Arthritis in our feline friends 🐾
Osteoarthritis (OA) has a very high prevalence in our cat population with 90% of cats over the age of 12 having arthritic changes on X-ray. Arthritis is a painful condition, however many cats will not show obvious signs of pain. Often there signs are very subtle and may only be identified as mild behaviour changes.
To detect signs of arthritis we often evaluate their behaviour at home.

Some changes can include:
- Difficulty climbing the stairs (or going downstairs)
- No longer willing to be groomed or touched in a particular place
- Difficulty chasing moving objects
- Urinating outside the litter tray
- Difficult jumping up (or not doing as as frequently as they used to)
- Increased irritability

If you would like to have a consultation to discuss your cat's mobility (or any aspect of their health) then please contact the practice.

Lovely Lottie being a good as gold for her catheter removal.

In most dogs, their deciduous/baby teeth fall out around by 6 months of age, however for Lottie some of them just didnt want to budge. These baby teeth were removed to prevent deterioration of her adult teeth as their close proximity to each other can allow for tartar build-up and weakening of the ligaments that hold the tooth in place.
Now Lottie's adult teeth should stay healthy and strong.

Arthritis awareness in our four legged friends🐾
Arthritis (also known as osteoarthrtitis OA) is a degenerative condition that effects up to 80% of dogs over the age of 8 years old. The signs can often be very subtle and these changes are often mislabelled as our pets simply 'getting older'. Correct mangement of your pets arthritis pain can hugely improve their quality of life and keep them moving for longer.

Some of the signs of arthritis include:
- Slow to rise
- Appearing stiff, particularly in the morning
- Difficulty jumping
- Limping after exercise
- Difficulty with stairs
- Lagging behind on walks

For more information see some of our in practice leaflets (below) that can assist in the detection of possible arthrtitis pain. If this is something you would like us to check for your dog please contact the practice for a general health check and arthritis examination.
