A huge thank you to all the lovely humans who donated to The bordercollie spot whilst I completed the 15k Tough Mudder Henley.
It was a cracking day out and I came home knackered, a little bruised but with a great sense of achievement.
Onto the next challenge :)

In around a months time, Ryan will be attempting the 15k Henley Tough mudder including 30 obstacles and a lot of mud!

Vets4pets post:
We have seen a substantial number of confirmed Giardia cases in dogs at the practice this past week! 🐕🐕
Giardia is a microscopic parasite that attacks the lining of the intestines and is spread by ingesting infected faeces, this means there’s a number of ways it can be picked up!
Some examples would be...
🦠 Eating contaminated grass where an infected dog has previously defecated
🦠 Drinking from contaminated water
🦠 Saying hello to or playing with another dog which is infected and may have the parasite on their coat
🦠 Picking up sticks/toys that are contaminated
🦠 Eating other dogs faeces
🦠 Licking their paws/coat that is contaminated with faecal matter
So... what are the symptoms of Giardia?
💩 Diarrhoea, often strong smelling and mucusy or haemorrhagic (containing blood)
🤮 Vomiting
💨 Flatulence
🍽 Decreased appetite
Unfortunately giardia is zoonotic meaning we can catch it from our pets too! 😧🙈
It’s important to maintain good hygiene and regular hand washing. Please pick up after your dog as soon as possible and be vigilant.
Giardia is treatable however regular worming treatment won’t be effective. If you’re concerned about your dog at all please give the practice a call for further advice and if they’re showing any symptoms it may be best to avoid any doggy kisses for a while! 🐶💋⛔️

They are 8:00am, 10:00am & 1pm
Titers are tests that your vet can run to detect circulating antibodies that defend against these canine diseases:
🔴 distemper, adenovirus and parvovirus.
Veterinary immunologists feel that the results of this particular test offer a reliable indication of whether the dog is adequately protected against the diseases he has been vaccinated for, or whether he no longer has a detectible number of antibodies to those diseases in his body.
Next time your vet calls you in for the distemper, adenovirus and parvovirus vaccines - ask to do a titer test first.
💚 Our founder's dog Aykan recently went in and his results showed that he still had antibodies and didn't need any vaccines. He's six and hasn't had those shots since he was a puppy.

We’ve been accepting dogs into our care with regular titre tests for a number of years now.. have you considered this as a healthier alternative for your dog?
on over-vaccinating your pets:
SO JUST HOW LONG DO YOUR PET’S SHOTS LAST?
Definitely longer than a year!
According to the top pet immunologist (aka vaccine expert) in the world, Dr. Ronald Schultz, Ph.D. – “ Annual revaccination provides no benefit and may increase the risk for adverse reactions.” SO HOW LONG EXACTLY DOES YOUR PET’S VACCINE LAST?
According to the recommendations of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), (basically the dudes who set the standards for the vets): “Among healthy dogs, all commercially available [core] vaccines are expected to induce a sustained protective immune response lasting at least 5 yr. thereafter”
Here’s the breakdown of the core vaccines from Dr. Ronald Schultz:
Minimum Duration of Immunity for Canine Vaccines:
Distemper- 7 years by challenge
Parvovirus – 7 years by challenge
Adenovirus – 7 years by challenge
Canine rabies – 3 years by challenge
The moral of the story here, if you have no idea when your pet is due or has been vaccinated, then just run a titer test and this will confirm if you are due, rather than over-vaccinate your poor pet, setting the stage for future problems!
What’s a titer test?
A titer test (pronounced tight-errr) is a laboratory or in-house veterinary test measuring the existence and level of antibodies (necessary to fight off disease) in your pet’s blood. Basically, it’s a test that will tell you whether or not you actually need to vaccinate your pet.
It’s also super useful when making a decision about vaccinating a pet with an unknown vaccination history, or for determining if pets have received immunity from vaccination.
Vaccinating your pet is super important so don’t lose the overall message here: VACCINATE, JUST DON’T OVER-VACCINATE!

Sunday mornings spent being knocked over and mugged by this lot in the new sand arena..
A little morning madness 🤪
A beautiful February morning surrounded by these little hooligans 🐶
Luther, Scoobie & Buzz.. all the same age, all the same size and all bloody crazy 😅
All three at once is a truly beautiful sight 🐶🐶🐶
Both freezers are fully stocked! (With little Charlie's help)
We have nutriment chubbs, Paleo Ridge Complete & wide variety of frozen treats 👌
We also have an awesome Raw Related project in the works so stay tuned 🥩🐶
Our first new client of the year.. 3 month old Charlie!
His owners sought us out when looking for a day care spacious and varied enough for their Border Collie. He did brilliantly 🐶 What an amazing start to 2020!!
⚡️🌎 We Have A New Groomer! 🌍⚡️
Jade joined the team with a bang earlier this year, bringing with her a breath of fresh air and a compassion for dog welfare like no other, making her the perfect fit for Stablecroft.

When our 2 pointy pooches have their grooms, they're never 100% cool with the situation!
Marley looks at you with such misery that you can't help but feel guilty.
But they're experienced enough and they know there's a turkey neck waiting for them afterwards.. they just have to grin & bear it 😅
