Molly is having a lovely stay at the cattery. This afternoon she's been enjoying some head scratches and purring away!
Maiya of course got the head scratches she wanted after posing nicely for photos!
This is one of our Cats Protection cats, Poppy. She is a fantastic girl and has taken a bit of time to come out of her shell! When we first got her she was very scared and nervous and we couldn't touch her without her flinching, hissing, swiping and biting. These days she rarely hisses or swipes/bites (unless there's a cat carrier around!). She was also quite a bit over weight when she arrived. Because of the weight we had to put her on a diet which reduced her food from what the previous owner was offering (We never pass judgement on how the cats have been looked after prior to coming to us). After speaking to the Cats Protection behaviour specialist we were able to work out that the stem cause for her behaviour was that she was eating too fast and getting stressed that food was unavailable! So under their direction we swapped to feeding her with a puzzle feeder, as seen in the video. This puzzle feeder meant that she had to work to get her food, thus slowing her down but also helped her to use the behaviour a cat would have in the wild where they have to problem solve to hunt. Within a week of using this puzzle feeder we were able to see a change in behaviour!
This is her being given some treats that she gets once every 1-2 weeks as she is still on a diet!
There is still a bit of a ways to go with her, but these days she comes to us, she will jump on laps, and only flinches occasionally from being stroked. She possibly has a home coming up for her with a lovely person interested to meet her. So we have our fingers crossed for her ๐ค
*Although we have the rescue cats here we don't do any of the rehoming ourselves. That is all done by the Reading and District branch of Cats Protection. If you are ever looking for a rescue cat or know someone who is then please visit https://www.cats.org.uk/reading/adopt-a-cat all of the details on how to get in contact are on that page ๐*
Tiger and Tazzy are having a lovely time, every morning they always follow us around meowing until their wet food is brought to them! Tiger always tries his best to convince Tazzy to give up his wet!
Every morning the first thing Agustus does when we clean him is to step into the hallway, flop and roll!
Enzo always loves to have one of his favourite treats and cuddle! (I think Lola, behind, was a little jealous so I made sure to give her a cuddle too)
Mia, one of the Cats Protection rescue cats, is currently enjoying her new treat baffle! A baffle is used to encourage a cats natural exploration and hunting skills by getting them to work for their treats. This is baffle was made by one of staff members used some loo roll tubes and a stapler, a very easy project for anyone looking for some ideas for a new toy for their cat! You could also decorate the tubes for a fun afternoon activity for children ๐
Mia has been chosen by her new family and is here just for a couple more days whilst they get the house ready, we wish her the best in her new home but we will miss her! ๐ธ๐ธ
I had to share this great video of Nina fast asleep (she didnโt even here me come in!) Sheโs dreaming as you can see her cute little paw twitches ๐ป I wonder what sheโs dreaming aboutโฆ chasing mice, stalking birds, or maybe eating treats!
Enzo has been loving all the fuss heโs been getting at the cattery, so much so that he does a little jump when we go to stroke him. How cute!! ๐ป
Luna's favourites are her morning cheese dreamies!
