Does your puppy bite??? Yes? Thank goodness!

Puppies NEED to bite. It's the only way they can learn to be gentle with their jaws and that is the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT LESSON EVERY PUPPY MUST LEARN. If your pup learns to ALWAYS be gentle with their jaws then any behavior or temperament problem they might develop will be relatively easy to resolve because you can train them safely knowing they aren't going to inflict a serious injury.

If you've ever watched puppies play you've probable noticed that they bite. A lot. They play, they bite, they play, they bite, and then, every once in a while, one puppy bites too hard and the other pup screams in pain and FREEZES and playtime grinds to a halt. Gradually, they start playing again until another bite that's too hard, and another time out.

With enough practice, these pups learn to ALWAYS be gentle with their jaws, even when they're in the midst of a wild and crazy play session.

You need to teach your pup that this same lesson applies to people as well. In order to to this, you need to let your pup mouth and bite you, so you can provide the same sort of feedback. When your pup is being gentle, praise them. If they bite so hard that it hurts, YELP like an injured puppy and FREEZE and stop the play session immediately. Once your pup has calmed down a little, slowly resume the fun.

For this to work best, you'll want your pup to bite and mouth your hands and forearms which are sensitive and naked, so you can feel when your pup is being gentle or rough. Don't let your pup bite or mouth clothing, shoes or hair, because you won't be able to feel if they're being too rough, so you won't be able to provide the right feedback.

I’m in heaven! There is nothing better than being surrounded by lots of dogs ❤️😀. One more decided to stay away from the camera 😁. During his session we discussed the dynamics in the house between the dogs, ways to keep the peace between dogs and managing the triggers.
