why castration is important 🐾

Castration is more than just a procedure—it’s a step towards a healthier, happier life for any dog. Personally, I feel it’s a responsibility, especially in places like Brazil, where the effects of not castrating dogs are so visible.

Sometimes, it’s about affordability—but there are many free clinics if you take the time to look. What I notice more often is impulse buying of dogs. People get caught up in the excitement of a cute puppy, only to discover it grows into a 45kg dog with no basic training. That can turn an already stressed life upside down.

Clinics should do more pro bono work (and not only during elections) and offer MORE discounted rates for castration to encourage responsible pet ownership. Too many dogs end up on the streets or tied up abandoned, simply because owners weren’t ready for the commitment.

Here’s why it’s so important:
✔️ Prevent overpopulation: One unneutered male dog can lead to countless litters. Castration helps control stray populations and prevent more dogs from suffering.
✔️ Health benefits: It reduces the risk of testicular cancer and lowers the chance of prostate issues.
✔️ Behavioral improvement: Castration can decrease unwanted behaviors like marking, roaming, and aggression.

Egusi is now part of this journey! We’re doing everything we can to give him the best life, and this is such an important step.

A Busy Week with Egusi 💙

This week was full of ups and downs, but Egusi has been a total champ! 🐶 We took him to the vet to get his castration done, microchip him, and check out his broken toenail (thanks to an accidental run-in with a bigger dog that left him one nail less 🐾). We’re not sure if it’ll grow back, but he’s healing well.

After a hectic week—including a water shortage in Rio, a cancelled clinic appointment, and a whirlwind of exams—we found an amazing vet at . Dr. Isis handled everything beautifully:
✔️ Organized Egusi’s vaccination card.
✔️ Completed his castration safely.
✔️ Set him up for travel (once he’s healed).

She’s not only super professional and upfront but also deeply caring. We even had a lovely 30-minute chat while Egusi snoozed in my lap. 💬 He handled everything—blood tests, the vet visit, and recovery—with such calmness and grace. What a little warrior!

We’re so grateful for amazing vets like Dr. Isis who make all the difference. 🐾💖

Check out this superstar moment—Egusi running out of the bedroom the second I call his name! 🏃‍♂️🐶 Name training is such an important foundation for dogs, and here’s why:

✔️ It helps build a strong bond between you and your dog.
✔️ It’s the first step to mastering recall (coming when called).
✔️ It helps your dog focus on you, even in distracting environments.

For us, recall is key, and our secret weapon is the word “Cuscus.” It’s Fufu’s recall word, and soon it will be Egusi’s too—but first, he needs to recognize his name consistently. This little moment is proof that he’s getting it! 💡✨

As a dog trainer, I LOVE seeing how quickly Egusi and Fufu are growing and learning every day. It’s moments like these that remind me why I’m so passionate about what I do. 💖

So, what about your pup? Does your dog know their name? Let me know in the comments! 👇🐕

Today we’re sharing a peek into Egusi’s bag training journey! 👜🐶 He’s learning how to be comfy in his travel bag—and yes, there’s a bit of protesting (you can hear his opinion loud and clear 😅). But this is such an important part of helping him adapt and thrive in our world. 🌍

Bag training is all about balance:
✔️ Consistency: We practice 3-5 times a day, at the same time. For Egusi, it’s right after our walks and a good play session, when he’s ready to wind down.
✔️ Patience: We listen to him and know when enough is enough—pushing too hard won’t help anyone!
✔️ Routine: A regular routine helps him feel secure and builds his confidence.

The goal? To take Egusi with us everywhere while giving him a safe space to switch off when he needs it. 🛋️ For a little guy who didn’t have the best start in life, he’s learning every day what it means to be part of a loving, structured home. 🏡💖

I wanted to share this moment because even as a dog trainer, I know that progress isn’t always linear. It takes time, patience, dedication, and most of all, love to help these four paws grow confident in the real world. 🐾✨

Stick with us as Egusi continues his journey! We’re so proud of how far he’s come already. 💙

🐾 Life with Egusi & Fufu 🐾

Every day, Egusi amazes us with how quickly he’s learning and growing! 🌟 This little guy is getting smarter, braver, and so much more comfortable in his new home. He’s adapting beautifully to new environments and sounds—it’s incredible to see his confidence shine through. 💪✨

Egusi already knows his name (yes, we tested it a few times with treats 😅) and is learning the art of chilling out. 🛋️ He’s taking cues from Fufu, our little Yorkie mentor, and their bond is growing stronger every day. 🐶❤️🐾

Watching him explore, learn, and find his place in the world is such a joy. We’re so proud of our brave little adventurer! 🐾💙

Meet Egusi! 🐾 He’s almost 7 months old and, well... let’s just say he didn’t exactly get a head start in life.

The first couple of days were all about adjusting to new sounds, movements, environments, and figuring out what in the world we were doing. He was afraid of sounds, busses, humans (men) and fast movements, and the broom at home.

By Day 5, the little genius figured out how to use puppy pads. Now, I’m not saying he’s a prodigy... but we might be onto something here! 💡

Right now, we're in the middle of a heatwave (37°C at 9 am, help!), so we’re giving Egusi a bit of flexibility on the whole toilet training thing. We’re not totally house-trained yet, but we’re getting there, one puppy pad at a time. 😅

2 weeks in, and Egusi has already learned:

Sit and wait like a champ.
Time out with no tears (he’s a tough cookie).
Chill out in the bag—yes, he used to howl every time I left the room, including the bathroom. The howl? ADORABLE. The howling every 2 minutes? Not so much. 😬 Now he’s much calmer and can stay in his bag without drama.
Relax on his blanket while we wander around the house. No more shadowing us like a puppy stalker—progress!

Fufu (our first dog) is still warming up to his new little brother. To be honest, Fufu isn't exactly thrilled about puppy energy—he's more of a "quiet, relaxed vibes" kind of dog. Fufu's happy when Egusi is sleeping... because that’s when Egusi is the least annoying. 😆

We’re keeping it steady, slowly working on training for both Egusi and Fufu. The Socialisation is at the top of Egusi’s list—every walk is like a mini field trip, focusing on different surfaces, sounds, and meeting new humans. 🌍

Stay tuned for more updates on Egusi's journey (and the continuing saga of Fufu's patience). This is just the beginning, and we’re learning every step of the way! 🐕✨

Hi everyone! 🐾

I hope you and your pups are doing well! As many of you know, I’m passionate about helping dogs and their owners build strong, positive relationships. I’m currently working on an exciting project: a mobile app designed to guide people in raising happy and well-behaved four-pawed family members! 🐶💖

The app is still in development and will include:

Preparing for your puppy’s arrival.
Teaching basic commands (sit, down, stay, recall).
Loose-lead walking.
Fun tricks and bonding activities.
Tips for positive reinforcement training.
Since I’ve had the pleasure of working with so many amazing pups and owners, I’d love your help! If you have videos of your dog practicing or mastering any of the commands we worked on together, I’d be incredibly grateful if you could share them for the app.

The videos don’t need to be perfect—clips of your pup learning are just as valuable as polished results. It’s all about showing real, relatable moments that inspire and educate others.

If you’re happy to contribute, feel free to DM me, and I can provide more details. Thank you so much for considering being part of this project! 🐕✨

🐾 Tips for New Dog Owners: Understanding Crate Training and Alone Time 🐾

Hey everyone! I wanted to share our experience with combining crate training and teaching our rehomed pup to be comfortable alone. It definitely took some time, but it was worth it! Here's a breakdown of how we did it:

🐶 Rehomed Pup Journey: Our pup came to us at 4 months old, having been rehomed. This made crate training and alone time even more important for his adjustment and comfort.

🕒 Nap Time Routine: From day one, after playtime or a walk, we would place our pup in his crate for naps while we worked from home. This allowed him to see us, nap comfortably, and wake up when he was ready.

🚪 Transition to Alone Time: Around week two, we started training him to be alone in his crate after lunch. We began with short periods and gradually increased them as he became more comfortable.

🚽 Bathroom Breaks as Micro Training: One important aspect of our training was not allowing our pup to follow us into the bathroom. This created micro leave-alone moments and helped him learn independence gradually.

🏡 Expanding His Space: By around 7 months, when he was familiar with where to go for potty breaks, we allowed him access to more rooms. We started leaving him alone in limited spaces outside the crate, and he often chose to nap in his crate on his own.

📉 Gradual Alone Time Increases: We began leaving him alone for longer periods (20-50 minutes) around 6-7 months. This helped him get used to being alone in different parts of the house without feeling anxious.

🔍 Micro Training Sessions: We used everyday activities like throwing out the trash or stepping out briefly to reinforce his comfort with short departures.

🏠 Traveling and Alone Time: When we travel, we bring his favorite blanket to create a safe space. It usually takes a couple of days for him to adjust to a new environment before we can leave him alone comfortably.

🔊 Lesson Learned: Always be mindful of what's within reach! We had a funny incident with headphones left out, but we learned from it. Dogs explore with their mouths, after all!

Remember, patience and consistency are key when teaching your dog to be comfortable alone, especially if they've been rehomed. It's a gradual process, but it pays off in the long run.
