๐ Fireworks can be exciting for us, but for our furry friends, the bright lights and loud noises can be overwhelming and even scary. Dogs often hear these sounds much more intensely than we do, which can lead to stress and anxiety. ๐ถ๐ฅ
Here are a few tips to help keep your dog calm during fireworks season:
๐พ Create a safe, cozy space where they can retreat if they feel scared.
๐ถ Try calming music or white noise to drown out the fireworks.
๐งธ Provide comforting toys or treats to keep them engaged.
๐ Consider a snug-fitting anxiety wrap or vest to help them feel secure.
๐ Stay close if possible โ your presence can be incredibly reassuring!
If your pup struggles during fireworks, remember youโre not alone, and a little extra care can make a big difference. ๐

It's grass seed season!
โ ๏ธIt's grass seed season โ ๏ธ
And this year, they are more visible as many commons around the country are being left to grow in a rewilding effort. This is why, as a dog owner, you need to be particularly careful when taking your dog for a walk! ๐ถ
These pointed grasses hide in long grass patches all around our parks. Their seeds are arrow-shaped and can enter a dogโs skin very easily! Once itโs in, they can travel through your petโs tissues, causing infections and serious other health issues. Grass seeds can also enter your dogโs nose and get lodged in their throat or enter their lungs, which can prove fatal if not dealt with in time.
Thatโs why itโs important to check for grass seeds after your dogโs daily walk and be aware of signs of discomfort such as:
- Sneezing
- Shaking their head a lot
- Gnawing at their paw
- Scratching their ear
- Squinting one eye
If you spot any of the signs above, donโt delay bring your pet to our surgery immediately! Grass seed removal is a painless, stress-free procedure taking place under anaesthetic by one our highly trained healthcare professionals.
If you suspect your pet may have a grass seed injury, call us as soon as you can on 020 8948 3737 or bring them straight in if they are in distress.
