The Search and Rescue Dog Association of South Wales is a team of volunteers dedicated to saving lives. Our operational area covers the whole of south and mid Wales from Pembrokeshire in the west and into English counties over the border when necessary. We also provide support for other SARDA teams....

Pre-assessment day today. Thick fog when we first turned up, but fortunately it blew through just as we were about to start. We've now been put forward for full assessment in 2 weeks time! 😱😁🐕

It's International Epilepsy Day. The theme for 2024 is 'Milestones on my Epilepsy Journey'.
After my first seizure in Dec 2022 I have spent the last year or so juggling different medications to get the right levels for me. I seem to be succeeding with this because the last 2 sets of seizures that I've had, they have been so much milder and recovery was much quicker.
A significant Milestone for me is that not only have I managed to continue my Search Dog training, which I absolutely love, but there is also a very good chance I'll be going for assessment very soon with my human handler Claire, so I can go out with my Mountain Rescue chums on proper jobs! So watch this space.... 🐕

Two areas in quick succession today near Beacons Reservoir. One quick warm-up and one bigger area. Pushed the Rocket hard today. He even started to get tired towards the end. (He wasn't the only one!) Tough terrain. A good training session.

A body's eye view of Rhedyn finding Katie and shuttling back and forth to show me where she was. Despite a very gentle breeze, Katie's scent was travelling quite far along the ground, probably helped by the cold conditions.

After 4.5 months of wellness, unfortunately Rhedyn had a cluster of tonic-clonic seizures this morning. Totally unexpected, as he was doing so well. Time to put his meds back up to the higher dose again. He's feeling much better now.

SARDA training at RAC corner today. (Across the main road from Pen y Fan). We felt very privileged to be the only dog training today, with 4 bodies to find. Unfortunately I totally forgot to take a photo of Kay who was deep in an area of actual rhedyn (bracken). Much steeper and more technical terrain, but not a problem for the 4-legged one.

A busy weekend for the Rocket. Saturday was spent schmoozing with the locals at Llanwrtyd Carnival and helping with a bit of fundraising. Sunday was spent at Search Dog training in the Brecon Beacons.

We did some search training at home today. Rhedyn had to find 2 x small humans and 1 x rucksack. I attempted to track Rhedyn's route by attaching my fitbit to his harness. Unfortunately it stopped working after about a minute or so, so I only have my tracked route to show.

Search training above Llangynidr today. It was minus figures with snow the last time we were here, so nice to have some beautiful sunshine.
