Babies
Morning all, no losses again🫶🏻 The rat pack is still going strong💪🏻 Everyone now has open eyes and ears and we’ve moved over to an extra small teat rather than the paint brush so they’re taking a little more but still not clearing 3mls between them😅 They still have huge naps between feeds so I’m going to keep them in the little nest, they do have walking room and a little climbing room but for 99% of the day minus feeds they’re sleeping, I think by Friday they’ll be in a larger enclosure and I’ll be able to introduce some soft solids. They’ve started to clean eachother and I’m sure I heard the first squabble earlier too😅 I’ll also be able to cut out the middle of the night feed Friday🥳 I’m hoping to release the three baby pigeons this week when the rain starts to ease as the nights are becoming a little more mild too🫶🏻 Fingers crossed for a good week all round.
Babies
Morning all, we’ll start with the bad news Agnes the troublesome pigeon has passed away, when she arrived we knew she had issues which meant she wouldn’t be wild again but she went down hill soon after bless her so hasn’t joined us for breakfast😮💨 All the little newbies made the night this video was just after a feed they all argue over who’s going to be in the corner until they all succumb to the milk coma😂 I’ve got huge hopes for these little ones I know I shouldn’t😅 But I’ve got a really good feeling about them all the little runt of the litter drinks the most so I’m hoping as I said yesterday she’ll catch up now feeds are one to one rather than whoever can get to mum quickest before she goes off again🫶🏻
Babies
I know I said yesterday I’m not taking any but if these little ones didn’t have a full belly today they wouldn’t have seen this evening. A little sooner than anticipated I’ve made the first formula batch of the year and got the paint brushes out. Your eyes don’t deceive you that is 36 micro paws you see. I was expecting 3 and there’s 9, the finder did everything right they didn’t stop to count them they scooped them up and put them in a safe place hoping mum would return during the night but she hasn’t. All have been warmed and had their tiny bellies filled so hopefully in just 2/3 short weeks they’ll be fully weaned, we’re at the “hopper stage” no open eyes but all full of fur and got their tiny teeth buds so anywhere from 9-15ish days old🫶🏻
Pigeons
That is Rusty whistling you can hear😂 Whenever I go to the garage I hear flapping just outside😂 I stand and watch them for as long as they’ll let me I always stand there and toot my own horn and think “wow, they’re here because of me” Maverick and Buddy were more easy cases they just needed intense weight gain and released themselves😅 But Gary was a real touch and go one with open wounds to his back and chest, he was a bit of a mess. Whenever I see any of the ones I release I just think wow, the same when the little white dove came back and fourth for the month prior to bonfire night I fixed her wing and she was able to be out and do her thing. I see these guys along with two others every day if I’m not in the garage when they come to feed they’ll go to my living room window to make sure I know they’re waiting😂 While walking back from the school I noticed lots of little birds I hadn’t seen since October time and lots of “singing” establishing territory and finding mates I believe, baby season is very almost here🫶🏻

Morning all, I’ve got quite a busy week and emotionally draining this week so may be hit and miss with taking calls and messages so bare with me as it’s the run up to my Grandmothers funeral on Friday and I have things to do before then. We lost the gorgeous little fancy pigeon in the night poor little soul everyone else is here for breakfast. I wanted to show some more cute hedgehog crunches but he was drinking instead, of course he’s managed to poop on the bowl… again😂 It was cleaned straight away but I didn’t want to interrupt him having a drink🫶🏻 I still have stick for taking these little dudes in and the other outcome is worse than me so it’s something you’ll have to come to terms with I do my absolute best with them all, I’m happy to take on knowledge and advice but not be spoken down to. I fully understand they’re complex little balls of spikes and I know I need things tested and so on but I’ve also successfully reared/treated and released more hedgehogs than I have sparrows, go figure😅 This whole thing takes more energy than the two tiny humans I raise every spare moment I have I’m researching, reading and brainstorming. I speak with rescues all over when I need advice I have more contacts in my phone for rescue advice than I do for family and friends. Please be polite when talking to me, you don’t see my personal life, I live a full on life with many commitments that never stop and within that I have over 30 rescues (not including my pets) I tend to daily so believe me i give this rescue my 100%, it’s my third baby and my dream. Along with these battles I have soo many worries ahead of July to keep this going and baby season running full speed at me so again please think before you go all key board warrior on me I’m a stress head anyway your words stick and hurt I am a human being behind the posts😂 Anyway enjoy your morning cuppas🫶🏻
I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas🫶🏻 It was Rustys first Christmas with us so he had his first ever macaw friendly Christmas dinner, made up of a little turkey and chicken along with sweet potato mash and sweet potato roasties🫶🏻 Everyone’s doing well here both gulls have now flown the nest as of this morning after eating their weight in fish I had in the Christmas Eve clearance, we had a newbie who I’ll introduce later on today. Little baby hedgehog is still here and has been moved into an enclosure now she’s eating and drinking well just awake at the wrong time up all day sleep all night. We had a couple of messages yesterday but as I’ve stated I am really at capacity, we also don’t have enough antibiotics to take on birds that have been catted at the moment😮💨
Egg
Last one of the night, we’ve had another newbie who I’ll introduce after Christmas now as I fully intend on taking tomorrow and Christmas Day as family days🫶🏻 She’s drunk a little but refused food so I gave her something I never give any of the hogs although they can eat it in moderation and as you can see she’s very much enjoyed it. No longer a floppy baby that wouldn’t put her spines up she’s full of attitude and egg yolk. Her poop looks normal considering how ill she was, 3 large ticks removed from her head I’ll give some more fluid as I’m about to head to bed but I think she’ll be here in the morning unlike when she first arrived only 7 hours ago if it wasn’t for the shallow breathing you wouldn’t have thought she was alive. What a huge difference🥹
Baby girl
Sub cut fluids ✅ She’s a little more wriggly now and I’ve also seen her eyes too as they were firmly shut when she arrived but she opened them after I finished the fluids. After putting her back she snuggled up straight back into the heated side kicked her little legs and went back to sleep. She weighs a tiny 200gs, 400gs off a good hibernation weight. Remember a hedgehog out in the day is not ok🙂
Baby goshawk
With it almost being Christmas I want to think of all the nice times we’ve had throughout the year. We stand at just over 50 releases this year from pigeons to birds of prey and it’s been the most amazing journey. Some of you guys I’ve met along the way I really consider as friends and I couldn’t be without any of you. We’ve gone from strength to strength what started as a plastic guinea pig enclosure on my kitchen counter has turned into a full on animal hospital with over 80 spaces (well over half being for tiny babies) from tiny tiny enclosures to the large ones for the big boys🫶🏻 We’ve got an icu unit on the way which was very pricey but will save soo many lives. I thought I’d add a video of one of my favourite releases again I watch this video all the time. The sounds he’s making, he was soo eager to get back out there and at the end of the video after 5 weeks in captivity he caught prey on the wing like he’d never been away🫶🏻 And a lot of people who follow the page now wouldn’t have seen this as it was quite early into the page being on social media. This video isn’t mine as with all birds of prey I keep them safe and get them eating, onto the right road and then they go onto the specialists who have all relevant licenses to house and release them so again thank you Dean for helping us out with this baby🙏 Over the coming days my updates will be few and far between as I soak up all the Christmas magic with my troublesome toddlers both starting to understand what all the fuss is about. I’ll still be fully available for advice via messenger or my number that’s on the page🫶🏻 An early Merry Christmas from myself Lou, and all our feather, fluffy and spiky friends🫶🏻⛄️
Woody
He’s made the night, he’s not interested in food still but is extremely interested in fluids which I’ll accept as it makes pain relief easier to administer too. I’ll be bringing out the suet which is meant to be an all time favourite for them so hopefully he can eat I’ll even treat him to one of the insect suet coconuts we have😂 Everyone else is doing well I’ve got to do cleans today and adding some extra bedding and things to make the birds warmer as the temp will be dropping a little more this week. Have a lovely Wednesday all🙂
Pigeons
I find wildlife absolutely outstanding the weather we’ve had recently including that threat to life storm and they survive. The trees all around me have been snapped and bent yet these little ones survived it all, these are “mine” 😂 I’m on the fence about tagging releases from now on just so if they become injured again they can come back here where they know me and the surroundings they’d still be 100% wild but have a number on their leg should they need me🥰 Their are 4 there but I tried to get videos from different angles and they’d click I was watching and fly up a little bit and I didn’t want to spook them as this is the first feed they’ve had since Saturday with me🙂
