A small stab in the heart is what you feel when you put up the day's riding list and you see riders sinking heavily in their shoulders when reading which horse they are assigned for the lesson. A small stab in the heart for that horse that for an hour will carry around a rider who has already decided that he does not like his horse. A small stab in the heart for the horse that did not choose the rider himself but still does his best, lesson after lesson.

Riding is a privilege and something you have chosen to do. If you chose to ride at a riding school, your instructor assumes that you actually want to learn how to ride. The instructor's highest wish is that you get good at it.

Often there is a plan and a thought as to why you are assigned to that exact horse. Before you mount up next time, ask yourself "what can this horse teach me today?" All horses have something to give, a feeling or a new tool in the box.

The art is actually in being able to get a lazy horse to move forward, to get an uncertain horse to gain confidence, a naughty horse to focus or a tense horse to be released. It takes work. If you think a horse is boring, it's more likely that you don't ride the horse as well as you think! It's not easy to be confronted with your own shortcomings, but it is in that very situation that you get the chance to truly grow as a rider.

The excuse that "it's not my kind of horse" is actually a really bad excuse. A good rider can ride any kind of horse. A good rider has trained many hours on different types of horses to become a good rider. A good rider can find and manage the gold nuggets in every horse.

If we absolutely want to ride, it is our duty to strive to do it as best as possible, even if it's only for fun. We owe it to every horse that carries us upon it's back.

We encourage all our riders capable of jumping to come and take advantage of this opportunity on one of our fabulous horses or ponies if you do not have your own.

We would like to welcome our newest Instructor to the HLRC team. Hannah started riding at our Manchester centre age 9years as a complete beginner, alongside her mum as a returner rider. Hannah developed a passion for Showjumping and has had successful competition portfolio on her horse Valentino. Valentino was purchased from us as a talented 12year old, but a late starter- hannah has been his only competitive rider & produced him to national level. He is now 21 and still competing, rarely coming home without a win. They are only a few wins off becoming a grade B show-jumper, which is a huge achievement between studies and developing a career. Hannah left 5 years ago to complete her Equine performance and business management degree at Hartbury college. Inbetween her studies she also completed her teaching qualifications & built up a client base in Gloucester, coaching mainly showjumping. Hannah will be available to teach all abilities in PRIVATE OR SEMI-PRIVATE lessons on a Monday daytime subject to demand. Please contact the booking line to register your interest. 07584 823040

Earlier this week, we had Sophie competing at the British Showjumping Club and Schools Final at Stoneleigh Park! Competing against some strong combinations, Sophie bagged a 6th place in her 60cm Club Final, in her first A7 class too🎉

Sophie also had some lovely rounds in her 60&70cm School Final as well as a 70cm Club Final, learning over 5 different courses, including jump offs💪🏻🏆

Sophie also represented the British Showjumping Bristol & Somerset (48) for the Academy where she had two lovely rounds again🤩

🎉Special shout out for Sophie, winning the Pullin Equestrian award from school! It’s the first time the school has done something like this so Sophies name shall be the first to be engraved on the trophy and put on display!🏆

Amazing recognition from her school for all her achievement’s which she continues to progress with!🤩

Interesting first day, experienced the lows and the highs of showjumping all in one day😅

Aaliyah Kerr & Sully 7th&4th in the 85cm&90cm, great way to start off with two really nice double clears🙌🏻

Little ginge gave me some sand to eat in our first class but then redeemed himself with a 1st in the 1m open🤩

Two boys happy and enjoying their time in the sunshine ready to take on the rest of the week🐴😁

Don’t get so fixated on the result (the height), focus more on the process (the quality of canter, the line, the balance) and the result is exactly that, a result😊
