Strange request has anyone a small rowing boat / dinghy and trailer they could donate to the rescue so the staff and pets can have access to the rescue & vets when we flood (let's face it, it will no doubt happen again) so just trying to be prepared. There are some on Ebay & Etsy but we don't have spare funds (not inflatables because of pet claws)

NEW LEGISLATION
The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons has introduced new legislation restricting how vets prescribe flea and worm treatments. To receive flea and worm treatments your pet must have a physical examination after which you will be able to order a NAMED flea and worm products, of a specific SIZE and number, for up to 12 months.
If you want a different product your pet will need to be EXAMINED again.
The physical examination can be done when your pet has its BOOSTER or at the 6-month health check as per our practice policy.

In the pipeline
We have now created a direct payment link to Pet Rescue Welfare Association if you wish to donate, as you know the campsite provides support to the rescue centre throughout the season, but funds are needed all year. We are very grateful for your support by bookings on site and now a direct donation in the name of a loved one or in place of gifts for Birthdays, Anniversary, Easter, or Christmas from a penny to a pound or whatever you can spare.
Scan the QR code with your phone from your computer or tablet and click open in the browser to donate or use the link

The repairs to kennels and pathways has been started so Sunday weather permitting the dogs will be able to walk up to the exercise fields and have a good run even though a lot of it’s still under water. 2.30 Our staff have come over fields and fences, trapped through muddy water to reach the kennels. The flood water is draining away but has left thick mud in all the areas it reached. It’s washed away our pathways leaving large holes of muddy water. No the access road is still flooded so don’t try to navigate it all please or someone could get hurt. We will post an invitation for help as soon as it’s safe to access the rescue but thanks for all the offers. We still have no electricity so our phones are NOT working and we are all busy so signing off for now.

Done last kennel check, not going outside again as I am totally knackered and it a bit treacherous underfoot in the dark x

Answer to your questions 1 -- 6
The night before any procedure/ operation
1. Give your pet their food normally and then DO NOT give ANY food to your pet after 8pm. (This includes treats).
2. Water may be left down overnight, but should be removed first thing in the morning.
3. Make sure your pet has had a wee & pooh (& we don't mean Winne) before taking him to your vet for an operation (accidents on the table can introduce bacteria to the wound site)
4. Ask for a post-operation care sheet & follow the instructions (rest, toilet walks on a lead, no sand, no going in the water, no jumping around.) They think they can you know better!
4A. Where should my dog sleep after being neutered?
Your pet needs to be kept in an indoor crate/ kennel for most of the day and night for the next 10 days. The time of highest risk for the sutures breaking down is 3-5 days after surgery and that cost more money
6. Keep your post-operation appointments with your vet as DR google doesn't know everything.

Can you claim pet insurance for neutering?
Pet insurance does not cover the cost of preventative treatment such as vaccinations, worming, and neutering as this is considered to be an expense that is inclusive of owning a pet. Pet insurance is designed to cover the cost of unexpected veterinary bills due to illness and injury.

Unfortunately, the price of dog vaccines has risen along with other veterinary supplies although we try to keep prices as low as possible it is inevitable pet care is going to cost more.
It is important that all vaccine boosters are up to date as leaving or missing a vaccine can & will leave your pet at the mercy of illness some can be fatal and the cost is then higher than finances.
At Pet Rescue, we don't have a credit account but we do have a savings plan that can help with the cost. (Please ask to speak to Me if you are registered with our practice & struggling)
We are still actively seeking to recruit an additional 2 vets that will enable us to open our list to new clients, so fingers crossed we find vets soon. Kind regards Marj at Pet Rescue Community Vets. Dyserth. North Wales LL18 6BP

Gardening

Daffodils, tulips, bluebells and crocuses all bring a welcome splash of spring colour to a garden, but they can be poisonous to dogs. Find out more about the dangers of spring flowers and other garden plants at thekennelclub.org.uk/poisonousplants.

The Good & the Bad
What happens if a dog eats tuna?
While small quantities of tuna fish will not likely cause much harm, serious issues like mercury poisoning can result if your dog eats tuna in large amounts. Signs of mercury poisoning include diarrhea and tremors.

Is pilchard fish good for dogs?
Pilchards are a great product to add into the diet of pets with skin or joint issues as they are naturally high in essential fatty acids. We suggest feeding fish 2-3 times per week as part of a balanced raw diet (including mixes, green tripe,

It is important your pet is vaccinated and has a booster vaccine every year. Due to national vet shortages & to keep our record up to date if we have not seen your pet for over 2 years we will assume you no longer require to be on our client list. It is also important to inform us of any changes to your contact details etc or if you no longer have your pet. Thank you for your continued support through the very difficult time we all find ourselves living with

Care at affordable prices

Office open Monday To Friday 8.30 to 4.30 tel 01745-571061 Out of hours emergency Chectergates 01244 853823 About the community vets clinic and later the surgical unit was a goal reached over 10 years ago. When I started the Rescue and Charity over 20 years ago I was paying huge vet bills and realized I needed to find a vet to help me start a small clinic to take care of the rescued pets in our care. Realy the rest is history when people adopted our pets they asked could they continue to use the practice and we went from half a day a week to a full day then 2 days and today we are open 7 days a week. It is a non-means-tested service open to all pet owners so you will be welcome to join us.
