Rory initially signed up for classes, but after realising they weren’t the perfect fit for his family’s needs, we opted for a more personalised approach with a home visit. During our session, we focused on building his confidence and strengthening his walking skills on the lead—something many dog owners can relate to as a common challenge.

To make walks more enjoyable for both Rory and his family, we introduced fun and engaging pattern games designed to keep his focus and energy in check. These exercises not only made the training fun but also laid the foundation for better communication and understanding between Rory and his owners.

From there, we began working on lead skills, ensuring Rory was learning to walk politely and calmly by his handler's side. By tailoring the training to Rory’s unique environment and his family’s goals, we set them up for success and more enjoyable walks together. It was a productive session, and Rory is well on his way to becoming a superstar on the lead!

Congratulations to Ruby for completing her very first puppy training block! 🎓

Over the past six weeks, it’s been wonderful to see her come out of her shell and let her personality shine. Huge credit to both Ruby and her dad for their dedication and hard work, even braving less-than-ideal weather. Their bond is truly special and heartwarming to see. Well done, team Ruby!

Today's class was all about socialisation—a key part of raising happy, confident dogs! 🐾

We dove into sound socialisation, introducing puppies to everyday noises they'll encounter, like doorbells, traffic sounds, and household appliances. 🎵🐶

We also practiced handling and helped pups get comfortable with grooming. ✂️🛁 It’s all about building positive associations!

Finally, we focused on teaching stillness, capturing those calm moments and rewarding them—setting the foundation for well-behaved companions.

Great job to all the pups and their humans today! 🎉

We missed seeing wee Harvey face today.

Our Puppy Progress class focused on a skill that every dog owner can appreciate: teaching our puppies to settle around other dogs.

Why is "settle" so important? Imagine this:

🟠 You're at a busy cafe, and your pup is getting overly excited by other dogs nearby.

🔴 You're in the park, and you want your puppy to relax while you chat with a friend.

🔵 Or you're hosting guests, and you need your pup to calm down amidst all the excitement.

These are real-life situations where a strong "settle" cue can help. It teaches your puppy to relax and stay composed, even in stimulating environments.

In class, we worked on:
✅ Helping puppies practice calm behaviour when other dogs are present.
✅ Rewarding relaxation and focus on their owners.
✅ Building the "settle" cue as a habit they can carry into everyday life.

It's amazing to see these puppies progress as they learn to manage their emotions and focus, even with distractions. A settled pup is a happy pup—and a happy owner, too!

Keep practicing this skill at home and in different environments. Your future self (and your calm, collected dog) will thank you!

How are you using "settle" with your puppy? We'd love to hear your stories below! 🐶👇

🎉 Today’s class was all about teamwork and trust!

We focused on one of the biggest challenges for dog owners: helping your dog ignore distractions—especially other dogs—and choose you instead. 🐾💡 Watching each dog and their owner work together toward their unique goals was inspiring.

It’s not just about training; it’s about building a strong relationship where your dog looks to you, no matter what’s going on around them. 💕🐕

What’s the biggest distraction your dog struggles with? Let’s hear your stories below! 👇

Yesterday’s Puppy Class was a windy one 🌬️, but that didn’t stop our dedicated owners from showing up to strengthen their bond with their new furry family members! 🐶❤️

We focused on helping humans understand the difference between luring their pups into positions and encouraging independent learning. 🧠✨ This approach builds not only smarter, more confident puppies but also stronger trust between you and your dog. 🤝🐕

The highlight? Teaching the pups the "middle" position! 🐾🎯 It’s a foundational skill that promotes focus, security, and connection—and it’s just the start of what your pup can achieve with practice and patience. 💪🐾

Great work, everyone! 👏 Keep practicing, and we’ll see you next week for more fun and learning. 🎉🐕

Puppy Progress Class Recap

Recall training and doorway manners—two essential skills for every puppy owner!

This week, we focused on teaching puppies to come when called, even around distractions. A reliable recall is key to keeping your pup safe and strengthening your bond.

We also worked on doorway manners, helping puppies learn to pause and stay calm instead of rushing through doors. This simple skill makes everyday life so much easier, from walks to welcoming visitors.

Ready to build on these skills? Join us for the Puppy Progress classes starting in December! Designed to take your puppy’s training to the next level, these sessions will introduce new skills and refine their behaviour.

Today, I had the pleasure of meeting wee Olly and his fantastic owner. Like many dogs entering their adolescent stage, Olly has been testing boundaries—sometimes ignoring recall commands, pulling on the lead, and showing some challenges during car rides. These behaviours are completely normal for dogs at this stage, but with the right guidance, they can be effectively managed.

We started with lead training indoors, a controlled environment that allows dogs to focus and build new skills without external distractions. By practicing these foundational techniques at home, we’re setting Olly up for success when we tackle more challenging environments in our follow-up session next week.

Key Takeaways for Dog Owners:

🟥 Adolescence is Normal: Dogs often “forget” training as they grow, but consistency is key during this stage.

🟨 Start in Controlled Settings: Practicing new skills at home builds confidence and focus before moving to more distracting environments.

🟧 Short, Fun Training Sessions: Keep it positive and engaging to maintain your dog’s interest and enthusiasm.

If your dog is starting to pull on the lead, ignoring recall, or showing new behaviours as they grow, now is the perfect time for a refresher! Let’s work together to set your dog up for long-term success. Get in touch today to schedule your personalised training session!

Does your pup have trouble with these issues? We’ve got you covered! Our next puppy progress class starts next week, and it’s the perfect opportunity to help your furry friend master these life-saving skills. Spots fill up quickly, so sign up today to set your pup up for success!

Puppy Playschool Recap: Building Confidence and Communication

In today’s Puppy Playschool, we had an exciting session designed to boost your puppy’s confidence and teach them essential skills! We introduced activities like navigating over cones to help them become more comfortable using their bodies in new ways.

We also focused on foundational positions like down and stand—key building blocks for obedience and body awareness. Throughout the class, we dove into understanding dog body language, exploring how dogs communicate with one another, and learning how you can provide the right support when your puppy feels uncertain.

It was a fun, interactive day that set the stage for happy, confident pups ready to thrive in any environment!

Today's focus in our dog training class was on scent work and impulse control, and what a productive session it was! We kicked off with scent training games, challenging the dogs to identify which cone concealed the treat—an excellent exercise for stimulating their natural sniffing abilities and building mental focus.

Following that, we worked on impulse control, using food and high-value tennis balls as tempting distractions. The dogs showed remarkable progress in managing their self-control, even in the face of these irresistible items.

A big well done to everyone for their hard work and enthusiasm! Unfortunately, we missed snapping a photo of Dexter, but he was a superstar throughout the session. Keep up the great work, and we can’t wait for the next class!

10/11/2024

In week three of our puppy training classes, we delved into three essential skills to build a strong foundation for a well-mannered, responsive, and confident pup:

1️⃣ Verbal Markers

We introduced verbal markers—words or sounds used to signal to your puppy that they’ve done something right. This technique is invaluable in training, as it creates a clear, immediate link between the desired behaviour and the reward. By associating positive actions with specific words like "Yes!" or "Good!", we’re creating a pathway for quick learning and a dog who understands exactly when they're on the right track.

2️⃣ Luring Techniques

In this session, we also focused on luring, a technique where treats are used to guide your puppy into desired positions or behaviours, such as sitting, lying down, or walking to heel. With luring, we’re not just rewarding behaviours—we’re shaping them, helping the puppy understand what we’re asking in a way that feels intuitive. This is particularly effective for introducing new commands, as it sets the stage for an enthusiastic response every time!

3️⃣ Food Bowl Manners

Finally, we tackled food bowl manners, a crucial aspect of building impulse control and respecting boundaries. Teaching your puppy to wait patiently until given the cue to approach their food helps prevent issues like food aggression and overexcitement during meal times. This skill reinforces trust and respect, and the best part? It adds a bit of polish to your pup’s mealtime behaviour, making every meal a calm, controlled experience.

These foundations—marking, guiding, and patience—will strengthen your pup’s focus, create a positive learning environment, and build habits that will make all future training easier and more enjoyable.

In today's Progress Class, we focused on one of the biggest challenges for dog owners: loose lead walking. We explored why dogs tend to pull on the lead, from natural excitement and curiosity to learned behaviours, and discussed effective strategies for redirecting their focus and encouraging calm walking.

Pulling on the lead can make walks stressful for both you and your dog, but with the right techniques, you can transform walks into enjoyable, bonding experiences. Whether it's understanding your dog's motivations, rewarding positive behaviours, or implementing clear guidance, each step brings you closer to a relaxed and controlled walk.

If lead-pulling is a struggle in your household, we can help! Join our group training classes or book a private one-to-one session for personalised support tailored to your dog's needs. Reach out today to get started on the path to stress-free walks!
