Happy Solstice - the evenings start to get longer from today, we have got through the recent cold snap, albeit at some points with only one working tap. The liveries were able to use the indoor school as it didn't freeze and all the horses got out safely every day.

Henry the trusty tractor got hay and water out to the far fields.

Fingers crossed no more freezing temps heading our way.

Yesterday we welcomed the lovely chaps from https://www.facebook.com/coldcroftshires and horses Millie and William. The guys are currently undertaking their second charity drive in aid of Police Care UK , The Royal Air Forces Association and the Shire Horse Trust , driving from Cardiff to Hampton Court over three weeks.

You can follow their journey here - https://www.followmychallenge.com/live/cshc-2022/

You can donate to these worthwhile causes here - https://www.peoplesfundraising.com/fundraising/shirehorses2022

In addition to their charity drives, Coldcroft Shires also offer education and experiences on driving and working shire horses. All the work on the farm is undertaken using the horses with the exception of baling. As the first person to jump on a tractor I can assure you this is no mean feat and Coldcroft is one of the few places in the Country preserving these traditional farming methods. Having met them and the horses you will definitely have a very nice time! https://www.coldcroftshires.co.uk/

Pleased to welcome Coldcroft Shires tonight, good luck with your trip guys, hope tomorrow is not too warm for you!

RG7 4 - 9 acres of summer grazing with mains water supply available. Field has a couple of natural springs so not suitable for all year round grazing but this does mean it has plenty of grass cover and ground not hard.

Excellent access from road, off road hacking less than 1 mile away plus use of all facilities at yard a few minutes walk away if required.

For all year round use also opportunity to rent a self-contained block of five stables with feed/tack room plus four acres of grazing on main yard. Summer grazing field in summer, stables/winter grazing field in winter. Stable yard also available separately.

Rare grass DIY livery space available to join a 14hh mare arriving in April. 2.5 acre paddock bordered by hedges on two sides, with mains water trough. Possibly going to put in a grass track so would suit a pony that would benefit from plenty of movement. Use of all yard facilities including indoor and outdoor schools, undercover lit tie up area with grass livery secure storage area next door to it. Excellent hacking a short distance away plus an onsite hack around our hay field with cross country jumps.

We don't usually offer grass livery but this pony would benefit from living out all the time due to arthritis and she would appreciate having a pal.

Friends and neighbours often pop in to collect some manure for their gardens, think this is the most unusual vehicle we see however. I stand to be corrected but I think it is a Reliant three wheel pick up, lovingly restored by its owner.

So these little babies arrived today. I say little but actually they are pretty substantial, the solar panel is probably bigger in size than a ream of paper and they feel very well built and solid. Got one out of the box sat in the sun so I can have a play with it tonight. Litemyride

Remembrance

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

- For the Fallen
BY LAURENCE BINYON

This year I worked on a new image, as a tribute to the fallen heroes, to both man and horse. Often known as the "forgotten heroes" in war, horses have carried man into battle for centuries. They were also used to transport ammunition and messages to the front line; to carry food, water and medical supplies into the battlefield and bring the bodies and injured soldiers back. Over a million horses were used by the British Army, and over 8 million horses were believed to have taken part in the Great War.

The horse featured is Zavidovici, also known as "Big Dave." He served over 20 years in the Household Cavalry. Born in 1994, he had a long career in the Blues and Royals regiment and many said he didn’t “put a hoof wrong” during this time.

The guys made great progress with the fence yesterday, just the support posts to remove once the postcrete has fully gone off and new arena letters to go up. Once the lights arrive we can get the poles up for them as well.
