We are located between the lovely villages of Chilcompton and Emborough and are set back from the road, in converted stables. We offer canine behaviour counselling and a wide range of grooming services to suit every dog and budget. It is our wish that each dog (and owner!) has a pleasant, stress-free experience. Michele Bentley has owned and worked with dogs for over 30 years and founded her groom

ing business in 2009, having trained intensively at “Perros Si” in Andalucia, Spain. She has since combined these skills with her understanding of canine handling and body language, to create a more holistic approach to grooming; resulting in calmer, happier dogs. The state-of-the-art converted stable salon and sensory garden enables Michele to offer a bespoke grooming experience, to cater to each dog’s individual needs. The relaxed and peaceful environment is particularly suited to puppies and shy or nervous dogs. The hydro bath is great for all dogs but especially beneficial for older dogs and those suffering from arthritis and hip problems. We use natural and organic shampoos and conditioners (so no nasty chemicals on your dog or in the environment) and we are delighted to be using the locally made “Wild Wash” products, from the clever folks that gave us humans the “Cowshed” range. Michele has participated in workshops in Reiki for Animals and Tellington Touch methods and has recently completed two years working with Sheila Harper at the IDBTS (international Dog Behaviour and training School). This included in-depth work in canine behaviour and body language, stress reduction, lead-handling skills and behaviour counselling. Michele has since been invited to attend the advanced course, now named IPACS, (International Programme for Applied Canine Studies) which is part time over two years and commences in Jan 2015. In conjunction with her holistic dog work, Michele is also studying with Caroline and Thomas Ingraham at The Ingraham Academy of Zoopharmacognosy, in Bristol. Applied Zoopharmacognosy enables domestic animals to self-medicate with natural plants and essential oils, as they do in the wild. For more information on this please look at www.ingraham.co.uk

Michele has worked at several dog rescue centres (including www.carefordogs.org in Chiang Mai, Thailand) and volunteers as an RSPCA adoption home visitor for Bath Cats and Dogs Home. She currently lives with four dogs, two cats, five chickens and one very patient husband! These provide the blueprint for appearance, temperament and behavior. This is why a Jack Russell looks and acts like a Jack Russell, and a Labrador looks and acts like a Labrador. If you want a dog that will look and act like a Labrador, you are going to need to choose a Labrador, not a Jack Russell...

I think everyone knows how important sniffing is for dogs but just in case.....

Most walk their dogs everyday- sometimes you just need to get them out before going to work and other times you want to take them somewhere 'good' but your dog has other ideas and wants to sniff along the way. Sniffing takes time - well sniffing is important so if you can then let them! There are numerous reasons they do this and checking in on daily PMail is one! don't fret- make the most of it and let them enjoy their walks and catch up on what's going on.

We are delighted to confirm the dates and times of two talks with Sally Gutteridge. For those who don't already know, Sally is the principal and founder of Canine Principles (www.canineprinciples.co.uk) and the author of many books, including; "Canine Communication (the language of a species"), "Enrichment Through Scentwork for Highly Aroused Dogs", "The Senior Dog Wellness Guide" and "Dog Professional's Survival Guide".

This is a brand-new seminar, based on one of her recent books, "Inspiring Resilience in Fearful and Reactive Dogs"
Sally will provide more detailed information on the talk soon.

It will be a fantastic opportunity to spend four "close-up and personal" hours with Sally and to ensure everyone feels involved and thoroughly benefits from the talk, we are keeping numbers strictly limited.

SAT 14th SEPT 2019. Refreshments from 9.30am, talk from 10am - 2pm. £35 per attendee. The first talk will be aimed at dog owners/guardians/caregivers and those who would really like more in-depth knowledge in order to help their dogs, explained in ways everyone can understand and put into practice

SUN 15th SEPT, 2019. Refreshments from 9.30am, talk from 10am-2pm. £35 per attendee. The second talk is for anyone who works with dogs or already has a fair bit of knowledge in dog behaviour. It is suitable for trainers, behaviour counsellors, dog walkers and boarders and especially, people working in a rescue environment.

There is parking on site and refreshments will be provided. This is a "human only" event but there is a secure field to exercise your dog(s) if you need to bring them.

I am thrilled to announce two seminars with Sally Gutteridge, based on her book "Inspiring Resilience in Fearful and Reactive Dogs".

They will be held on the weekend of 14th and 15th September, 2019. The first (Sat 14th Sept,10am - 2pm) is geared towards dog owners and the second, (Sun 15th Sept 10am - 2pm) will be for dog professionals (in all capacities).

The seminars will be held here at Bentley Holistic Dogs.
Further information to follow shortly but as there will be limited numbers, please feel free to register interest in advance of ticket purchasing opening.

Whether this is your first puppy or you have had several dogs but would like a refresher..... come along and learn how to raise your ideal puppy, using modern techniques and positive reinforcement. We will be starting "officially" in the new year but will be beginning our first course over the next couple of weeks. Puppy socialisation/play session (free) in Chilcompton, on Sat 8th Sept, 3pm-3.45pm. Puppies must be under 16 weeks. The session will be carefully supervised by an experienced puppy trainer/canine behaviour counsellor. The session is in a safe classroom (floor washed with anti-parvo disinfectant etc) but puppies must have had their first core vaccination (at least a week previously). Puppies can be carried from car into classroom and no unvaccinated dogs have been in the area. I have one friendly 10 week old Labrador who will be joining in.... all breeds welcome. Let's all try to get animal cruelty sentences to reflect the horror inflicted on these poor animals. At present the maximum custodial sentence is just 6 months (you can get up to 5 years for fly-tipping!)

The maximum sentence for animal cruelty in England and Wales is six months and in Scotland it is one year. Help Battersea increase it to five years.

Thank you to Pippa for a great scent workshop today... everyone really enjoyed it! We are looking at a monthly class with Pippa (on a Saturday afternoon) and will confirm dates soon.

In the meantime, we have some dates for "practice sessions" to work on and reinforce skills already learnt. These will be on Sundays from 11am-12.30pm and we will be working as a group, hiding scents for each other etc, so that we have proper time set aside to work with our dogs. We ask for a £3 contribution each session, towards heating etc... teas, coffees and biscuits included.
Available dates as follows: (sorry have had to change dates so they are not immediately after a session with Pippa... busy time of year! More dates available from May onwards!)

There may be other days but I am just waiting for confirmation back from Pippa re her Sat class dates;

Anyone who would like to come along, just let me know which ones you can make... we will keep it a nice small group so each dog gets plenty of chance to work!

Good afternoon Soggy Doggos!

Did any of you manage to get out on adventures over the very soggy weekend?

We have exciting news! We are very pleased to announce not one but 3!!! Yes 3!! New venues across the country where you will be able to come and splash with us this summer!

First up we have a very special announcement and one we've been desperate to tell you all about for some time now! We were woofstatic to be asked to join Woofstockuk in Dartmouth from the 16th-19th August. The ultimate weekend for all things dog! There will be fun dog shows, demonstrations, "pawsome displays", lots of doggy shopping stalls to browse, live music each evening and lots of licensed bars and food stalls across a 13 acre site. Secondly we have a first time event for Early Paws Doggie Day Care in Sutton Weaver, Runcorn! We will be onsite with them from the 30th August through to their fun day on the 1st September which looks like it will be an amazing day. Thirdly...if you're still with us this far you're definitely a committed Soggy Doggo! We will be in Somerset for the weekend of 20th-22nd September for another first time event at the stunning Bentley Holistic Dogs site just outside of Bath in Somerset! This one will be a new and very unique experience for us at a holistic dog retreat which offers alternative holistic therapies for your canine companion in a beautiful surrounding with an on site doggy friendly retreat we can't wait to see and report back to you about!

We are also putting bookings in the diary already for 2020 so it's never too early to get in touch for a chat if you're considering asking us to join you for an event!

This is all in addition to our regular sites in Bedford and Warrington! Also *hint hint* Bedford Soggy Doggos keep an eye on the page tomorrow for exciting news ;)

Thank you for the fantastic hour in your secure field, the dogs loved it and so did we. They had a great time exploring all the new scents in the sensory garden, and cooling off with a dip in the paddling pool.
Thank you again Michele for another brilliant groom for Lottie and Mabel, two very happy, relaxed pups who look and smell beautiful. Totally worth the 44mile round trip! Wouldn't take them anywhere else, wonderful every time!
