🐶 The Truth About High-Protein Kibble (and What It Did to Egusi!)
📍 Málaga Edition – fresh grass, fresh food, fresh… reactions?! 😅
When we landed in Málaga, two things were waiting for Fufu and Egusi:
1️⃣ A memory foam bed so plush it's better than mine 🛏️
2️⃣ A 2kg bag of top-notch fish & rice kibble 🐟🍚 – you know, the kind of premium food with beautiful packaging and dreamy ingredients.
And let’s give Spain some credit here – the dog food game is strong:
✅ Lamb-based with little to no grain
✅ Fish-forward formulas (great for skin)
✅ 80/10 meat blends
✅ Fewer fillers and almost no chicken (finally!)
✅ Add things like herbs, veggies, prebiotics... the list goes on.
But just two days in… Egusi went red.
No bumps, no itching, no rash – just full-body sunburn mode 🔥 I first blamed the grass (more of it here than in Rio’s concrete jungle). But even avoiding grass, feeding indoors – same thing. Bright red dog. 🍅
By day 4, we had a new behavior: hu***ng.
His bed, his blanket, the air – whatever.
And yes, Egusi is castrated. 😂
By day 6, it became a routine. Ten minutes after dinner: red skin, hyper behavior, and... solo action. No toy needed, he’s a self-starter. 💀
As a trainer, I always say: food affects behavior. So I started researching.
Turns out, I wasn’t imagining things 👇
🍗 1. High Protein = High Energy
Rich diets (organ meats, oily fish) can overstimulate sensitive dogs. It’s not sexual arousal—just general hyperarousal. Some dogs release it by hu***ng. Yep, even neutered ones. 😅
🍖 2. Hidden Hormones & Additives
Even fancy food may contain flavor enhancers or hormones (especially non-EU meat). Soy-based ingredients can affect hormones too—rare, but possible.
💨 3. Gut-Brain Link
Food impacts mood. Gut upset or sensitivities can lead to:
• Restlessness
• Licking, rubbing, hu***ng
• Anxious or excitable behavior
🥗 Why We’re Trying Lamb & Rice
A simpler formula can help:
✅ Moderate protein/fat = calmer after meals
✅ Single protein (lamb) = fewer triggers
✅ Rice = slow energy release, less hyper spike
🥩 Watch For These in Dog Food:
• High fat content
• Artificial flavors/colors
• Meat by-products
• Soy, wheat
• Common allergens like chicken, beef, dairy
So we’re on standby now – watching Egusi like a hawk, waiting for his new food delivery like it’s Christmas. 🎁
Because when your dog’s turning red and getting weird after dinner, it might not be the weather. Or the grass. Or their hormones. 👉 It could just be the kibble.
And Fufu?
🧘♂️ Completely unbothered. Digesting like a monk in meditation.
📌 Moral of the story: Don’t underestimate food’s impact on your dog’s behavior and body. It’s not always about the brand – sometimes it’s just too rich, too much, or too complex for your dog’s system.
