🌸 Easter Fundraiser 🌸

Our Easter Fundraiser is here! Until the 1st of April, you will be able to donate as little as 50p to help raise much needed funds for North Clwyd Animal Rescue.

Our book sale is back - we are in need of children's books if anyone has those. As well as our colouring competition for children. Ask a member of our team for details.

NCAR will be visiting this weekend to talk about how the fundraising helps as well as answer any queries you may have.

Hi, I'm Amigo! 🐹🐾

I am a male syrian hamster. I am about 4-5 months old, and I am looking for my furever home.

I am looking for a family who are experienced with Syrian Hamsters as I am very nervous and will need lots of patience. I am not suitable for children, so a family with experienced teenagers and adult home would be best.

I will need a large cage with a large wheel with plenty of things to climb, dig, and chew.

🐠🐹 Pet Pals 🐹🐠

Our Pet Pals workshops are back!

From today until the 14th of April, we will be holding our free Pet Pals workshops at 2pm daily.

Spaces are limited and must be booked in advance on our website:

There is some availability still on most appointments (today included).

Please remember to cancel 24 hours prior if you can not make it to make space for others.

There is also a colouring competition running in store over the Easter holidays for 50p a sheet. All proceeds go to our NCAR fundraiser.

🐠 Fish of The Week 🐠

This weeks fih of the week is the stunning Golden Barbs.

😀These colourful little dudes are a great addition to community tanks. They are very peaceful and undeserving of the barb name reputation.

🌏 Originally from China, Laos, Vietnam, and Thailand. Often known as Chinese barb and have green wild relatives.

🐠 Males are slimmer and more colourful. The females are dull yellow with round bellies.

🐟 Need to be kept in shoals of 6 or more. They can be housed with other similar sized fish, including tetras, danios, and other small barbs.

🍽️ Love flake food, pellets, and the odd bit of bloodworm.

🪴 They look amazing against dark green plants like Anubias. They like open space for swimming but love driftwood & places for hiding spaces.

🐶💛 Today is Dogs in Yellow Day 💛🐶

Yellow dogs are dogs that need space and can be identified by wearing something yellow, such as a harness, coat, lead, or even the handler wearing Yellow, too.

A dog and their owners may be wearing yellow for many different reasons, including if the dog is:

💛 A rescue dog - adjusting to new life 🐾
💛 Anxious or fearful of other dogs/people/traffic 🐶
💛 Reactive to other dogs/people🐾
💛 Elderly, Arthritic or ill 🐶
💛 Recovering from surgery🐾
💛 In training 🐶
💛 A female in season🐾
💛An assistant dog that is in work or training 🦮

If you do see a yellow dog, please do not approach them and give them plenty of space. Not only will this help the dog, but often, the handler, too. 😁🐾💛

💚 Colleagues Pets Choos-day Favourites 💚

Some of our colleagues' pets have their favourites... every Tuesday, we will bring you reccomended products; tried, tested & loved by our pets 💚

Aimee's Rabbit Blue loves the willow chew toys. These are great for his teeth, are great boredom busters, and enjoyed by rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, degus, rats, and gerbils. We have willow balls and sticks.

These two lovely girls are still looking for their furever family who will spoil them 🥰

Hey, We are Cookie & Shortbread and we are looking for our furever home. Cookie is the one with a lighter face, Shortbread has a darker face.

We are spayed females, and we are roughly 3 years old, and we have always been together. We are looking for a home together where we will have plenty of space and things to do. We need lots of space to exercise, binky, hop, and dig. Ideally, we need a child free home.

We have been put on a bit of a diet since we came to the store, as we are a little overweight for our breed, Shortbread, in particular, needs to lose a little more weight. Our new home will need to continue this and also ensure we keep to a healthy weight.

🐠 Fish of the Week 🐠

This week's Fish of the Week is the wonderful Pearl Gourami.

😀 also known as lace gourami. They are a type of labyrinth fish - meaning that they can gulp air at the surface and hold it in its labyrinth chamber of the first gill arch - a lung-like organ that enables it to breathe air in addition to using gills.

🌟 They are a labyrinth fish like the others; They can make noise like a growling or croaking sound. Usually heard during breeding or males fighting.

🌏 Originally from Thailand, Malaysia, and the Indonesian islands of Sumatra and Borneo.

🐠 They can be housed within a community tank but avoid housing with aggressive species. Similar sized and temperament fish are ideal tankmates, they can be housed with small shoaling fish like tetras.

🙊 Can be kept in groups, ideally 1 male to several females. Males can become aggressive if breeding to the same species and other gourami's.

🍽 flake, pellets, and occasional bloodworm. They will also be happy to eat vegetables such as romaine lettuce and peas.

🪴 They are from heavy vegetation areas in rivers, so ideally, they need a planted tank with areas to hide in.

😺 Cat Microchipping 😺

In England, from the 10th June 2024, it will become compulsory to microchip all kittens from the age of 20 weeks. However, there is no minimum age.

Although in Wales, it won't be compulsory, it is recommended that kittens and cats are microchipped.

Microchipped lost pets are able to be reunited to their owners quicker. Collars and tags can easily be lost.

All details can be regularly checked and updated by the owner to make sure it remains effective.

Book your kitten or cat in with your vet for microchipping.

This International Women’s Day we’re celebrating the inspirational female colleagues who are making a huge contribution to Pets at Home across the UK – like Carol who has worked with us since our first store opened in Chester 33 years ago.

When Carol arrived at our Chester store to help with the grand opening in 1991, she never imagined she’d spend her whole career there. Now, despite being past retirement age, she says that she enjoys her job so much that she has no plans to stop anytime soon.

Carol said: “Pets at Home has been such a big part of my life for so long, I’d miss all the team and customers if I retired. I love that every day is different, spending time with customers and really getting to know them – and having a cuddle with their puppies too of course. I’ve had some customers who have been coming in for as long as I’ve been working here; it’s such a lovely community feel. When I first started at Pets at Home, I remember coming in and the store was an empty shell and now you’re spoilt for choice – there’s so much to choose from.”

Carol’s colleagues say they all love her, with Assistant Manager Callie saying: “Everyone knows Carol! We get a lot of people asking about her as they remember her from being children. She’s like everyone’s grandma.”

💚 Adoption Appeal 💚

We can't understand why these beautiful boys are still looking for their furever family.

Hi, We are Bill & Murray, we are 8 month old male guinea pigs and we are looking for our furever home together.

We are looking for a large home with lots of things to chew & gnaw on as well as hides and tunnels. We will need to be indoors for as we are not used to the cold weather. However, we would like to explore outside when spring comes.

We will need grooming daily as we have long hair, so our new family will need to be happy to do this to prevent matting.

If you think you can give us a furever home and be our new family please come down to store to say hello and meet us. One of the team members will also be able to answer any questions you may have.

🐠 Fish of the Week 🐠

This week's Fish of the week is the stunning Kribensis.

🌍 These gorgeous cichlids are native to Cameroon and Nigeria

🚦Relatively peaceful but will become territorial when they form breeding pairs.

🐟 Best kept with widows, phantoms, serpae tetras, tiger barbs, and other species, which are not too timid.

😀 Males are larger with elongated dorsal and a**l fins

🥗 Like to munch good quality flake foods and micropellets

🌿 They love coco caves and plants to call home, making themselves a little den in them. Coco caves are a must.

❤️ Rehomed ❤️

Hello,

I am Porthos. I'm a 5-6 month old, male Syrian Hamster, and I'm looking for my furever family.

I'm friendly and would love to make friends with my new family, I will happily come and say hello and take treats as well as being handled.

I will need a large cage, ideally at least 100cm long, with a large 20cm wheel and plenty of things to hide in, climb, dig, and burrow into. I will need things to chew on to keep my teeth healthy and places to hide food and treats.

If you think you have space for me in your family, please pop in to the store and say hello. One of the team members will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

🐠 Fish of the Week 🐠

Every friday, we will be bringing you our Fish of The Week.

This weeks fish of the week is the very cool Cardinal Tetra

😀 These are the rockstars of the fish system, a must-have for all community tanks.

🐠 Females are larger and more rounded.

😎 Can be told apart from neon tetras as they're snazzier dressers, with the bright red line running the whole length of the fish & the blue is much brighter.

🐟 Need to be kept in shoals of 6 or more.

🌍 Originate from Brazil, Colombia, and Venezuela.

🍽️ Happily munch on flake foods and frozen foods.

🪴 They like to frolic in plants and look amazing swimming through tall grasses

We are running very low on wet dog food (tins, pouches, trays)
We are very thankful to anyone that donates anything to our animals, but can we ask that if you would like to DONATE that we could kindly ask for wet dog meat. Any brand is fine, we try to keep our dogs on grain free where possible so brands like Harringtons, Butches, Nature Diet etc are preferable but any would be amazing right now.

Everyone at Vets4Pets Guildford loved seeing little Jenni who's been treated for a damaged eyelid and has had to wear a buster collar.

One-year-old Jenni – a Chihuahua/Pekingese cross – was such a good girl that she was named Patient of the Month by the practice.

Her owner, Angela, said: "The team at Vets for Pets Guildford have been marvellous. They have been so lovely and gentle with Jenni, who's been going in weekly for checks and to make sure there's no infection. Jenni took to wearing the buster collar in her stride and she's absolutely fine now."

Jenni was accidentally caught in the eye during playtime with Burnese Mountain Dog Mary who belongs to Angela's sister Sam.

This good little girl is 12-week-old cocker spaniel Morag who's settling in really well at her new home and loves playing with her Snuffle Mat Dog Toy from our Glasgow Forge store.

Her owner Catherine says Morag "will do anything for chicken" and that the mat, which is designed to encourage natural foraging behaviours by concealing treats, offers "great enrichment and helps me to settle!" Morag posts on Instagram as .

Two-year-old mini lop rabbit Newt is "bouncing around again" after having surgery to remove part of his liver at Companion Care Vets Winnersh.

His owner Abi, who's a vet at the practice, noticed he was poorly when he was off his food. Blood tests showed his liver enzymes were raised and an ultrasound revealed he had a damaged liver lobe after it had twisted on itself, a condition known as liver lobe torsion.

Abi and fellow vet Ben took about an hour to perform the delicate procedure on Newt. Abi, who has six rabbits, said: "Newt's doing pretty well now and bouncing around again."

Four-year-old Sebastian the Jack Russell is back to his usual boisterous self after being treated at Vets4Pets Abingdon for a condition that was causing the knee caps on his back legs to dislocate when he walked.

The condition, known as medial patellar luxation, would cause him to hop or skip when exercising. It's quite common in terriers and small dog breeds, but Sebastian's case was quite severe and he was given surgery by orthopaedic surgeon Joe to deepen the groove his patella runs in on his right hind leg, and also to move and reattach his patellar tendon.

Sebastian is owned by practice vet Hannah who said: "After the operation he just wanted to get back to normal straight away but he couldn't ... and that's where we struggled. He wanted to be out and about, charging around and playing with his toys but he needed to rest." Hannah had to give him medication for six weeks to give his knees time to heal. She said: "He's absolutely fine now – he's fully recovered and running around like a lunatic again!"

Here’s beautiful 13-week-old Dalmatian Mabel getting a treat from inside the Kong puppy chew treat toy her owner Paisley bought from our Peterborough store.

The rubber toys are great to chew and play with – and can be filled with treats to extend play time. Paisley said: “Mabel is full of life, very cheeky and loves playing with (tormenting) her big brother Morrissey who is also a Dalmatian. She has a personality to die for and we can’t wait to see what a wonderful dog she grows into.” Mabel's Instagram account is .

When 11-year-old lurcher Jess was brought into Vets for Pets Leeds Birstall 24/7 Small Animal Hospital on Christmas Eve feeling very poorly with pyometra – a life-threatening uterus infection – the team knew they had to act fast; so vet Emily and nurses JD and Hannah headed straight in to perform emergency surgery on her in the early hours of Christmas morning.

The operation went so well that by lunchtime nurse Krishna was able to call her owner Beth to say she was well enough to come home to recuperate – and Beth made the hour-long drive from her home in Keighley so she could bring Jess home before the family sat down for their Christmas dinner. Beth said: "It was a stressful start to Christmas, as we were worried about Jess because of her age and because she's never had anything wrong with her before. We're so grateful for everything – it was so nice of them to come in on Christmas Day to operate on her, to look after her so well and to get her home on top form. The vets were fantastic from start to finish. Jess is recovering nicely – you can see the happiness is back in her!"

Krishna said: "Our night team always do an amazing job, and performing serious surgery like that at that time of night and on Christmas Day of all days is just brilliant. Jess did amazingly well to bounce back so quickly, and it was amazing being able to call her owners to say that she could come home to spend Christmas with them. It's the sort of call we all love to make, but doing it on Christmas Day was extra nice."

Six-foot-long boa constrictor Astrix was the centre of attention when he called in for a routine "top to tail" health check at Vets4Pets Penzance.

Astrix, who's four, is part of a menagerie of six snakes, bearded dragons and six dogs belonging to veterinary nurse Lowenna, who works at the practice, and her partner Mark. The team looked at Astrix's eyes and mouth and checked his breathing to rule out any respiratory infections and also checked his scales.

Lowenna said: "He got a clean bill of health, he was absolutely fine and everyone had a turn holding him. Asterix is quite reserved, a little bit shy usually. He did really well when he came in as everyone wanted to touch him and he was like 'okay I quite like the attention.' Astrix has got a lovely big set-up at home. He's quite a big boy, weighing in at nearly 10 kilos, so the vivarium is more than seven foot long. We have a reptile room and he has the run of it. He has a large bucket of water too if he ever wants to submerge himself."

This brave girl is collie-cross Sherpa, who the team at Vets for Pets Livingston say was "impeccably calm" when she was rushed in for emergency injury after hurting her eye in a freak accident.

Sherpa's owner Caroline was taking Sherpa for a walk when Sherpa caught her eye on a stick as she went exploring a bush. She was quickly admitted into surgery where she received X-rays and, after a two-hour procedure by practice owner Dr Adam, aided by nurse Erin, the stick was removed. Adam said: "Sherpa was amazingly tolerant following an extremely random occurrence. It was astonishing." Sherpa didn't lose her sight and is now making a great recovery.

Caroline said: “We were suddenly thrown into the worst living nightmare, it was absolutely horrifying. It’s truly a miracle what Adam and the team achieved from the moment they answered our call for help. They gave us hope."
