The Cheshire Cat Pet Sitter

The Cheshire Cat Pet Sitter We are Darren and Kim - The Cheshire Cat pet sitters, a service dedicated to providing the very best care for your cats while you're away from home.

We offer peace of mind by visiting your cat in their own home. Covering Stockport and surrounding areas. We are Darren and Kim. We established The Cheshire Cat Pet sitting Service because we simply love cats! The idea to start our own cat sitting service came after struggling to find the pet sitting service that was right for us within our local area. With over 30 years' experience caring for cats

, all strays with difficult backgrounds, we understand that every cat has different needs and requires different levels of care. We currently have 3 cats - Polly, Milly and Jarvis. All are now senior cats and Polly, who is 18, is currently be treated for hyperthyroidism. Our lives revolve around these three cheeky cats. Darren has previously worked at Animals in Distress animal sanctuary for a number of years, where he gained valuable experience caring for cats of all temperaments, as well as dogs and other small animals. Darren is passionate about the environment and the natural world and he's a keen ornithologist. Kim grew up with cats, dogs, hamsters and goldfish and has, like Darren, had a lifelong love of animals. She was lucky enough to live in Tanzania for three years, where she had the opportunity to see big cats and other large animals in the wild. She's happy now to be settled back in Stockport with three slightly smaller cats!

We have been very lucky to care for a few different ragdolls lately. This is Ottie. Isn't she adorable? 😻

Ottie is just 5 months old and is so incredibly cute. She loves her cuddles and fusses, but of course, she loves to play. She's very smart and will let you know which toy she would like to play with - whether it's a scrunchy ball, a little fish, or stringy. She also loved the laser pen!

She let out little cries when I left, so of course, I had to go back in for a while for extra cuddles. How could I say no to Ottie?!

Meet Primrose and Leia

Primrose (white moustache) and Leia live together with primrose's brother Apollo. Apollo is very shy and we rarely see him and that is why we have never photographed him. We're sure that one day he'll feel confident enough to join us, but until then we'll just let him be.

Primrose is young and fearless. She's affectionate and playful, but the outdoors in an exciting place and she'll often disappear for an adventure and then return for a fuss and some play.

Leia is a little old lady and she's comfortable just doing her own thing. She's happiest, snug and warm in her bed, but she will join us outside and she's more than happy to have her chin tickled. She's also partial to the occasional treat and we've discovered that she really likes to be brushed and so there's a lot of that when we visit her.

Kim and I work together and there are often times when two is better than one. When we have multiple cats to care for with different needs, it really helps that we can divide our time so that no cat misses out.

We're very much looking forward to the next time we see Primrose and Leia and hopefully one day Apollo will join in!

This is Nova.

We first started caring for Nova late last year. Nova is an extremely confident cat and during those cold winter days she would curl up on my knee for the duration of the visit.

Nova does have a cat flap and 24 hour access to her garden and beyond. It's not thought that she travels far, but earlier this year she had an accident. She was hit by a motor vehicle and as a result she has lost her back right leg. She's a very lucky girl indeed.

Life after her accident has become easier and easier and she is fully mobile and still able to play out and explore, but she is more wary of the sound of vehicles and so there's a silver lining to this story.

Nova is one of the most loving and friendly cats we care for. We're glad she's well and want her to remain that way. Be careful Supernova!!

This is Freya

Much of Freya's early history is unknown, but she has known difficult times and trusting people is difficult for her. Despite this, she shares no malice and she's so gentle.

After caring for her for the first time recently, she has certainly grown in confidence with us. Freya has to have a tablet daily that is administered directly using a pill popper. There is no alternative way of giving her this medication and so to make it easy for her, it has to be done quickly and without any fuss.

After her medication, the most important thing is cuddles. On day 1, she never hung around. On the final day we visited her, she remained on my knee for 30 mins after she had her medication.

Sometimes, over a relatively short period of time, we really do go on a little journey with some of our cats. It's not always plane sailing at first, but we get to where we need to be in the end.

We're very much looking forward to seeing Freya again in the future.

Meet Blackie

We have recently finished caring for this sweet senior pud for the very first time and she has most definitely left her paw prints on our hearts.

Blackie was a little unsure at first, but she soon realised that we were there to care for her and in no time at all we were friends. As soon as we walked into her room, she was up and out of her bed to greet us.

Blackie loves a dreamie or two and a pinch of catnip and she loves playing with the laser pen. We limited her play to short little bursts of fun. We don't ever want to get our seniors too excited!

We had mixed feelings on the day of the last visit. We're always delighted to know that our cats are soon to be reunited with their families, but we know we're going to miss them. We're most definitely going to miss this little old gal!!

Leo is another new addition to The Cheshire Cat family - and what an adorable addition he is!

Leo is incredibly friendly and loves a good fuss. He followed me around wherever I went, and was always happy to have some tickles. He was playful too - he batted balls back and forth to me, he played with string, and with other toys I brought for him to try.

I only did a few visits with him, but on the last visit, he sat on my knee, and remained there for the whole time, purring away as he enjoyed all the strokes and fusses. It was very difficult to drag myself away! 😻😽

I sat for Leo only a week after our own cat Jarvis had an eye removed. To see Leo so full of life and looking so beautiful with just one eye, also reassured me that Jarvis was going to be just fine. (He is by the way! He's living his best life once again. :)) Thank you Leo.❤

Meet beautiful Olive. We were lucky enough to be asked to care for her for a few days recently. She was a little shy at first, but soon approached us for some fusses.
She was very playful too and loves her ball of string! She will chase the string across the floor, capture it under rugs and chase it up her scratching post.
Thank you Olive for being such a sweetheart. 😻

This special little fella is Achilles. We've recently completed a lengthy first set of visits with this little man and naturally, we've become extremely fond of him.

Achilles was a little hesitant at first, but he soon adapted to having a sitter and his welcomes each day were so warm and enthusiastic. Once he'd finished up rolling around at out feet in a display of super affection, his list of priorities were food and play, but not always in that order.

When we're visiting a cat over a longer period of time, it always feels so odd on the day when we don't visit them, but it's also comforting to know they're back with their families again.

We're missing this super little fuss monkey already and we're looking forward to seeing him again in the future.

This fine looking fella is Charlie.

We were asked to care for Charlie very early in our cat sitting careers and he is one of our oldest clients. It's for this reason, amongst many others, that Charlie is very special to us.

We love our senior cats and we can't get enough of our black cats. When we visited Charlie recently, it was during an exceptionally warm period of weather and like a lot of cats, he was quite inactive due to the heat. It didn't prevent him from dashing over from his chosen cool spot to greet us each day, before returning to take shelter from the sun.

Charlie is a special little man and it's always a pleasure to spend time with him.

We'll be seeing you again soon Charlie Chops!

Meet Puddy

Puddy is no stranger to Kim and myself. We have been asked to care for him in the past, before we started The Cheshire Cat and so it was a delight to be asked to step in when asked to help out.

Puddy is a senior pud and we adore our OAC's at The Cheshire Cat and yet despite the warmer weather, Puddy couldn't resist a little play. Puddy is a sweet and friendly guy and so gentle, but once he realises you have catnip in your bag or on your person, beware!!!!!! 😆

We are very much hoping to be called upon to care for him again in the future!

Meet Rocky and Simba. Two brothers who are recent additions to our extended cat family and what a joy these two lads are!!

There is no sibling rivalry between Rocky and Simba. They are the best of friends and thick as thieves! They are mischievous and so much fun, yet so gentle and loving.

Trying to describe their personalities is not so easy. It's like peeling an onion. You might think you have them all figured out and then they surprise you. So many layers!!

Simba (silver tabby and white) is the more confident of the two brothers and the first to explore and investigate something new, while Rocky (tabby and white) is slightly more reserved.

Simba is quite the athlete, leaping and twisting in mid air to catch a flying cotton mouse. Rocky tries to emulate his brothers athleticism, often with mixed results. It's always amusing to see cats when they're doing zoomies, but double zoomies with these guys is quite something. it's a dizzying experience to watch!!

These boys don't have access to the outside world, but they have a catio which enables them to safely experience the outdoors. They're very lucky little cats and so adored by their hoomans.

Caring for Rocky and Simba has been an unforgettable experience and we're very much looking forward to seeing them again in the near future.

Meet the adorable Rita, a new addition to The Cheshire Cat family. Isn't she adorable?! Rita is a Persian, but had recently visited the groomers, so wasn't as long-haired as she normally is. Still beautiful though!

Rita was a little shy at first, but within a short space of time, her personality shone through, and she became a very playful cat - often signalling to me with those gorgeous eyes exactly what she wanted (or didn't want!) to do. She loved chasing pieces of screwed up paper, she loved the toys I brought for her to play with, and she especially loved her daily spoonful of mousse! 😂

We hope to see you again soon Rita. 😻😺
