That’s a wrap for 2024!!
I’d like to thank you all for your continued support this year, it means the world to me to care for your fabulous doggos 😍 Also a big thank you to everyone who sent cards & gifts, you guys really spoil me and I shall look forward to opening them in the morning 😃
I know a few of you are missing loved ones this year so have the best possible Christmas you can, and remember it’s ok to be sad.
Take a minute to remember those no longer with us, light a candle, say a prayer, raise a glass, whatever’s your thing, and try to have a bit of fun with your favourite companions, two legged and four!
I’ll look forward to catching up with you all in the New Year!
Lots of love

Hi Everyone!
I know I’ve been very quiet on here this year so thought I’d pop a little update on.
I’m having some time off from today (10th) until 17th July so any messages that come through will be responded to from 18th July when I’m back at work.
I’m fully booked for the rest of July and most of August now. I’ve only got a 3 or 4 appointments left for the end of August and a few people waiting for cancellations, so please factor this in when making bookings as it will likely be early September before I can get you in.
For this reason I cannot take on any new clients. Thank you for all of your recommendations, it means the world, but my books are now closed.
See you all soon!

Wishing you all the best Christmas possible and I’ll see you in 2024!!

💜 Stella 💜
Another “think outside the box” groom for little Cairn Stella.
The poor girl had an injury to her lip as a youngster and has been reactive for having her face trimmed ever since. It’s completely understandable, she associates metal objects near her face with pain. As her face was really overgrown that was the priority for her appointment. I’d have been happy just to clear the hair from her eyes if that was all she could manage ❤️
Stella is very food motivated and a clever girl. She was initially reactive to scissors, if she could see them coming, so I started on her chin. A tiny snip, praise, high value treat. Snip, praise, treat, repeat. Stella started to relax a little and I was able to find her pretty eyes 😍
Once her face was trimmed I sent her off for a break so she could decompress. The rest of her groom was nice and relaxed. We’d got through the hardest part.
I’m really proud of little Stella, it may not be the neatest groom but she’s clean, comfortable and happy ❤️

❤️ Red ❤️
Red needed a ‘think outside the box’ approach to grooming. He copes really well with being groomed but has started having seizures on arrival at a salon. The same also happens when he visits the vet so there is something about those specific environments that is triggering his seizures.
After discussion with his Mum we decided to keep scents as low as possible. I didn’t use a table as this is sprayed with disinfectant after every visit so could smell similar to the vets/salon. I used a fragrance free shampoo, no colognes, and did his blow dry in the garden under the shade of the trees.
There was a lot of hair to come out but I didn’t get much trimming done as Red decided it was play time instead! 😂🤦🏼♀️ The down side of not using a table meant he could wander off when he got bored, but he was clean, de-fluffed and most importantly, no sign of any seizures throughout.
Well done Red, you handsome big lad 😘

💙 Ned 💙
I really should have taken a photo of Ned before his handstrip as he looked like a little lion! Ned’s coat strips beautifully and he’s so smooth and sleek afterwards 😍
Well done Ned, you’re a smasher 😘

💜 Lottie 💜
Sweet and cheeky, Lottie’s a lovely girl 😍
Always full of kisses and loves a treat or two 😂

💔 We had to say goodbye to our sweet boy Harry yesterday 💔
Our hearts are thoroughly broken and HarryBells has lost a guiding light. Harry was such a sweet and gentle soul, he loved meeting people and was never happier than getting fusses when out on our walks.
Harry was my baby and taught me so much, mainly about patience 😂 and was the inspiration behind HarryBells, along with his big sister Bella.
It was very sudden and at 8 years old we thought we had so much more time ahead of us. Our hearts are thoroughly shattered!
Please bear with me while I grieve for my sweet boy. I’ll respond to messages as soon as I can.
Fly high sweet Harry, we were lucky to have loved you 💙

💙 Bobby 💙
I do love this boy! Always a lovely greeting and he’s a pleasure to groom 😍
Bobby is a bit bonkers, but oh so lovely with it. Luckily for me, he keeps his bonkersness under control until after his groom, then has a mad zoomie round the garden 😂
See you soon gorgeous 😘

💙 Cooper 💙
Cooper’s last two grooms have been really positive and we’ve made great progress.
He’s always had an aversion to scissors round his head, especially near his eyes. I’ve tried every trick in my book to get him comfortable with it and his pawrents are always working hard between grooms but it’s been a challenge for us all!
With plenty of patience and lots of treats we are getting there and Cooper will now sit on the table and permit some sc******ng 😊 There’s still lots of work to do but I can’t tell you how nice it is to see his gorgeous eyes at long last! 😍
Well done little man, I am so proud of you! 😘

Hi everyone!
Just posting an update…
I know a few of you have enquired if I’m working normally yet and the answer is yes!
I have been since the Easter break but forgot to let you all know 🤦🏼♀️
Thank you for all your well wishes, you’re so kind. All is well at home. The husband can safely be left unsupervised and I’m keen to get back to normal. So feel free to drop me a message if you need anything 😊
I treated Harry to a day out on Sunday. An Akita pack walk organised by Friends of Akitas Trust, he was on his best behaviour and got lots of fuss. I think that happy face shows how much he enjoyed himself but he was shattered when we got home from all the socialising! It was great to catch up with rescue friends and see some of the Akitas I’ve collected from the pound come back with their new families. Medicine for the soul 💜

Nikki @ HarryBells
In 2014 my husband and I decided to get a dog. Perhaps I should rephrase that. Back in 2014 my husband finally relented and gave me permission to get a dog! So our search for a dog began and little did we know how much our lives would change...
We knew we preferred big dogs and had agreed on nothing smaller than a Border Collie, but that was pretty much our only criteria when we set off to visit our local rescue centres.
Well, there she was, all ears and legs, watching everything with a mix of confusion and excitement. Whilst my husband went off to make friends with a 6 year old Malamute, I had to go and introduce myself to the leggy one who’d not yet grown into her ears! She was friendly but cautious so I crouched down and let her come and give me a sniff. All ok, hesitant at first then “ok you seem nice” and she relaxed a bit. Oooo, look at that lovely face! Those ears are massive! She’s got a big, fluffy, curly tail! 1 year old Akita. Hmmm, she’s going to be big (that pretty much sums up my knowledge of the breed at the time) but she’s young enough to train and hopefully we’ll taker her home and all live happily ever after! “Husband! Come and meet this dog, she’s beautiful!”.
Fast forward 6 months... Two leather sofas, countless cushions and a carpet later and we are wondering why the heck we are still sane! She put us through the mill with awful separation anxiety, many issues around other dogs and stubborn as hell with practically everything, but we absolutely adore her. Consider us Akita owned and devoted fans of the breed. Since then we have become volunteers for two Akita rescue groups, have a whole new group of friends and I’m now a qualified groomer. And it’s all Bella’s fault!
We adopted Harry in 2016 who came with a whole different bunch of issues, but we have honestly never been happier. These two big floofs are the inspiration behind HarryBells Dog Grooming.
