πŸ“ΈπŸΎ A Big Thank You to Our Wonderful Clients! πŸΎπŸ“Έ

We had a fantastic few media days at our canine hydrotherapy centre, and we couldn't have done it without you!

On Saturday, we were open as usual, and we want to extend our gratitude to all our clients who let us take pictures and videos of their lovely dogs. Your cooperation made the day so special.

On Sunday, we were closed, but many of you still came in specifically for the photo and video sessions. We truly appreciate your support and enthusiasm.

Stay tuned, because we can't wait to share the final product with everyone soon! 🎬🐢✨

A special thank you to AV Visual and SplashReel who came in to capture these moments. Your expertise and hard work is invaluable.

Thank you again for being a part of our community. πŸ’™

🐾 Unleash the Benefits of Hydrotherapy for Your Pup! 🌊✨

Ever wondered about the magic of hydrotherapy for dogs? 🐢 Dive into the incredible perks that make a splash:

πŸ’¦ Low Impact Exercise:
Hydrotherapy offers a gentle workout that's easy on joints, making it perfect for our furry friends with arthritis or musculoskeletal conditions.

βš–οΈ Weight Management:
Swim sessions are a fun and effective way to help your pup shed those extra pounds. The buoyancy of water makes exercise enjoyable and promotes a healthy weight.

πŸ› οΈ Rehab After Surgery:
Post-surgery recovery is a breeze with hydrotherapy. Controlled movements in the water aid rehabilitation, allowing your dog to regain strength and mobility.

🧠 Mental Stimulation:
Dogs love the water! Hydrotherapy isn't just a physical exercise; it's a mentally stimulating experience that keeps your pup engaged and happy.

πŸ’ͺ Muscle Strengthening:
The resistance of water challenges muscles, helping your dog build strength without the impact of traditional exercises. It's a win-win for their fitness!

πŸš€ Cardiovascular Fitness:
Say goodbye to the traditional jog! Hydrotherapy enhances endurance by providing a full-body workout that engages your pup's cardiovascular system. From paddling to controlled movements, every splash contributes to a stronger and more resilient heart.

Consider hydrotherapy as a holistic approach to your dog's well-being! 🌟 Consult with your vet to see if hydrotherapy is the right fit for your furry companion. πŸ’™πŸΎ

🐾Calling all dog owners who have a dog that has attended hydrotherapy within the last 5 years🐾

Hello! I’m a registered veterinary nurse and I am conducting a research project for my BSc degree in veterinary nursing at the RVC. The aim of this project is to identify the owners perceived benefits hydrotherapy has had on their dog. I would be very grateful for anyone over 18 years old, that lives in the UK and has a dog that currently or has previous attended hydrotherapy within the last 5 years to take the time to complete my questionnaire. It should take no more than 5-10 minutes.

For those who complete the questionnaire, there is an opportunity to enter a random prize draw to win a Β£50 amazon voucher or the option to donate the money to an animal charity of your choice.

Thank you for your time!

We often hear of people who have stopped their dogs medication because they feel like it is no longer working.
But more often than not, this isn't true.... and by stopping the medication they have actually made things worse πŸ™

Arthritis is a condition that waxes and wanes- they can have good days and bad days, or even good weeks and bad weeks - so the medicaton "not working" could be due to a pain flare up in a bad week or due to an injury causing pain.

Plus arthritis is progressive - despite our best efforts it will eventually get worse over time and require changes in treatment accordingly - this may be additional therapies, new drugs, higher medication doses or more frequent medication - but what it is unlikely to need, is medications to be stopped, especially without your vets reccomendation!

If you think your dogs treatment isn't working, speak with your vet before changing anything! πŸ‘

Sittin' pretty! Lennie the Beagle during his veterinary physiotherapy session earlier this week, at Canine Therapies.

Lennie underwent hemilaminectomy surgery (to repair a 'slipped disc') last year. He has come on leaps and bounds since then although still gets a little wobbly at times, so his rehabilitation is ongoing to build strength and balance. Being a typical Beagle, you'll often find Lennie with his nose to the ground, following an invisible trail 🐾

More tips in our little change, big difference series!!

Today let's talk dinner time! πŸ˜‹

If your dog has neck pain or arthritis in the front legs then lowering their head to eat can actually be quite tricky... don't get me wrong, they'll still do it, because they have to, but you could make life easier and more comfortable by raising their bowl up a little!
You don't have to invest in any fancy equipment for this little change, a box or stool that you already have in the house can be enough to really help them out!

22/01/2021

Today we want to stray away a little from arthritis to talk about another pain causing disease.

Let's talk about Intervertebral disk disease (IVDD) 😧 - this is a very important disease to consider in certain breeds, such as Dachshunds, French Bulls dogs or Shih Tzus for example if they present with lameness or sudden loss of the use of one or more legs.

The spinal chord is surrounded by bones with discs of cartilage between each bone which act as a cushion and allow flexibility of the spinal column. If part of these cartilage discs can become damaged or more brittle over time then they can protrude upwards and press on the spinal chord cutting off the information travelling from the brain to the legs.

You can help to reduce the risk of this life threatening condition in your dog by:
🐾 Keeping them at a healthy weight.
🐾 Avoid the use of stairs.
🐾 Stop them jumping on and off furniture or out of the boot of the car.
🐾 Reduce excessive twisting forces on the back by not allowing frequent repetitive exercises like ball chasing.
🐾 Wait for your dog to fully mature before getting them neutered (unless there is another medical reason to do so).
🐾 The disease can be inherited in some cases so don't breed from dogs with a know issue and ensure to ask about the condition in the dogs line when buying a puppy.
