Rosie has been joining us twice a week for rehabilitation following a femoral head and neck excision (FHNE) due to Legg Calvé Perthes disease; a condition where poor blood supply to the ‘ball’ part of the hip joint results in necrosis of the femoral head leading to a stiff and very painful joint.

After the femoral head and neck has been removed, fibrous tissue fills the space and forms a ‘false’ joint. Hydrotherapy post surgery helps to encourage use of the limb, strengthen the false joint and builds muscle mass back up in a controlled environment.

Heidi is fairly new to flyball and is part of the flyball team.
She's been attending hydrotherapy around 8 months to help with conditioning, muscle mass and cardiovascular fitness. She's recently recorded a PB and is part of the team that set a new club record. Fingers crossed we'll be seeing her at next year Go Heidi 🙌🥰

Our Sunday squad modelling their dry robes!

First up is Dave who joins us to help conservatively manage his elbow dysplasia and osteoarthritis. Next is Otis who comes along for weight loss and OA management. Last but not least Bronson, his time in the pool helps to aid his mobility in his senior years and conservatively manage his generalised OA.

Freddie is joining us to build up his confidence in the water - he enjoys a paddle out and about but had never actually been swimming until his first session here. It didn't take long for him to realise how much fun he could have in the pool 😄!

Slinky has joined us following a mini hemilaminectomy due to Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD). IVDD is a degenerative condition however certain breeds with shorter legs and longer backs (chondrodystrophic breeds such as the Dachshund) can suffer from disc problems at a younger age.

Hydrotherapy can help to restore muscle function with the buoyancy of the water supporting the patient and allowing for effective exercise to take place. As the pool is heated to a therapeutic temperature (28-31 degrees Celsius) this can help improve circulation and blood flow whilst hydrostatic pressure provides a source of relief for any discomfort present and assists in swelling reduction.

Apollo joins us on a weekly basis for some non-weight bearing exercise to help maintain his muscle mass in the hind limbs without putting stress on his hip joints. He has previously had a total hip replacement surgery (THR) when he was younger and he has hip dysplasia on the other side to a milder degree.

Who's ready for some adorable puppy dog eyes 😍
Cody has been coming along to sessions with her big sister Becca for some exposure and confidence building. The amount of swimming we can do is restricted due to age but it's the perfect time to get her comfortable in the water and confident in the environment for the future; and she's doing amazingly!

Sending all our love to Millie's family ❤️ Sleep tight beautiful girl, Wednesdays won't be the same without you and your little happy hops 🌈

It was wonderful getting to know you & your lovely family and I hope that we helped you feel free and young again when you where kicking those little legs in the pool. I know you don't need me to tell you but you fell on your feet with a family like that - one of the lucky ones ❤️
