With fireworks starting here are some tips for your pets wellbeing/safety

As is on a Tuesday this year, firework displays are spread across this weekend and next. We know this is a stressful time for many pet owners, so our vets have put together their top tips on helping anxious pets keep calm 🎆

Our free Firework Guide will help you make sure you've got everything covered for your pet: http://pdsa.me/pFGd

[Visual description: Infographic which has seven tips to help pets cope with fireworks. Each tip is next to a small picture related to the point. Tips include: make a den, play music and sounds, keep pets inside, pheromone plug-in, close doors, curtains and door flaps, cats feel safer up high, and if your pet seeks reassurance, comfort them normally.]

We have been made aware of several ‘traps’ constructed in the woods in Priory Park in Reigate, which were discovered over the weekend.

These are thought to have been made using fishing line set at different heights, intended to trip or cause injury to humans or animals passing through the area.

This has been reported to us and an investigation is underway. Our Safer Neighbourhood Team will also be conducting patrols of Priory Park over the coming days.

Reigate & Banstead Borough Council have also been made aware and their Greenspaces team will monitor the area for additional traps.

This incident had the potential to cause serious injuries and we would like to identify those involved as soon as possible.

If you have any information that could assist our investigation, including photos of this or any other traps found in Priory Park, please DM us quoting PR/45240120564.

If you come across a trap yourself, please do not touch it, but immediately report it to the police or the council. We can then advise you on what steps to take next.

If there is an immediate risk to life or risk of serious injury, please dial 999. Otherwise, please DM us, report via the live chat function on our website, or call 101. If you use what3words, please provide the reference for your location to help us identify exactly where you are.

Most people believe it will never happen to their dog, yet every year dogs continue to die in hot cars ⚠️

Polling from the RSPCA (England & Wales) has revealed that only 58% of people would NOT leave their dog inside a car on a warm day, meaning more than 40% may potentially put their pets at risk!

Please don’t gamble with your dog’s life. Even if you're leaving them in the car for a minute or two, this could still lead to tragic consequences for your dog. Even if you're parked in the shade with the windows open, a car can still quickly heat up to dangerously high temperatures 🌡️

Remember: 'not long' is too long.

If you see a dog in a hot car showing signs of distress such as panting heavily, drooling excessively, appearing lethargic, drowsy or uncoordinated, collapsed or vomiting, dial 999 immediately.
