JUST A REMINDER, TO ALL DOG OWNERS.

⚠️🚙⚠️ Despite the warnings, hundreds of dogs in the UK die every year after being left in a hot car. Someone you know may need to read this very important message. ⚠️🚙⚠️

SIX MINUTES is all it takes for a dog to overheat in a hot car.

Your dog could suffer serious injury or die in a matter of minutes if left alone in a car.

• The temperature inside a closed vehicle left in the sun can double within 12 minutes.

• At least 75% of the temperature increase in a closed vehicle occurs within 5 minutes of closing the vehicle, and at least 89% of the temperature increase occurs within 15 minutes of closing the vehicle.

• Temperatures exceeding 104˚ F can lead to death or serious injury for the occupants.

• Temperatures in a closed vehicle sitting in the hot sun can reach 160˚F and above. An animal will suffer immeasurably and may die before the temperature reaches 150˚F.

• Even when parked in the shade, the vehicle temperatures can exceed 104˚C.

• Leaving windows down more than 2 inches on an unattended vehicle will not prevent a car from reaching extreme temperatures.

• Even if the animal is revived, they can die due to severe internal organ damage.

Your dog trusts you to have their best interest at heart ALWAYS.
Please don’t risk their safety.

If you are not taking your dog inside your destination with you, PLEASE leave them at home where they are comfortable and safe.

Meet Chewie, our patient of the month!

He bounced back so well after major surgery, where Vet Emma removed 45cm of intestine and stitched it back together following an intussusception (where the intestine telescopes into itself which leads to the blood supply being cut off).

The team were quick to get Chewie to surgery where Vet Emma could begin removing the damaged intestine. He also had a special feeding tube fitted so he could be fed whilst he was recovering.

Within a few days, Chewie was wanting to do zoomies and is now back to his usual self. The team were so pleased to be able to sign him off last week and we know his family are so glad to have him back home ❤️

Well done Chewie, you are a superstar ! ❤️🤩

Over the last 24 hrs we’ve had some difficult situations.

Tonight we had a sad situation where a gorgeous dog was brought in to our practice just prior to closing with a life threatening condition. We had already waited a period of time to see her.

The dog was taken away after having an ultrasound on the understanding the family would return soon so we could give her treatment. The team waited after closing in the hope the poor girl would return, but she didn’t, unsurprisingly, leaving an outstanding (consented for) bill but more importantly a team now worried about another night of misery for this dog. Not only is this sad, but it is an appalling abuse of the devoted and compassionate nature of our team.

Let’s hope she is okay and has been taken somewhere else.

We have also had another very poorly dog whose owner decided to share some extremely insulting remarks towards our team whilst we offered estimates to help diagnose their pets illness.

We will always do our best to help every single pet that comes through our door. We never turn a sick pet away, ever, finances or no finances.

But that does not mean that our compassion and morals should be used against us or taken into question when we offer estimates for the professional time and services needed to treat your pet. We don’t deserve to be left waiting when we could be seeing our children at home. Discussing costs doesn’t mean we lack compassion, it’s appropriate and necessary. We offer all options to get the best outcome, always.

We understand costs can be unexpected. We understand illness is unexpected.

But to take your own frustrations out on the very people that legitimately feel deeply for your pets, who want to get them better, is one of the most disappointing and heartbreaking aspects of this job and is something that is sucking the life out this wonderful profession.

Please work with us, with curtosy and respect. We are here for you, and your pet.

Thank you to all of the wonderful compassionate and caring owners who truly see us for what we are. ♥️

Meet the lovely Suki who came in for a spay operation 👩‍⚕️today. 💕
Suki brought her own comfort 🧸in for extra support and we definitely feel this helped her cope whilst with us today she snuggled with her all afternoon🤗
We encourage comfort toys for any visit, even if it’s just an appointment, pop a toy in a cat basket or bring along their favourite toy for them to smell while waiting to be seen. 🐶🐱🐰🐇💙💕

With Easter in abundance around the homes of most families make sure you keep any chocolate goodies well away from curious paws. Human chocolate contains theobromine, which is highly toxic to dogs and other pets. High quality chocolate poses the biggest risk; an average (30-45g) bar of dark chocolate contains enough theobromine to fatally poison a small dog such as a Yorkshire Terrier. Like this post if you’ll be locking away your choccies this year!

February is dental awareness month! 🦷🪥

Dental hygiene is so important to all of our pets! 😺🐶🐰
Just like humans, we should try and brush our dogs and cats teeth daily to prevent any plaque and tartar build up. 🦷 We know that this can sometimes be tricky so there are lots of other things that we can do to help with dental care.

Dental disease can be really painful for our pets and may need dental surgery to make them more comfortable!

To celebrate dental awareness month we are offering free nurse dental checks where we can discuss all the options to help with dental hygiene! Please contact the practice on 01642 486338 to book! 🦷😁🪥

Sorry to post this! But this is a polite reminder that we have a zero tolerance policy to anybody being rude to our staff.

This morning a member of my wonderful reception team had a very unsolicited and unpleasant exchange with a pet owner on the phone.

Please do not take frustrations out on our staff. We are human and would appreciate being spoken to kindly and respectfully.

Thanks
