Down to my beautiful boy passing away over the weekend. We are deeply saddened to announce the closure of Barking Mad Dog Training Centre It has been an incredible journey, and we are so grateful for your kind support, loyalty, and love over the years.

The Right Way to Use a Slip Lead + Why a Backup is Essential

Slip leads are a fantastic tool for dog training and walks when used properly, but it’s important to ensure they’re used safely to keep your dog secure and comfortable.

Here are some key tips for using a slip lead the right way:

1️⃣ Choose a Slip Lead with a Lock
A slip lead with a locking mechanism is crucial. The lock keeps the loop secure and prevents the lead from tightening too much, protecting your dog from choking or discomfort.

2️⃣ Practice Makes Perfect
If you’re new to using a slip lead, take your time to learn the right technique. Once you’re confident and experienced, slip leads can become an excellent tool for calm and controlled walks.

3️⃣ Always Have a Backup
Even with a properly fitted slip lead, it’s smart to have a secondary safety attachment as a backup. This could be a carabiner or secondary lead attached to your dog’s harness or collar. This ensures your dog stays secure even if the slip lead comes loose unexpectedly.

Little Home Visit Today,🏡🐾

Today we worked on lead control and
reactiveness towards other dogs on a walk, but after one lesson, we made so much progress! We walked past multiple different dogs and like I always say to dog owners, I am only here to show you that it’s possible and you can do it! Controlling bad behaviour on walks takes both the dog and the owner working together! We can’t wait to hear how they’re getting on 😁🐾

🐾 A Quick Visit from Sandy Fox! 🐾

Today, the beautiful “Sandy Fox” stopped by for just an hour of training, but wow—she sure made an impact! This sweet rescue girl xx❤️

Even in that short time, her gentle soul and big heart shone through. Rescue dogs like Sandy remind us why we’re so passionate about what we do. If only they could talk, imagine the stories they’d tell!
