Under the new laws for veterinary medicines (effective 17th May 2024):
All written prescriptions will need to contain the words “It is an offence under the Veterinary Medicines Regulations 2013 for a person to alter a written prescription unless authorised to do so by the person who signed it”.
This means that if Little Flossie comes in to Country Lane Cat Hotel with prescription drugs but her owner states that she's only giving Flossie a 2kg dose (instead of the 3kg one on the prescription) or only giving the tablets in the morning (and the label says am + pm) . . . then we have to go by the printed vet label. So please check that any medication you bring in for your cat has an up to date label that reflects how/when/what medication your cat should be given in the cattery, which may mean you having to take the animal for a vet consultation and get a new prescription BEFORE coming into the cattery.
I will no longer be able to accept those little pills in a plastic packet with no vet label, or human drugs, such as anti-histamines being given to pets. It is now a criminal offence to recommend, advise, or suggest that the client buy the human products for administering to their animal.
