“Topaz” now learning to canter and develop his own forward balance. For me doing this out hacking in the forrest is a great way to teach them early on to be forward thinking, you can see him changing legs feeling the ground conditions. Love this track with the added water elements! Such a bold young horse, by the time we come round to doing some light schooling in an arena he will be naturally forward and light. #3yrsold #youngeventhorse
Day spent training with the coaches from PMP “Performance Mentoring Programme” with Caroline Moore Event Coach, Ros Canter Eventing & Nick Turner. Discussions, ideas and eye for detail was the theme of the day. Also love riding with my buddy Kylie !!! #PMP
Autumn walks with “Topaz” the 3 yr old. Learning confidence and basic aids for ridden work next year. #watchthisspace #youngeventhorse
“First Hack” took the plunge today to ride up and out the driveway! Using a calm lead horse to give confidence, from early on I like to establish the basic voice aids and light leg aid to teach start & stop. It’s so important at this stage you have the horse established from your voice and your natural aids remain light, even if the horse does not respond repeat the aid never ride with a stronger aid. Remember the horse always feels you they need to understand the question. It’s at this point you can train a horse that is switched off to aids if applied too strongly. Kudos to my daughter who is a brilliant training partner on her young horse she is trianing, sourced from @bratwellequine 🙌🏼 #youngeventhorse #nextgeneration
New Office View! After several weeks of building trust today felt right to have a quiet sit on board, such a special moment when you have that first feel and first view of the head & neck ! Really excited about “Topaz”#youngeventhorse
“Long Lining” a brilliant was to establish some basics and give some goal posts before the rider is on board. The ability to move forward independently from being lead, responding to the voice aid, light touches with the lines to create a feel for the leg and the start of contact. The foundations for ridden work! #youngeventhorse #britishhorsesociety
Time for the Rider to Learn 👨🏻🎓.Today it was my turn for learning, yesterday was all about the youngsters and this session was the wonderful “Shanti” helping me develop the feel for 1 time changes !!! Homework, softer knee, sit quieter, less of a leg aid ….. and learn to count 🫣 what a wonderful horse to train on, real joy. #roadtograndprix #eventerdoesdressage
