I hope everyone is managing ok with their dogs grooming and staying safe.
So with the Government’s announcement today I have started to take bookings for Mid March onwards.
Spaces are limited and filling up quickly so if you know you usually book your dog a Spring pamper please get in touch soon to avoid any disappointment.

The new guidelines issued for dog groomers have caused myself and many in the grooming industry a lot of anxiety to ensure we are doing the right thing to support lockdown, to protect our families, to support and protect you our clients and to ensure your dogs welfare is not compromised.
As a guide we have to ask whether delaying grooming for a few weeks will affect the dogs welfare. In most cases I have cancelled your grooming appointments as it will not. In every case without exception I have received support and understanding. Thank you
I will be requesting pictures and videos to support a decision to groom for welfare reasons or request a vet referral so the decision to groom for welfare is supported.
Where a welfare groom has been agreed strict handover procedures as per the cfsg guidelines will be adhered to for Covid safety .
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you are unsure if your dog can wait til post lockdown or have any questions at all I can assist with.
As soon I know when lockdown restrictions will be eased I will be contacting everyone to arrange your dogs appointments.

Lockdown Update
The Government has said in its lockdown legislation grooming is allowed for welfare but not aesthetic purposes.
As your professional groomer what is considered to be welfare will be for me to decide based on the guidelines from industry bodies who interpret the law I have today received from Pif, CFSG and Somerset Trading Standards.
I will make a decision to groom on a case by case basis referencing the following guidelines
- If a dog is referred by a vet. An email can be sent directly to me.
- If a dog has skin issues or health issues which regular grooming has previously proved to help the dog to be more comfortable
- if a dog is currently matted and as such suffering
- If your dog is having problems to see and you do not feel safe trimming the eyes yourself and the hair is at a length the dog is struggling to see or could cause eye damage.
- If your dog has problems with sticking faeces on its bottom they will not let you remove.
- If your dog will not let you groom it and you are at risk of being bitten or If there is a risk of your dog coming to harm if you self groom as it can not wait.
- If your dog’s nails need cutting. I will require photographs to assess I consider it necessary.
- If your dog has matts between it’s toes and in it’s feet which will cause sores.
- If your dog’s ears need regular attention to prevent infections but the dog will not allow you near them
- If a dog has a coat type that matts very quickly then I will assess if it is likely to matt to the level to cause suffering before we are out of lockdown or will be matted to a level that grooming will cause suffering And so grooming will be necessary to prevent un-necessary suffering or welfare issues.
- In most cases as it is only weeks until Lockdown is due to end I think most grooms can wait but if you believe your dog can not I would ask for pictures of the dog and the issue so I am able to professionally asses the urgency of each case and keep evidence that backs up my decision to groom
Unfortunately the legislation does not define enough to make a clear cut decision so if grooming is to take place during lockdown the above needs to be met to ensure I am able to make the correct welfare decision for your dog and stand by it.
I am sorry I have had to postpone grooms I do not consider to be welfare but I promise once restrictions have lifted I will be working hard to fit the dogs back in.
I would highly recommend pre booking for post lockdown to avoid disappointment.

What a fantastic start to 2021 at Tower House Grooming.
Banjo and Flossie were both very hairy and a bit knotty so both qualify for grooming under the regulations.. They both have back dew claws that need cutting so they don’t become ingrown and both needed knots between their toes removed to prevent soreness. Feeling ready to tackle that mud now 😉😍
Tower House Grooming is in Mendip so is in Tier 4. Groomers are able to remain open as per government advice. Please see below.

Hope you are all enjoying your holidays. We have been doing lots of lovely walking over this holiday. We all got a bit cold today and all enjoyed a well deserved snooze in front of the fire afterwards 🥰
It seems appropriate my last groom of the year is Piper. A timid little girl who has worked so hard with me on her fears and continues to do so well.
It has been a tremendously difficult year for so many of us. Thank you so much for your understanding and support so we have always found a way. Seeing you all and grooming and learning from your dogs is wonderful. I am extremely grateful we have been able to work around COVID and thank you for all your efforts to make that happen this year.
We have said goodbye to some dear souls my lovely cedric my good friend Freddie, sweet petal and others who will, as I tell my daughter, be very missed but always on our journey in our hearts. I have been so lucky with your recommendations to meet some amazing new dogs and owners too and look forward to working with them in the New year.

Gorgeous Heidi had her regular pamper today ready to see Santa. So effortlessly beautiful isn’t she ❤️
I got a call from Boris’s mummy. He is 8 months old and has previously shown aggression at his groomers. I know his mummy and I groom his sister so I said I would have a look at him.
What I discovered is this clever little dog knew exactly where his Matt’s were and was trying to communicate not to touch them. The conclusion I deduced was where mummy had asked to keep him long and fluffy groomers had tried to dematt him as requested but it caused him discomfort. As a result he has felt he needs to express very clearly he doesn’t want the matts touched.
I have requested regular 6 weeks grooming so we keep the coat short and hopefully in time he will not practise the behaviour and it will fade out as he becomes happier and more positive about his grooming. Please all send him lots of love and luck ❤️
