Another young Blue Tongue Skink from our local breeder, previous ones haven’t been around long. Great animal to own. Believed to be a female

Caring for a Northern Blue-Tongue Skink (Tiliqua scincoides intermedia) requires proper husbandry, diet, and habitat setup to ensure a healthy and happy pet. Here’s a comprehensive care guide:

1. Enclosure & Habitat
• Size: Minimum 120cm x 60cm x 45cm (4ft x 2ft x 1.5ft), but bigger is better.
• Substrate: Aspen shavings, cypress mulch, coconut husk, or bioactive soil mix (avoid sand and pine/cedar).
• Hides: Provide at least two hides (cool and warm side) plus extra cover.
• Climbing & Enrichment: Logs, branches, and rocks for enrichment, though they are primarily ground dwellers.
• Humidity: 40-60%; misting or a humid hide may help during shedding.

2. Temperature & Lighting
• Basking Spot: 35-40°C (95-105°F) using a heat lamp.
• Cool Side: 22-27°C (72-80°F).
• Night Temperature: Should not drop below 18°C (65°F); use a ceramic heat emitter if necessary.
• UVB Lighting: Required (12-hour cycle); a T5 10-12% UVB tube is ideal.

3. Diet & Feeding

Northern blue-tongues are omnivores and need a varied diet:
• Protein (50%): Cooked chicken, turkey, lean beef, eggs, high-quality dog/cat food (grain-free), snails, roaches, crickets, mealworms.
• Vegetables (40%): Dark leafy greens, squash, carrots, bell peppers, peas. Avoid onion, avocado, rhubarb.
• Fruits (10%): Strawberries, blueberries, mango, banana (sparingly).
• Calcium & Supplements: Dust food with calcium + D3 (2-3x per week) and multivitamins (1x per week).

4. Hydration & Cleaning
• Water: Provide fresh, clean water in a sturdy dish.
• Cleaning: Spot-clean daily, deep clean monthly.

5. Handling & Temperament
• Taming: Generally docile but may need time to adjust. Handle gently and support their body.
• Signs of Stress: Hissing, puffing up, hiding excessively.

6. Common Health Issues
• Respiratory Infections (due to low temps/humidity).
• Metabolic Bone Disease (lack of UVB/calcium).
• Shedding Problems (low humidity).
• Obesity (too much protein/fatty foods).

7. Lifespan & Growth
• Lifespan: 15-20 years with proper care.
• Adult Size: 45-60cm (18-24 inches).

Asian Jungle Scorpion

The Asian jungle scorpion, commonly referred to as the Heterometrus species, is a large and impressive scorpion native to parts of South and Southeast Asia. Here are some key features and details about it:

Physical Characteristics:
• Size: Can grow up to 12–18 cm (4.7–7 inches) in length.
• Color: Typically black or dark brown, sometimes with a glossy sheen.
• Body: Robust pincers (pedipalps) and a thick tail ending in a venomous stinger.
• Venom: Mildly toxic to humans, generally used to subdue prey rather than as a defense mechanism. The sting is painful but rarely dangerous to healthy adults.

Habitat:
• Found in tropical and subtropical forests, often hiding under rocks, logs, or leaf litter during the day.
• They prefer humid environments and are most active during the night.

Diet:
• Carnivorous, feeding on insects, spiders, and other small invertebrates.
• Use their strong pincers to crush prey and their venom to immobilize it.

Behavior:
• Nocturnal and solitary, except during mating or when females care for their young.
• Females are protective of their offspring, often carrying them on their back until they can fend for themselves.

Importance in Ecosystems:
• Serve as both predator and prey, playing a critical role in controlling insect populations and supporting the food chain.

Californian Giant Centipede
Not for the faint hearted
Can kill things 15 times its size

The Californian giant centipede (Scolopendra heros arizonensis), also known as the giant desert centipede, is a large and impressive species of centipede native to the southwestern United States, including parts of California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. Here are some key facts about this creature:

Appearance:
• Size: They can grow up to 8–10 inches (20–25 cm) long.
• Coloration: Typically displays vibrant colors such as reddish-brown or orange with yellowish or orange legs. This coloration serves as a warning to potential predators.
• Body: Segmented with a hard exoskeleton, featuring a pair of legs per segment.

Behavior:
• Nocturnal: Active at night, primarily hunting for prey.
• Diet: Carnivorous, feeding on insects, small reptiles, amphibians, and even rodents.
• Hunting Style: Uses venomous fangs (forcipules) to immobilize prey, injecting venom that contains a mix of toxins.

Habitat:
• Found in arid and semi-arid environments, including deserts, grasslands, and rocky areas. They hide under rocks, logs, or burrow into the soil during the day.

Venom:
• Toxicity: While its venom is not typically lethal to humans, a bite can cause significant pain, swelling, and discomfort.
• Defensive Behavior: Generally avoids humans but will defend itself if provoked.

Ecology:
• Plays an important role in controlling pest populations.
• A part of the food chain, serving as prey to larger animals like snakes and birds.

If you’re encountering one, it’s best to observe from a distance and avoid handling it, as its bite can be painful.

Whites tree frogs back in stock

White’s tree frogs (Litoria caerulea), also known as dumpy tree frogs, are popular pets due to their hardiness and charming personalities. Here’s a detailed care guide for keeping them in the UK:

1. Enclosure
• Size: A vertical terrarium is ideal. A minimum size of 45x45x60 cm (18x18x24 inches) is suitable for 1-2 frogs, though larger is better for climbing space.
• Type: Use a glass or plastic terrarium with a secure mesh lid for ventilation.
• Decor: Include branches, vines, live or artificial plants, and cork bark for climbing and hiding spots. A shallow water dish is essential.

2. Temperature & Humidity
• Temperature: Maintain 24-29°C (75-85°F) during the day and allow a nighttime drop to 18-22°C (65-72°F). Use a ceramic heat emitter or a heat mat with a thermostat.
• Humidity: Keep humidity levels at 50-70%. Mist the enclosure lightly once or twice a day and monitor with a hygrometer.
• Lighting: Provide a 12-hour day/night cycle. UVB lighting (5.0 strength) is beneficial but not mandatory if the diet is supplemented with vitamin D3.

3. Substrate
• Options: Use a substrate that retains moisture but isn’t too damp, such as coco fibre, sphagnum moss, or a mix of soil and sand.
• Avoid: Gravel, sand, or substrates that could cause impaction if ingested.

4. Diet
• Food: Feed a variety of live insects such as crickets, locusts, and occasional mealworms or waxworms.
• Supplementation: Dust food with calcium powder 2-3 times a week and a multivitamin supplement once a week.
• Feeding Frequency: Juveniles should eat daily; adults can be fed every 2-3 days.

5. Water Quality
• Use dechlorinated or bottled spring water for misting and the water dish. Replace water daily to prevent contamination.

6. Handling
• Limit handling as White’s tree frogs have sensitive skin. Always wash your hands before and after handling to avoid transferring oils, chemicals, or pathogens.

7. Health and Maintenance
• Regularly clean the enclosure to prevent bacterial growth.
• Watch for signs of illness such as lethargy, discolored skin, or refusal to eat, and consult a reptile/exotic vet if needed.

With proper care, White’s tree frogs can live up to 15 years or more in captivity.

Wednesday is new fish delivery day, our fish come from uk suppliers so have already been quarantined.
We also treat tanks so they don’t get diseases. Our tanks are kept clean with regular water changes and big filters.
We guarantee all fish for 3 days after purchase but you have to do your bit including regular maintenance, water changes and checking your parameters before adding new fish. Your existing fish will be used to your existing water but new fish won’t. This is why we ask you for a water sample to check if you have any issues to make sure any further fish won’t die either. We offer free water testing and advice if needed. We often get customers that when their water is tested has low ph, high nitrates and high ammonia all in one go, as they haven’t done water changes or cleaned the filters enough. Again, if you need advice please ask us.
