Bully Billows Fleece delivery today. These are fantastic for taking the chill off our dogs in cold weather, without the heaviness of a large coat.
All of my pooches have them and I highly recommend them.

For a gauge of size:
XXS fits a Dachshund
XXL fits a Belgian Malinois

If you would like a fitting session please let me know and I can put one on.

WHAT IS CANINE HOOPERS? AND WHY YOU AND YOUR DOG WILL LOVE IT!!!

Curious about an exciting new dog sport? Let us introduce you to Canine Hoopers!
This low-impact activity is like an agility course but designed for dogs of all ages, sizes, and abilities. In Hoopers, dogs weave through hoops, run around barrels, go through tunnels and follow gentle curves, allowing them to enjoy a structured path without jumping or sharp turns.
This makes it especially great for puppies, seniors, and dogs who may have joint issues or are new to dog sports.

How It Benefits Dogs:

Physical Exercise: It’s a great way for dogs to burn energy in a safe, low-impact way.

Mental Stimulation: Navigating the course strengthens their focus and problem-solving skills.

Confidence Building: Completing the course gives dogs a big confidence boost, helping anxious or shy dogs come out of their shell.

All-inclusive Fun: Unlike some high-intensity sports, Hoopers is designed for dogs of all breeds, ages, and abilities, so everyone can join in!

How It Benefits Pet Parents:

Strengthens Your Bond: Working together on the course builds trust and deepens the connection between you and your dog.

Great for All Skill Levels: Whether you’re new to dog sports or a seasoned pro, Hoopers is easy to learn, making it enjoyable for everyone.

Fun Community: It’s a fantastic way to meet other dog lovers and be part of a supportive community.

If you’re looking for a fun, safe, and stimulating activity that brings out the best in your dog, give Canine Hoopers a try!

So true.

So true.

Growling is GOOD. Growling is communication. I'd much rather have a dog that growls when they're upset then a dog who "bites out of nowhere" without any warnings.

When we punish dogs for growling, we aren't helping them feel better about whatever it is that is threatening them. Instead, we are teaching to stop letting us know when they feel unsafe.

The result? A dog who stops giving warning signs and "bites out of the blue."

Don't punish the growl. Learn more here: https://rescuedbytraining.com/2021/05/31/suppressionmodification/

The importance of rest days. 💤
Did you know that the average dog needs 12-14 hours of sleep a day, this can be more for puppies, elderly or large breeds.

Rest days are often overlooked by many pet parents, the belief of ‘a tired dog is a happy dog’ is hard wired into us.
A tired dog is simply that, tired or often exhausted, a content dog has a good balance of both exercise and rest.
Rest days can be beneficial in reducing stress in our dogs which leads to behaviour problems.
A stressful event causes a rise in adrenaline and cortisol, as these hormones build up the dog will have less tolerance for daily events because their systems are repeatedly flooded with hormones.
Regular rest days help to reset these hormones, aswell as giving the muscles and joints of the body some recovery time.
If dogs are taught to have regular rest days it also becomes less of a shock to them if we have a sick day ourselves.
Here’s my gang having a sick day today!

Considering a New Dog? Think About Breed-Specific Behaviors & Hormones!

Dogs come in all shapes, sizes, and personalities, but did you know certain breeds have traits that might not fit every home?

While all dogs are loving companions, their natural instincts and behaviors can vary widely based on their breed and hormones.

For example:
Herding breeds like Border Collies may be energetic and require lots of mental stimulation. Their drive to herd can be strong, especially in intact dogs (those not spayed/neutered), which may add extra challenges.

Guard dogs like Rottweilers or German Shepherds can be protective and territorial. If they haven’t been neutered, hormone levels can amplify these protective instincts, making them a little harder to manage in busy homes.

Hounds love to follow their noses, and their drive to track can be heightened by hormones, leading to roaming behaviors or more difficulty focusing.

Beyond breed-specific traits, hormones especially in young, unneutered dogs can heavily influence behavior like aggression, marking, and energy levels. It’s important to consider how spaying or neutering might affect your dog’s behavior and work with a vet to decide what’s best for your situation.

By considering both a dog’s breed specific behaviors and hormonal influences, you can create a happier, more harmonious home for both you and your pooch.

The recent publication of the study titled Comparison of the Efficacy and Welfare of Different Training Methods in Stopping Chasing Behavior in Dogs (Johnson and Wynne, 2024) has sparked significant debate across the animal welfare community. This study, which adds to the growing body of evidence on the adverse effects of shock collars (e-collars), highlights serious concerns regarding the welfare of dogs subjected to this training method. Please see our Statement relating to this via our News page at https://abtc.org.uk/about/news/
