I can’t thank everyone for an amazing year! It’s been a crazy year, and I’ve loved having all your dogs in the salon. And your support after welcoming Lili Mai into the world. It’s not being easy juggling a business and a baby but your support this year as really helped me along the way. And everyone understanding with the slow replies 🩷 I have the best clients.

I love a good before and after 😍 I just want to say a massive massive thank you to everyone who’s supported before and after Lili arriving. I won’t lie I was so scared of the future of my little business that I’ve worked so hard for in the last 5 years. Lili’s been absolutely spoilt from everyone as well from her well wishes to gifts! But I simply have the best clients 🩷 and I can’t thank you all enough!

Let’s discuss matting and clipping dogs short!
I’m a member of a few cockapoo/ doodle Facebook groups and one of the hottest topic is “my groomer has taken my dog too short” and most of the time in the comments people are saying “name and shame” “get a refund” or “that groomer is lazy”! As a groomer I really don’t enjoy taking dogs short when they’re matted, I always want to please the owner but unfortunately this isn’t always possible when the dogs coat isn’t in the best condition. Brushing or matts can be painful and uncomfortable for dogs, which can cause brush burn, skin irritation, sores and damage the coat. And can cause problems for your dog visiting the groomers in the future.
Now with the lazy comment. This is far from the truth. Working with a matted dog needs to be done slow and steady. We’re working very close to the dogs skin with no room to work with, clipping with a sharp blade and working with a moving animal. At the start of each groom I always check over the dog to see if theirs any scabs, warts or anything that could be caught. Unfortunately when a dog is matted they can sometimes be missed therefore we have to keep an eye out for anything that can be caught with the clippers.
And as we’re working very close to the dogs skin with a metal blade we have to make sure the blade is cool at all times. A hot blade can burn the dogs skin, so regularly checking and changing blades is so important.
As the groom can be very full on for the dog, breaks are very important!
So if you’re ever upset with your groomer for taking your dog short please remember they aren’t doing to for an easy and quick groom. We’re doing it for the best for your dog. I will always put the dogs welfare and comfort first. All dogs deserve to be happy and comfortable before style 🩷
