❤️Introducing Alfie❤️

Alfie's owners noticed he was not himself when he couldn't get up from the floor when they returned home from work a couple of weeks ago so took him straight to Vets Now. Alfie has been with his owners since coming over from Turkey in 2017, he is now a very distinguished older boy at nearly 13 years old.
Following his visit to VetsNow Alfie came to us the next morning to continue his treatment, at this point he was a very poorly boy 💔
Alfie was diagnosed with pancreatitis and came into us every day for i/v fluid therapy and treatment for the remainder of the week. Initially he was refusing all food - a sure sign something is wrong with a Golden Retriever! After a couple of days Mum managed to get him to eat a tiny bit of chicken and our nurses continued tempting him and hand feeding him the following day. On the third day Alfie's appetite returned with avengeance and he was eating his food with gusto!
Alfie is a super special boy and was so brave throughout his treatment, we're so glad he is feeling better. He has continued to recover well at home since and we were so happy to receive the following update this morning. ❤️

Good morning,
I have just realised that I didn’t respond to the email below about Alfie’s ultrasound report. We are, of course, over the moon that there was no sinister underlying issues that caused his illness, we will continue to keep a close eye on him and all non low fat treats (not that there were many!) have been stopped.
He has continued his recuperation very well and is now completely back to his normal self – perhaps even better than he was!
We would like to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for the love, care and dedication you showed to him whilst he was so unwell. Looking back we definitely thought we were going to lose him and our hearts were breaking. It was truly wonderful to see how each staff member we interacted with was so genuinely thrilled to see him responding to the treatment, so thank you.
Best wishes,
Linsey, Stuart and lots of tail wags from Alfie. xx

Teddy came to see Lydia the vet today for his 2nd vaccination and check up.
Teddy's parents used to see Lydia with their previous dog, Kane, who they lost heartbreakingly young and unexpectedly.
Teddy is here to help heal their hearts and he's certainly keeping them busy!
Teddy's mum and dad signed up to the PHC which covered the cost of his vaccinations today.
Teddy was the best behaved boy and we look forward to seeing him grow 🐾❤️

💚Considering a career in Veterinary Nursing and would like to know more?💚

Veterinary nursing is the supportive care of animals receiving treatment within a veterinary practice. A veterinary nurse works as a member of the veterinary team, providing expert nursing care for sick animals.
Veterinary nurses also play a significant role in educating owners on maintaining the health of their pets. They carry out technical work and are skilled in undertaking a range of diagnostic tests, medical treatments and minor surgical procedures, under veterinary direction.

The day-to-day job of a veterinary nurse will vary but responsibilities may include;

-Preparing patients for surgical procedures
-Providing support to animals and their owners before and after operations
-Assisting in the operating theatre as a scrubbed veterinary nurse
-Carrying out veterinary nurse consultations
-Administering medications and fluid therapy to patients
-Observing and recording patients' vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration and pain)
-Applying bandages to wounds and fractures
-Educating animal owners on nutrition and preventative care and providing basic behavioural advice
-Assisting during emergency procedures
-Carrying out a range of diagnostic tests in the practice laboratory (e.g blood samples, urine samples)
-Taking radiographs
-Dispensing medication and demonstrate to owners how to use them
-Supporting and managing teams

Poor little Skye was brought in to us 10 days ago after an accident at home, she was non weight bearing on her paw and her owner thought a paving slab may have fallen on her 💔 She was admitted for x-rays which showed she had a fractured toe! She had a bandage applied which requires changing twice a week and we will repeat x-rays after 4 weeks to see how she is healing. Skye has been a little treasure to treat and at today's appointment the nurses decided to personalise her bandage ❤️

This is Buck, Buck came to see Lydia the vet for his annual vaccination and health check. Buck was an extremely good boy for his check up and enjoyed all our treats and cuddles. He had just got back from the lake district with his family where he'd climbed his first ever mountain! Mum said he was so tired after he didn't walk for 2 days! 🐾🐾

As Buck is a member of our Pet Health Club his health check and vaccinations was all covered under his plan today 😊

Meet Sooty!
Sooty was seen by vet Lydia after showing some changes in her urinary pattern, at her appointment Lydia could palpate something abnormal in her abdomen that needed to be investigated. An ultrasound scan and x-rays showed there to be some uroliths (bladder stones) in Sooty's bladder as seen in the photos below. Sooty was booked in for surgery with vet Hannah a few days later and as you can see 2 bladder stones were successfully removed. We are glad to say at her post operative check today, Sooty has recovered incredibly well and will stay on a special diet now to prevent the stones recurring!

This handsome boy Dudley came in yesterday for dentistry under general anaesthetic 🦷
While here for his annual health check and vaccinations on the 4th March we noticed he had a build up of plaque and tartar on his upper molars so he was booked in for dentistry before he developed any further problems. As you can see in his before and after pictures he now has a beautiful set of pearly whites again and did not need any extractions. Dudley recovered beautifully afterwards and is back to his usual self at home this morning ❤️

As a Pet Health Club member Dudley's owners got 10% off the cost of dentistry too!
