🌟 One-to-One Wins with Clea! 🌟

In today’s session, we continued building a stronger bond between Clea and her lovely humans—and wow, she really showed up! 💪🐾

This week’s highlight? Her reaction times have improved massively since last session! She was bouncing back quicker, checking in with mum more often, and showing some serious focus. 🙌

As a spaniel, Clea’s love of the great outdoors came in handy—we used the environment as a reward, and she absolutely thrived. 🌿🌼 Oh, and we uncovered a new favourite: a squeaky soft ball that totally stole her heart (and our attention 😄).

Way to go, Clea! 🐶❤️

🌧️ Sunday Puppy Class Recap – When Weather Has Other Plans! 🐾

Well, Sunday’s puppy class started off with wagging tails and eager little learners… until the weather decided we needed a bath. 😅
Unfortunately, the rain came down hard, and our class had to wrap up halfway through—turns out soggy pups and soaked humans aren’t the ideal combo for a great learning experience!

That said, we still made the most of our time together. We focused on engagement games to keep the pups dialed in despite the drizzle, and we practiced the “down” position. One very special moment: a pup who had never done a down before gave it a go—and nailed it! The look on the owner's face? Absolutely priceless. 💛 Moments like that make it all worth it.

Today we worked on a really important skill: helping our pups learn how to get excited and then calm back down again.

We played fun games like tug to get them revved up – which gets them feeling playful, energetic, and full of beans! Then we practised settling straight after, even around other dogs.

This helps them learn to manage their emotions – something that doesn’t come naturally and needs to be gently taught. It’s a big step in raising calm, confident dogs who can handle the world around them.

Such a fun class today – great energy from both pups and humans! 🐾

Let’s Talk About Shy Puppies 🐾💛

Tonight, I had the pleasure of working with a sweet little pup who's on the shy side. Shy puppies often need a gentler introduction to the world—and that’s okay! Just like people, every puppy has their own pace when it comes to confidence.

We focused on helping this little one feel safe and secure in their space. Through calm handling, positive reinforcement, and some carefully chosen confidence-building exercises, we started to show the puppy that the world isn’t such a scary place after all.

A big part of tonight’s visit was also supporting the owners—answering questions about what to do when the puppy gets overwhelmed, how to set up the home environment for success, and how to gently guide their pup through new experiences without pushing too fast.

With patience, consistency, and the right guidance, even the shyest puppies can grow into confident, happy companions. 💫🐶

This was Clea’s third one-to-one session, and we were working on some real-world skills to help her stay cool, calm, and collected when other dogs are around. Specifically, we focused on her disengagement—that is, helping her choose to turn away from distractions (in this case, other dogs) and check back in with her human instead. Controlled setups like this are golden for teaching that calm choices do pay off!

We had a helpful neighbour on hand to play the role of “friendly distraction,” and Clea handled it like a champ. It’s always lovely seeing how her team is supporting her progress. 💪🐾

We also introduced the leave-it cue, and Clea was catching on quickly. In fact, when a bird dropped in uninvited mid-session, we used the moment to practise—and she chose to turn away instead of chasing. Boom: bonus training moment!

And finally, we got started on an emergency recall using the touch cue—super useful for building that fast, reliable response when you need it most.

Way to go, Clea! 🐶💚
