⭐️ The Winter Training Series ⭐️

*** 2 spaces left ! Booking details below ***

A big part of the Winter Training Series is about the 6 private 45 minute lessons that take place at Froxfield Stud, Hampshire

Not only will you be in the warm 20x60m indoor away from the wind and rain, but each session has a specific focus to keep you progressing and never feeling like you are getting stuck on a specific problem.

⭐Session 1: Position Day

This is all about getting you the correct, balanced secure seat youve always wanted and fixing any position issues you feel you have (whether thats wobbly handly, a leg that wont be still, or youre struggling with your sitting trot!)

⭐Session 2: Way Of Going & Paces Day

This is all about improving your horses way of going, whether thats getting them more forward; reducing tension or getting that soft, elastic, even contact youve always wanted!

⭐Session 3: Suppleness Day

Whether youve always dreamed of getting your horse on the bit or youre always being told you need more bend on your circles or your wanting to really get to introducing or improving your lateral work.

⭐Session 4: Test Riding Skills

This session is all about you riding your corners correctly and setting your horse up and preparing them to be able to do a movement correctly. This is one of the most important sessions and makes probably the most different to a riders test and score!

⭐Session 5: Accuracy Day

Whether its your centre lines, your circles or a specific movement; your accuracy can be the difference between a 4 and an 8!

⭐Session 6: Test Riding Day

We put everything we have learnt together and run through a test of your choice, receive feedback on where you could improve your marks further. This is a perfect way to prepare and get ready for your first competition of the year!

Lessons will run from 3rd November to 26th January (if you cant make certain dates we can alter / adjust to suit you)

We only have 6 spaces for the Winter Training Series and already 4 people have joined so there are only 2 spaces left!

I was having a really interesting conversation with another coach recently about how important it is for a coach to be able to read and quickly ascertain how our riders are feeling at the beginning of a lesson.

This has been super prominent recently as children and teachers have been going back to school; and everyone is back to work after the summer. Plus the dark nights and recent huge bouts of wet weather are definitely starting to already take their toll.

So during this conversation we spoke about our role as coaches within this transition. Its probably not often talked about but i genuinely feel that a big part of my role as a coach is to be able to quickly work out where my client is at mentally (and physically) on the day they come for their lesson.

- Are they in a mentally resilient place or have they had a lot going on this week ?
- Are they tired, stressed, burnt out or perhaps going through something i don't even know about that is taking its toll on them.

This is going to totally change how i approach the lesson. It wouldn't be a great decision to decide to do a pressure filled test riding session, hyper focus on a positional issue or introduce a new movement to a horse and rider on a day when i can tell my rider is mentally at capacity. But equally, i still want to make sure my rider is getting the most out of their lesson, still learning and progressing and developing in their skills and knowledge.

It then raises an interesting question: if you are a rider going for a lesson and know you aren't necessarily in the best place mentally, you might be tired, had a crazy week at work, had a bad week of training with your horse or maybe havent been able to ride at all. Would you cancel your lesson? Would you let your instructor or coach know how you were feeling? Would you stay quiet and just try to power through?

This is for all my riders worrying about making a mistake in a test!

This week i have had a few riders test riding and what kept coming up was the question:

✨'what do i do if i make a mistake' ✨

Its a question that i think a lot of riders think about and spend A LOT of time worrying about too. Whether you're worried you might forget your test or get a movement wrong; or you're worried about your horse spooking or you're worried about a specific movement you've had trouble with at home.

Hopefully, this article with give you some things you could try to help alleviate that anxiety and, importantly, give you a few things to try to give you a plan and get that test back on track.
