response to an unexpected event and is usually more obvious.

Chronic stress is much more difficult to recognise as it can develop and build over time. The signs may be:

Inappropriate urination or defecation.
Urine spraying indoors
Over grooming
Defensive aggression towards people or other cats.

What causes a cat stress is different for every cat. Sharing resources, such as litter trays or food, moving home, other pets or a large cat community are just some causes.
